Have a friend who is 6'6" and wants to get into a decent mountain bike. the only one he has found that would (probably) fit him is the Surly Karate Monkey Ops, but he would actually like to try it out before hand. Clam's, you have any suggestos on figuring out bike fit stuff as a tall person?

not local to MHK. the problem with demos is they typically don't have an XXL in stock. he'd also like to switch to a clipless set up, but he's also been having trouble finding a size 17 mtb shoe.

Competitive Cyclist appears to have a few options for mtb shoes in a 17.

it's tough, my cannondale is only an xl

I would def tell him to go 29 though and not eff with a 26

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

New warning: Don't get in a fight with someone who doesn't even need to bother to buy ink.

You might have him consider an XL depending on how his height is distributed, might be something they can adjust seat posts and stems to make a bike fit too.
Also with shoes, I was recently using a pair of surface shoes and switched to Scott's mountain shoe offering with the boa lace system, soooo much better.

that was in Moab, UT, but the riding where I live is about the same level of need for full suspension.

Excellent. I'm taking the roadie for a two hour spin a little later. Looking forward to some saddle time.

Weather is fantastic in Kentucky for afternoon riding. I love mid 50s and sunny. Twenty miles on the roadie this afternoon.
