I've never understood the way this word is used (not criticizing Dlew for using it, because this has become the norm). Sub-par means below par, and in the sport that has a par (golf) this is a good thing. Someone explain this to me.

the real answer is par is latin meaning equal or average. golf just stole it.

From oldtimerdax in the BSFS expansion thread, but thought it deserved to be documented here too:

The reasoning behind putting 4 towers on one side and 2 on the other was because they didn't want glare for TV (yeah like K-State being put on TV a lot back then). The reasoning for setting them back so far was to allow for expansion, like poles couldn't be moved. It just never made any sense at all, and it really doesn't now.
