What if you are at a place where your boss knows the world won't stop turning if you miss a couple days and encourages you to take a sick day?

That is his way of hinting that you are not at all useful

Wrong, it's his way of saying he isn't worried about me taking care of my crap if I don't come into the office.

If you work at a place that makes you want to use sick days just to escape your workplace, then you should probably find a new job. If you're too drunk/hungover to go to work, either gut it out or stop being so rough ridin' irresponsible. If you're actually sick, then stay home. Chances are that some of the people you work with have weak immune systems and catch stuff from other people easily. Don't be a dick.

Do a lot of you guys work in a phone booth or porno?  What are you doing to pass your germs all over your office?

Use a copier that's a job for staff, touch the coffee bring from home, turn a doorknob gloves when i come in and out, shake somebody's hand always just use a  to aknowledge someone  :dunno:

I've been coughing all day at work and my throat hurts. Pretty sure I'm taking a sick day tomorrow.

Yeah, well how do you handle this? :ohno:

Agree that taking a sick day is pretty irresponsible assuming you are responsible for stuff at work.  Agree that on balance the risk of infecting people by showing up vs. inconveniencing people by staying home is much more heavily weighted toward inconvenience.  Agree that calling in sick and then going fishing is not acceptable if you are a responsible adult.  Agree that sick days are more often used by parents.

People's actions/choices are a reflection upon them.  Hopefully this thread enlightens.

I went to work sick when I had a deadline to meet. So I am taking a sick day tomorrow even if I don't feel like I am on my death bed. Don't care if that makes me a bad person.

I am curious how that happened, especially in the days before social media

If companies would compensate you on not taking sick days, I'd be all about it. Why do ppl with kids get to take off a billion days without judgement. Give me a reason to not want to take advantage of my benefits.  :dunno: I think that's fair.

Do you guys get a benefit or something for not using a "sick day"? We don't have "sick days" to take, you just take off whenever for however long you want, for any reason.

the level of concern that some of you guys have about getting sick from a co-worker with a runny nose and low grade fever makes me think that your job is to make out w/ your co-workers for eight hours every day and then go home.

All it takes is touching the same thing someone else touched. The worst are those who go to work and proceed to vomit. That is a killable offense.
IIRC, you're contagious for three days after you're "OVER IT".  In other words, three days after the fever breaks.
Personally, I really hate those rough ridin' co-workers that come in sick; and then the rest of the ppl in the office would get sick from it.  When I first started working at my present place of employment, they had a $100 bonus for not missing any work days for a year.  Sometimes the office looks like a sick morgue; so I'm glad the company wised up and discontinued this practice.

when i worked in a hospital, they gave you a ton of sick days and expected you to use them for even minor illnesses.

Rule of thumb: sick days are for when you have to miss work but don't want to.

you iirc wrong. also jfc you dorks. guess what? there are sick people at movie theaters that saw the matinee when you are going to the 730pm. i mean, the amount of crap that you touch in a weekly basis that had sick people touch six hours or ten or whatever before you and still can actively get you sick (technically) if you then immediately start sucking on your fingers or whatever is absurd. why are you guys fixated with a sick person at work? never mind. i already know. it's because you want to take sick days and telling yourselves it's for the common good makes you feel better.

newsflash dinkledorks, you're kind of lazy and pathetic and lying to the people that are paying you money to do the job that they just hired you for is kind of sad. also, if you kick so much ass that you can be like "hey i'm taking a sick day to go to opening day at the kauff" then hey it's prob ok that you do it. if you have to say "hey i'm taking a sick day cause i'm sick" and then you go to opening day at the kauff...guess what? get a life and a new job you dingdong.
