finally getting away from that garbage ball hog from UCLA will help his game tremendously

Can't WAIT until Kobe is in MHK hanging with his new best buds :ksu:

I assume this deal is long dead. (Too bad.)
I watched literally zero NBA ball this year -- what the hey happened to Super Beas this year? His numbers are the suck. Did his starts go to Nikola Pekovic? Dude.

Good move for Beasley. Can be the top option in phoenix. He has improved drastically since his KSU Days. I think he really can become a star there

Michael Beasley: Hooked on Phoenix

I hope Phoenix signs Bill and Jake and Curt and Denis so we can see what that would have been like. they would probably win about a million championships.

My biggest dream for Mike is for him to play on Team USA in 2016. I always have. I don't know why, I guess I just think he should be representing our country, ya know?

That team should be the Frank Era 'cat all-stars, including Angel and Denis.
-
Frank era cat all stars would kick the crap out of the original dream team.
-
Dom would make MJ a non factor. Beasley would dominate Karl Malone and Charles Barkley. CK and JO have the edge over any of their bigs. Hilarious matchup would be Denis and Jake hounding their old timey ball handlers. Would be like Flip Pressey v. Will last year.
-
Frank era cat all stars would kick the crap out of the original dream team.
What a glorious game that would be to attend.
-
Jamar would have them in such foul trouble that Laetner (sp?) would be in the game 8 minutes in.
-
We'd crack jokes for years when DK got a late dunk on Jordan
-
Oh man, the gif of CK rough ridin' up Mullin's FT attempt by sitting down with perfect timing while the old ballz USA fans are doing their left-right chant will be amazing.

Dom would make MJ a non factor.
And then post youtube videos of it and comment the crap out of them in 3rd person.
-
clyde drexler would roll his eyes when we subbed in ojeleye and Vulture late in the game while up 26 points
-
ran into drexler and Sam Perkins in the Caesars poker room after kstate lost to Syracuse. the important take away here is that they both look v short compared to fanning
-
The highlight of the game would be Colon punching Malone in the back of the head.

Fellow goEMAWrs, I have to lament to a group who can also appreciate and feel this.
The Suns are allowing our beloved B-Easy to dry rot: http://espn.go.com/nba/player/_/id/3418/michael-beasley
I live and work in Milwaukee and went to a Bucks vs. Suns game a couple of weeks ago. I was SO excited to get to see Mike play again. He didn't even sniff the court during the game (I haven't checked to see if he was hurt, but he did warm up, etc.). Mike was disinterested, talked more to the Bucks players than his own teammates and even more to the staff at the BMO Harris Bradley Center than anyone else.
This is a travesty. We all know, we saw, we witnessed. Mike is one of the greatest offensive basketball talents of our age. Can his D use a little energy, sure. But, how could such an offensive-oriented league like the NBA allow Mike to just waste away? It's like taking the guitar away from Jimi Hendrix, a canvas or paintbrush away from Picasso, a baseball bat away from Hank Aaron.
:bawl:  Can we petition to get him traded to Jake's team in Europe?

MB is averaging 21.5 MPG (down from his career 27.1 average), and 9.7 PPG (down from his 14.5 career average) according to the Suns' website.
Don't know what's up there, but MB is better than that. :dunno:

Their coach just got fired. If you're interested they are playing on TNT right now. Me, I'm enjoying the Phoenix Coyotes beating the hell out of San Jose.
-
He's gotten more playing time since Gentry was fired. His playing time, while still at 20 min for the season, was plummeting for the past month - around 10 a game or so. He had a couple DNP's coach's decision actually.

what did barkley say about beas last night?
basically that beas is as good now as he's going to be in this league. he's had enough time to prove that he was worth the #2 pick and hasn't done it.

thx emawblast, saw fatima upset on twitter last night but missed what barkley said.
-
It's Michael Beasley's fault that NBA Michael Beasley sucks and no one else's. Head case scouting report was right.
-
Blame Frank for not Selfing Beaz.
-
Beas' shooting this season is horrible. Maybe teams know his tendencies now, but he's shooting .381 overall and .317 from three. That's why he played himself out of a starting role. With his defensive liabilities, if he's not scoring he doesn't get minutes.
-
:emawkid:

He went off tonight.

Beas came off the bench tonight. Had 6 rebounds, 5 steals, and 27 points. Hopefully, good things coming Beas' way.

Me too, Jakesie! He CAN absolutely do that consistently, IF Mike wants to. He is one of the smoothest (most effortless-looking) offensive players I've ever had the privilege to watch. IMHO, Mike's biggest challenges are between his ears and in his chest. If he can get his head and heart right, he's an All-Star. Thanks for the YouTube clip - it was beautiful.
-
Unfortunately, he followed it up with one of those performances that has cost him a staring role on three different NBA teams.

What a bust. It's sad that the K-State fanboys out there still support this clown. Reminds me of the Patriots fans who still support Aaron Hernandez.
Hey beems, have you checked out our football recruiting recently? :excited:
Congrats on the commitment. Kid looks like a stud. KU just signed a top 100 Texas kid this week too.

I will stop supporting him if I actually see any evidence that points to him sexually assaulting somebody. I'm not just going to throw the best player to ever play college basketball in the state of Kansas under the bus.

lol at your last sentence...he's better than Wilt Chamberlain?

Beasy would own Wilt. Wouldn't be fair.

Michael Beasley isn't even the best player to play at K-State. Mitch Richmond was a much better player, especially in the pros.

This is a good point. Beasley probably would have sucked if he had to play with those rules in place.

I've read several of those pages/articles. Most begin the same way, "If you only care about WINS, then yeah, maybe Russell is your guy. But if you care about all of the other statistics like PPG, RPG, Assists, etc. then Wilt the Stilt is your guy."
Well, I kind like it when my team wins. Call me old-fashioned! :dunno:

Bill played on a great team with great players. Philadelphia's team was known as "Wilt and his crew of flunkies." True story.

Wilt Chamberlain is dead. Advantage: Beasley.

Who cares about Wilt and Russell? They wouldn't even be able to play in the D-League today.

I am 100% dead serious in agreeing with this. When is the last time anyone watched old-timey basketball? LOL. Other old players who would be garbage - Pistol Pete. LMFAO! Could he even dribble with both hands?
-
I don't think Kansas has even fielded a basketball team over the past 15 years or so that Wilt would be able to walk onto. I mean, congratulations to Wilt Chamberlain for being a foot taller than everybody else on the floor. In 15 years when most women's college basketball teams have girls taller than 6'8", are we still going to be amazed with Brittany Griner?
-
Wilt could play for the 2013-2014 Kansas State Wildcats, though. He wouldn't start, but we would have a scholarship for him.

So basically, a tall guy starts playing this game, and the rule book has to be completely re-written? Sounds like the guy that wrote the original set of rules was a real asshat & the original rules aren't worthy of being used as toilet paper. Woof
-
Wilt would not make a current NBA roster. I actually doubt he would get a D League look.

Wilt would have teabagged Bustley, mumped his mom, and never called her back.

I think Mama Beas may have a little something to say about that . . . Your statement reads as though you're getting angry. I'm with you, man. If Wilt were here today, I would be 100% behind Weber giving him a scholarship.

I remember hearing stories about how Bob Boozer used to own Chamberlain. Here's a good one.
MANHATTAN, Kan. - The date was Feb. 3, 1958, when No. 4 Kansas State visited No. 2 Kansas and came home with a 79-75 double-overtime victory in Allen Fieldhouse.
Let's revisit that game by stepping back in time and entering Allen Fieldhouse on Feb. 3, 1958, when 17,000 were on hand for the meeting between 14-1 K-State and 12-2 Kansas.
Prior to the game, Abbott recalls, "Tex came into practice and literally told us that he had a dream on how we could beat KU. I was going to be at Wilt's (Chamberlain) belt buckle, while Bob (Boozer) and Jack (Parr) would be on each shoulder. Tex said if Wilt goes to the bathroom, it was going to be with this triangle around him."
Now, let's call a quick timeout, because the memories of these Wildcats in their mid-70s today isn't what it used to be, and even a box score of the game is tough to come by.
Boozer, 6-foot-8, called the defense a 1-3-1 with the 6-9 Parr in front of the 7-2 Chamberlain, while he played behind the KU giant.
"Tex created a brilliant defense that created a sandwich around him," said Parr.
Don Matuszak said of the defense. "Roy DeWitz was on Ron Loneski, Boozer was behind Chamberlain and Parr was in front of him, and Hayden and I zoned the other three guys."
Perhaps it was a defensive combination of all of the memories, but for sure, as Boozer said, "The defense worked to perfection."
And even that is somewhat questionable as Chamberlain did score 25 points, but that was six under his season average of 30.1 points per game.
Boozer scored 32 in the game, while Parr and Abbott added 15 and 13, respectively. While Chamberlain had 14 rebounds, DeWitz was high for the game with 15.
K-State opened a 41-28 lead at the half by, as Boozer said, "We were a big team, but we were a running team. If someone was open, Matuszak was going to put it on you."
But then as Matuszak recalls, "We ran at every opportunity in the first half, but then Tex wanted to slow it down in the second half and we almost slowed it down too much."
Reports say that K-State ran 2:33 off the clock at the end of regulation, but missed the shot to leave the game tied at 60-60.
Abbott didn't remember the stall, but did say, "We did have a motion offense where we really went looking to score."
The first OT was a defensive struggle at 5-5, which included a pivotal blocked shot by Parr on Chamberlain that was whistled as a jump ball.
In a day where they really did have jump balls, Parr proudly recalls, "I got the tip," and then Abbott finished the play.
"I turned and drove right at Wilt and flipped the shot off the backboard and it went in," Abbott said. "People tell me Tex was up shouting, 'No, no, no, no-no-no-no ... great shot!' Had it not gone in I might have never played again."
The shot moved the game into the second OT when K-State's free throw shooting took over with Parr making seven one-pointers in a row after Boozer had fouled out.
Asked if he ever wanted to tell coach Winter that he was willing to take Chamberlain straight up, Boozer was quick with a "... no, no, no, no ... don't even go there. I didn't have that cocky attitude. We were a team."
Plus, Boozer said, "He was 7-2 and I was 6-8. When he got you in the low post, you were dead. When he went to dunk, you made sure your hand was out of the way because he was going to break it. From the waist up, he had the body of a weight lifter."
Matuszak remembers dining in Lawrence after the game and returning for a pep rally in Ahearn Field House: "Students exceeded curfew that night!"
Already crowned Big 7 champions, K-State would lose the final two games of the season to Nebraska and to Kansas in Ahearn Field House, 61-44.
"We had already won the conference so I'm guessing it was a mental lapse and we just went into a funk waiting for the (NCAA) tournament to start," said Abbott. "I know Tex wasn't real happy."
K-State, 22-5 for the year, defeated Cincinnati and Oklahoma State in the NCAA Regionals, but then lost to Seattle and Temple in the Final Four staged in Louisville, Ky.
-
I think Bob Boozer is good enough to earn a scholarship for the 2013-14 Kansas State Wildcats, too.

So you agree, he'd be average at best if he was playing now.
-
Did Bob Whogivesashit score 100 points and take over 2000 women to Pound Town? No. Only a 'tater would put Bob and Wilt in the same category.
-
Also, Wilt and any other player from an older era would benefit from today's technology if they played now, so that butthurt 'tater argument doesn't fly.
-

Quote from Wilt before he died.
"Having a thousand different ladies is pretty cool, I've learned in my life. I've (also) found out that having one woman a thousand different times is more satisfying."

They both belong in the "players who used to be elite but couldn't make a D-League roster in 2013" category.
-
Wilt would be the best center in the NBA if he played today. There are teams doing back flips to try to get Greg Oden, a guy who hasn't played since 2009. You're a Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) if you think a 7'2 center who put up 100 points and 50 rebounds in a game wouldn't play today.
-
Interesting fact about Wilt Chamberlain:
Although talented, he was not properly prepared to be an NBA player after he left KU, so he went "Barnstorming" with the Globetrotters for a few years to unlearn his bad habits.

Maybe his body couldn't take the bumping and bruising of today's basketball. Maybe his frame couldn't support the muscle mass needed to go against players like Shaq, Howard and Bynum. Maybe he'd be a huge pussy who's afraid of contact with players his own size like Pau Gasol. :dunno:

Now wait just a second there, Mr. Smock Hawk. Bob Boozer was a great college player AND had a decent NBA career. I agree with the previous poster who said Boozer is scholarship worthy for the current 'Cats. No one ever said he slept with a lot of women. I thought this was the basketball board?

Bob's shooting ability transfers really well todays game. Bob's basketball skills were ahead of its time, Wilts body was ahead of its time. In the long run skill > body.

Yeah, but with "inside" covering a pretty big range.

Beas is a hugely talented player. I like him. He's made some bad choices and decisions. Here's hoping he rebounds from his release, learns from it, and goes on to much success. (Michael...ditch the weed. Find another more constructive outlet.)

It has to be really embarrassing to be exposed as the only NBA player that smokes weed.

Imo, pro athletes should be encouraged to smoke weed. I mean, can you think of a more effective yet less destructive outlet from their stress?

I talked to a former D1 player at Kona on Monday. He had some success in this day and the subject of playing while high came up. I said how can that possibly help you and he said the game slows down for you and you have a greater chance to be zoned in. I'm team #smokealldayifitsforgreaterplay

Agreed, football as well with all the concussion issues. I can not wait for soccer to rightfully be the #1 sport in the US of America.

Agreed. Imagine if the alcohol-drunkenness culture that pervades Lawrence was the only relaxation outlet if weed was unavailable. Elevator rapes, drunk driving, automobile accidents would be even more prevalent than they are now.

Lots of Heat smoke ATM (at the moment, you pervert), and where there's smoke, there's Beasley.

My biggest dream for Mike is for him to play on Team USA in 2016. I always have. I don't know why, I guess I just think he should be representing our country, ya know?

Beasley blows. He'll be serviceable one night and then pud the next 4 games.
The east is pretty front loaded with Chicago returning Rose, Indy, Brooklyn & the Knicks. Wade has clearly lost a step and this isn't the 2011 Heat. Bosh isn't a dependable Robin to LeBrons batman while Wade hobbles, those other teams should beat the Heat.

Virginia
The top five scorers return from a Virginia team that won 11 games in the ACC last season, which is why Tony Bennett's fifth season in Charlottesville will likely be his best. Senior guard Joe Harris and senior forward Akil Mitchell are a terrific one-two duo. They combined to average 29.4 points and 12.9 rebounds last season, which means they're basically the equivalent of one Michael Beasley at Kansas State, and I mean that as a compliment. Seriously, this is a good team, a borderline Top 25 team, and, with the way Bennett is recruiting, there's no reason to think the Cavaliers will slip much (or at all) even when Harris and Mitchell graduate.
Just some random love

Fueled by his fruit snacks and a burning desire to prove his maturity and commitment to the Heat, Beasley has been doggedly pushing himself in practice to learn a role he has never played in his career.
He scored 10 points in eight minutes in the second quarter and — in an ironic twist considering Beasley’s previous reputation — he appeared to be the only member of the Heat remotely interested in playing defense...

I don't think Mike is all that athletic (in comparo with other bballers). I do think he is supremely coordinated tho, and has one of the most developed offensive skill-sets in the world.

Yeah, it wasn't his athleticism that made him great imo. If you want to point at something other than skill, I'd go with his amazing hands.
-
Mike also had incredible balance. But it's all connected (hands, balance, skill, athleticism) so I pretty much agree with sys

I guess it's cool that you have you own definition but this is pretty much exactly what I was referring to.
-
Yeah Beasley and Walker were both superior athletes. Walker, well he was just off the charts. Beasley had tremendous ability, but my god the guy had great sense of the play and where to be. Near the rim it was all was his hand that reach the high point for a tip in. Great sense for flow and where he needed to be.

We knew Beasley can score, and his 19-point game–good enough for second on the team behind LeBron’s 33– was certainly impressive. What was more impressive, however, was Beasley’s dedication to the defensive end.
Beasley delivered one of the Heat’s best highlights of the early season in the second quarter when he raced down the court for an alley-oop from Dwyane Wade.

Our guy, OUR GUY!
Beasley, in his most significant role of the season, played 31 minutes with Dwayne Wade out due to a sore knee. The former EMAW stud went 9-of-16 shooting and a perfect 3-of-3 on 3-pointers. He also chipped in with four rebounds, one steal, and one assist (in your fat face JT!).
Too bad the Heat didn't win.

Miami Heat’s Michael Beasley has earned trust of coach Erik Spoelstra

“It feels good to be trusted by Spo on something other than offense,” Beasley said. “It’s definitely different than what I’m used to.”
Asked when the last time a coach trusted him on the basketball court, Beasley named Frank Martin, his coach at Kansas State.

http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/10082409/nba-witnessing-resurrection-michael-beasley-miami
Kevin Durant. Kevin Love. Anthony Davis. LaMarcus Aldridge. Blake Griffin. Brook Lopez. DeMarcus Cousins. Carmelo Anthony.
What do these eight players have in common? Each of them have played more than 200 minutes this season and average at least 20 points and seven rebounds on a per-36-minute basis. That represents a sample of the game's biggest star big men, and they're getting paid like it. The average salary of those franchise players? About $14 million. If we take out Cousins and Davis, who are still on their salary-depressed rookie scale contracts, that average price tag soars to $16.6 million.
Star players, star salaries.
Ah, but there's one more player who's putting up those types of numbers, averaging 23.1 points and 7.9 rebounds per 36 minutes.
That's Michael Beasley.
Guess how much the Miami Heat are paying him to play this season.
$1 million.
That's the bare minimum for a sixth-year player. While everyone turned a blind eye to Beasley this summer once he was waived by the Phoenix Suns, the capped-out, two-time defending champs signed him for almost nothing. So far he has posted a 22.0 player efficiency rating in 2013-14, the sixth-highest in the Eastern Conference. It appears the rich only got richer.
Welcome to the reconstruction of Michael Beasley.
Old role, new role model
The 24-year-old is entering his prime, five years removed from being selected No. 2 overall behind Derrick Rose in the 2008 draft. And in a bizarre twist of fate, it is Beasley, not Rose, who has a chance to contribute to a title run this season. The outrageous talent always has been there for Beasley, but the results? Not so much. In recent years, Beasley toiled away as an inefficient shot creator on the wing for Minnesota and Phoenix. Both teams couldn't wait to let him go; Phoenix even paid him millions to leave.
Even putting aside the off-court stuff, it's easy to see why those teams bailed. Over those three seasons outside of South Florida, Beasley fired up shots like a superstar, using a whopping 27.5 percent of his team's possessions while on the floor. But he didn't make them like a superstar. Of the 16 players who posted at least a 27 percent usage rate over that time, Beasley's true shooting percentage ranked dead last at 49.4 percent. And his spotty defense was equally as poisonous.
But the Heat spotted the problem: Beasley was miscast as a small forward. The Heat drafted him as a big man, groomed him as a big man and now they're rebuilding him as a big man. And that process takes time and a heavy dose of tough love. Everywhere from his contract to his minutes, the Heat made it clear to Beasley from the start that there would be no guarantees. Everything would be earned, not given.
To that end, Erik Spoelstra didn't give Beasley a single minute of in-game action over the Heat's first four games. But Beasley was working behind the scenes. The coaching staff used the practice time to refresh Beasley on the Heat's defensive principles and re-establish him as a scoring stretch 4 who'd also set picks and create for others without the ball.
"Five hundred screens a day," Spoelstra said while watching Beasley set screens over and over in the Heat's last practice. "We've been drilling ad nauseum on how we want him to play and to get other people the ball in other actions. He can make our team better, often times by screening much like LeBron [James] does. Those two guys can be arguably our two most talented screeners off the ball."
Over the last three seasons, Spoelstra already has sold LeBron James on embracing life as a big man, which meant consistently working out of the post and setting screens for other players. That life existed outside of his comfort zone until he moved to Miami. But Spoelstra won James over with championships. Nowadays Spoelstra continues to reap the benefits by giving Beasley an everyday role model.
"I'm just trying to imitate everything [James] does," Beasley said. "From the way he shoots his jump shot, to the way he's in here lifting weights, to the way he wears socks. He has a blueprint, and I'm just following him."
Beasley's transformation is startling. Last season in Phoenix, Beasley's third most frequent scoring play type put him as the ball handler in a pick-and-roll, according to Synergy tracking. Not the guy setting the screen, mind you, the guy running it. Synergy tells us that he tried to score as the pick-and-roll ball handler 120 times last season, or almost two times per game on average. But it was his least efficient action, spitting out a measly 0.708 points per play.
You know how many plays Beasley has finished as the pick-and-roll ball handler in Miami? Two. In 13 games.
"And those were by accident," Spoelstra said, laughing.
Beasley efficient?
Over the last few seasons, the ball was put in Beasley's hands and his job was to create off the dribble. That license yielded a host of pull-up long 2s and more headaches. Not so anymore. Watch a Heat game and you'll see Beasley setting multiple screens on any given trip down the floor. This helps to funnel Beasley into high-efficiency destinations either by rolling to the rim or flaring to the 3-point line. In Tuesday's game against the Detroit Pistons, Beasley shot 3-for-3 on corner 3-pointers and 6-for-10 inside the paint. That is the ideal.
Beasley's love affair with the midrange game is waning, too. For the season, just 29 percent of his shots come from midrange, according to NBA.com data, down from 40 percent last season. The Heat haven't specifically demanded Beasley to avoid the least profitable area on the floor, but they've emphasized the importance of getting to the money areas: at the rim, at the line and beyond the arc.
Like practically everyone else on the Heat roster, Beasley's having his most efficient season yet, shooting a LeBron-like 54.7 percent from the floor, 52.9 percent from downtown and 79.2 percent from the line. It's early, but Spoelstra has already trusted Beasley enough to have him anchor lineups without any of Miami's big three on the floor. And those Beasley lineups have been winning ones so far. Spoelstra has evidently believed in Beasley, but James' trust might be the biggest factor to his success.
"LeBron has a lot of confidence in me, and I don't really know where he gets it from," Beasley said. "Sometimes he has more confidence in me than I have for myself. That's good, just to have a group of people that genuinely believe that you can make it -- that you can make it on a good team. I'm just playing basketball the right way now."
Another diamond in the rough
Playing defense the right way will always be a concern with Beasley. If he's not dedicating himself on that end of the floor, Spoelstra has no problem leaving him on the bench, as he did at the beginning of the season.
But so far, the Heat haven't missed a step with him out there. According to NBA.com data, the Heat have held opponents to just 96.9 points per 100 possessions with Beasley on the floor, compared to 100.5 points per 100 possessions when he's riding the pine. For the most part, Beasley hasn't broken the hard-wired machine that is the Heat defense.
This is the power of a winning system and championship-tuned culture. By bringing in Beasley, the Heat took a gamble that no other team wanted to make. Facing a stiff luxury tax and limited flexibility, these free-agent reclamation projects are the Heat's draft picks, providing value for pennies on the dollar. It didn't work out with Ronny Turiaf, Mike Bibby, Eddy Curry or Erick Dampier in seasons past. But they struck gold with Chris Andersen last season after the Nuggets cut him using the amnesty provision. And so far, Beasley is on track to be another gem off the scrap heap.
Once again, one team's trash now appears to be the champs' treasure. But Beasley is different than those other free-agent pickups because Beasley's entering his prime, not on his way out of the NBA. This find has the potential to pay dividends over the long term. After Beasley's reconstruction seems to have given the Heat yet another weapon in their loaded arsenal, the league has to wonder: Is Greg Oden next?

Our guy B-easy the consummate professional and premier teammate is taking his injury in stride. Let's hope he can come back soon and help the Heat take down another NBA championship!
Beasley said the injury occurred while he was lifting weights. The toughest part has been resisting the urge to play but he is thinking bigger picture.
"I just got to resist," Beasley said. "Unless my leg is broken, I don't want to sit down. Unless I physically can't walk, I don't want to sit. … It's definitely one of those month-on-top-of-month type of things. I definitely don't' want to prolong it."
Although Beasley was disappointed with the injury possibly slowing his rhythm, he said he will take things slow. There is a strong change he misses Monday's game against the Utah Jazz.
"I'm not focused on anything individually, as long as the team is doing fine," Beasley said. "That's what is so special about our team. One guy steps out and another guy fills his role. There's no love lost. We've got a deep bench. We've got a full roster."
In the interim, Beasley will do mostly weight room and conditioning work. Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said Beasley is "making progress," but they will miss his contributions.

Also, mods. I propose a name change for this thread. Perhaps young Winters should do the renaming honors.

Not a big Heat fan, but I do like watching those late game situations where in the final minutes of a close game, the Heat lineup is: James, Wade, Bosh, Chalmers, and Beaz. Not Battier, or Anderson.

Big night for Mike against Houston. Threw down 24 points in 28 minutes. Heat was + 13 when he was on the floor. Slacers James - 15, Bosh -17 and, of course, Chamber -15 cost the Heat the game.
Come on, James, how about a little consistency.

Please do not jump to conclusions ... but the Sun Sentinel has learned that Michael Beasley has been working out at AmericanAirlines Arena.
Could the legend known as Pat Riley be conjuring up another plan? We know how famous his well crafted ideas have been in the past: Showtime Lakers; rough and tough Knicks; the Big Three in South Beach.
Is it possible he’s angling for another strong plan?
Doubtful, since Michael Beasley is the name involved.

Theres 2 things, one is that every year you play a sport, past a 1 year grace period following high school graduation reduces your eligibility for that year an all previous years. e.g - if you played a year of college ball, left the team and played ball in some other league for 3 years you'd only have 1 year left, likewise, if you did nothing for 2 years and played in another league the 3rd you'd be in the same boat. In addition to that, as soon as you enter college, you only have eligibility to play in the following 6 years, from that point. This is why Brandon Weeden was able to enroll and play football even though he was an old bastard and played semi-pro ball: he never enrolled in college, and only played a sport other than football.

Through 8 games Mike is averaging 40.2 points per 100 possessions. The 40 point barrier has only been broken 20 times** since the NBA began tracking that stat in 1973-74, and 9 of those were by Michael Jordan.
It's a very small sample size, but still rather incredible what he is doing in limited minutes for Houston.
**Steph is at 42.8 this year

The NBA doesn't play defense myth has been around for quite sometime, but it just isn't true.
-
If your basis for NBA defenses being terrible is that more shots go in, then you need to take a step back and appreciate how good NBA players are at shooting vs. college players.
-
There are also rules that limit help defense. Something the college game should adopt.

Pretty much. It basically prevents a defender from just standing in front of the rim without guarding a player.
-
Yeah pretty much just prevents teams from playing zone, but I think there are times when it opens things up for penetration, especially from the corner.

If I'm reading the last few posts correctly, the point is that defense in the NBA isn't bad, they just aren't allowed to play the team version of it. And we're supposed to believe the shooting is really good even though the stats don't indicate that and even though they can't really guard the rim.
So, your eyes are allowed to tell you they're great shooters, but they aren't allowed to tell you they aren't trying that hard on defense.
Any other questions about goE groupthink?

Beasley is averaging only 16.3 minutes per game this season, so his per-game numbers don’t stand out, but his per-36 minute numbers are eye-popping?—?19.6 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.1 steals, and 0.9 blocks on 52 percent shooting. Most importantly, they aren’t the type of empty statistics he was known for early in his career. The Bucks have a net rating of plus-3.3 when he is on the floor, and he’s become an integral part of a second unit that has been killing opposing teams.
-
it's been really fun watching Beasley on the Bucks this year. He seems to be happy in Milwaukee and his attitude seems a lot different(in a good way) since coming back from China. He's scoring points as always, but now also puts forth effort on defense & rebounding and seems like a good teammate. Me and the other Bucks bros up here in Wisconsin are happy to have him.
edit: Jason Kidd has done a good job of player development, but i think the ringer article is wrong to credit him with the improved Beasley. Beasley was playing at a similar level last year with Houston.
-
Logically, Beas starts now that the over-rated Parker skettied his knee again, right?
-
Answer is no. Some piece of chum named T. Marker is. No points, no rebounds, -10 contribution.

When Beas was taking classes for that one semester he would walk around campus at a tortoise pace, no backpack, no notebook, just a pencil. Dude was the coolest guy I've ever come across.

"To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Beasley Buckets. His greater than 10% usage of his brain is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of it will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also the walking bucket's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his tattoos. His personal philosophy draws heavily from me7o, for instance. Knicks fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these buckets, to realize that they're not just memes- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Michael Beasley truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humor in his existenial quote "I’m Your Favorite Player’s Favorite Player" which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Beasley zooms pass his defender and explodes for a slam on their television screens. What fools... how I pity them. ???? And yes by the way, I DO have a Michael Beasley tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the Ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand."

There's a lot our man than meets the eye
Knicks sixth man Michael Beasley takes a shot at some Q&A with Post columnist Steve Serby.
Q: Your kids are ages 8, 7, 6 and 5. A: It’s nothing for them to Google my name and read something that they’re not suppTosed to be reading, or something that I’m not proud of. I’m not who people think I am.
Q: In what way? A: In every way.
Q: Who do you think people think you are? A: I know what people think I am. People think I’m dumb. People think I party all the time. People think I’m ignorant … obnoxious.
Q: You think people today think that about you? A: Might be a little less than the past, but …
Q: Why do you think people thought that way? A: Because I’m flamboyant in who I am. I love who I am, and I’m boisterous about it.
Q: Have you always loved who you are? A: Always. I’ve never wanted to be anybody else and I never thought anybody else could be me more than me.
Q: Describe your on-court mentality. A: Chill … composed … never up, never down … always in killer mode … smart overall.
Q: What does killer mode on the court means? A: Ready to kill. Like a sniper’s always ready to take a shot. Always ready to take the shot, a shot … both sides of the floor. You gotta kind of have that hit man mentality when it comes to this game.
Q: What drives you? A: Life. My kids are taken care of. I don’t need for anything but food. My dogs are happy. The love for the game … tomorrow being better. I love the fact that tomorrow never comes. You can never wake up and say, “It’s tomorrow.” It’s always today.
Q: What do you hope Knicks fans say about you on the court? A: WB.
Q: WB? A: Walking bucket.
Q: Is that how you see yourself? A: I don’t think there’s a man on the earth that can stop me from scoring a basketball. I take that back … I know there’s not a man on earth that can stop me from scoring a basketball. As cocky as that sounds … so what?
Q: What drives you as a basketball player? A: Being great. I still think I could be one of the best ever. Just need someone to believe in me. Give me an opportunity.
Q: Of all the things that have happened to you in your life, what would you say was the loneliest, rock-bottom moment emotionally? A: I’m not sure. … I’ve had a lot.
Q: What enabled you to bounce back? A: Tomorrow never coming.
Q: Who is one NBA player you would love to test your skills against? A: Dennis Rodman.
Q: Why him? A: He just gave it up every night. He sacrificed his body. I mean, to average 15-plus rebounds for as long as he did? Dennis Rodman was what, 6-8, 6-9? He was a bad one.
Q: What did you think of him in a wedding gown? A: To each his own. I wear nail polish. Who am I to judge?
Q: Favorite tattoo? A: Favorite tattoo is my second one [right arm]. My cousin died May 21, 2005, with cancer. Long battle.
Q: What does that tattoo say? A: His name, Stevon.
Q: Was that devastating to you at that time? A: Yeah, but growing up the way we grew up, death was kind of a common thing, so at that point we were numb to it.
Q: What do you mean death was a common thing? A: A lot of people died, man. My uncle died on my first birthday. A lot of my friends died.
Q: How did that affect you as a kid? A: I tell people all the time, like when you’re a kid, whatever you’re going through as a kid, you don’t know it’s abnormal until you, I guess, grow up and meet other people that didn’t go through it. I didn’t know I was poor until I got rich. My mom always made sure we had the necessities — food, clothes, a roof over our head — growing up. You’re just not really concerned about a mansion and a Benz. Just living life, and whatever your mom puts in front of you, whatever your parents put in front of you, that’s what it is. And that’s what it was my whole life, on everything. I seen things from a very young age, so it just became normal by the time I got cognizant of my surroundings.
Q: How many tattoos do you have? A: I don’t know. I stopped counting in 2010 (laugh).
Q: How would you sum up your NBA career? A: A roller coaster. To say the least. Definitely a roller coaster … but who don’t like roller coaster rides (laugh)?
Q: Did you feel pressure as the second player drafted in 2008, by the Heat? A: I didn’t feel pressure until my fourth year in the NBA.
Q: Why the fourth year? A: I just wanted to win so bad. I got injured early. A lot of things just didn’t go my way.
Q: You went to seven high schools? Why did you bounce around so much? A: A couple of different reasons. Basketball mainly. I got kicked out of one or two.
Q: Describe the first time you saw the Garden. A: I played here in college [in 2007 with Kansas State]. We lost to Notre Dame. I only had 15 points.
Q: Describe Frank Martin, who was your coach at Kansas State. A: I love Frank. Always been honest. Always pushed me to be a better person, not just a better basketball player. Always been resourceful. Always there when you need him.
Q: Pat Riley, who was the Heat executive who drafted you. A: I don’t love him as much as Frank (laugh). But Pat is like one of my idols right now. … He’s just got it all figured out.
Q: Boyhood idol? A: I’ve always admired Vince Carter. There wasn’t nothing he couldn’t do — from long range, to mid-range to the post, fastbreak. … He literally could have played 1 through 4.
Q: Favorite PG Jaguars memory. A: OK, one day, me and Kevin (Durant) started fighting. We weren’t that serious. And instead of breaking it up, our coach, Stink, jumped in. So we started jumping him (laugh). He rolled over and threw me off the bed, I bounced and went right out the window. Broke the window, yeah (laugh). I still got the scars from it.
Q: Who are athletes in other sports you admire? A: Roger Federer, Serena [Williams], [Rory] McIlroy, Tiger [Woods], [Alex] Ovechkin, NaVorro Bowman. … I grew up with him. The whole Dallas Cowboys roster. I’m a diehard Cowboys fan. Oh, [mixed martial artist] Rose Namajunas. I love her. Her demeanor, like her grace, her character after she won. She stuck to her game plan, didn’t say anything extra, kept her composure, and controlled the whole [UFC] fight.
Q: Do you play golf? A: [I shoot in the] mid-70s, on a good day. On an off day, they’re rare, but they’re ugly. I barely use my driver. I can go out there with my 4[-iron], 5, my 6 and my putter.
Q: Other hobbies? A: I play pool, play dominoes, I play cards. I like to say I read, but I listen to more audio books than actual reading.
Q: Superstitions? A: I split poles on purpose. I just do it because everybody else says, “Hey man, don’t split the pole …” Shut up (laugh).
Q: What are your favorite New York City things? A: Street meat (laugh). I don’t eat ’em anymore, but once in a while. I love a good chicken over rice, hot dog with mustard, onion. ** Q: You’re talking about the vendors?** A: Yeah. All day long. All day long.
Q: Are you recognized? A: Sometimes. You know, I get this more than anything: “Hey man, you look like Michael. … He ain’t that tall, never mind.” My thing is like, OK, if you know who I am, then I’ll take your pictures, I’ll sign your autograph. If you don’t know, it’s not my job to tell people. My theory is, if you don’t know who I am, then I’m clearly not doing my job right.
Q: How do you feel about playing on the New York stage? A: At the end of the day, you play basketball. You miss a shot, you make a shot, you win the game, you lose the game, so what? There’s bigger things going on in the world.
Q: What’s going on in this world these days? A: A lotta bad things. … We need God. People need to show more empathy. People need to treat other people better. Nowadays, we treat people according to their class. That’s not right. We’re all human. No matter if I make a million dollars or I make two pennies, like I’m the same person I am. I like to talk to everybody. I like to have conversations with everybody, the smartest person, the dumbest person. I ask this question: Einstein’s a genius … He can tell you who every math problem or quantification is, whatever: Does he know everything there is to know about a goat? Does he know everything there is to know about an orca? The ocean? A genius to me is perspective. Like, you could be a genius in one field, but that doesn’t make me dumb ’cause I don’t know as much math as him. The world right now … I would say we’re lost, but I’m in it, so … ** Q: How do we find our way back?** A: Empathy, man, care for one another … help one another.
Q: What is your best single NBA moment? A: I haven’t had one yet.
Q: Who is Michael Beasley? A: Nobody. Nobody at all. But a father, a son, a brother … I would say friends but I don’t got a lot of those. … I’m just me, man.
Q: You’ve learned not to trust. Is that why you don’t have many friends? A: No. … I mean, have learned not to trust, but my whole life I’ve always done for other people. And it’s just time I start doing for myself. I think we have to get comfortable being alone.
Q: Did you make a New Year’s resolution? A: I think if you’re living right, you shouldn’t have a resolution. People who have resolutions are doing something that they don’t want to be doing, whether it’s gaining weight or … going to the strip club every night, I don’t know. I don’t do anything that I’m ashamed of. I don’t live any malicious way. My New Year’s resolution was just be me.
Q: Two dinner guests? A: I would need a monk there.
Q: Why is that? A: ’Cause I think I could make a monk laugh (laugh). … Nikola Tesla. Steal some ideas from him.
Q: Favorite actor? A: Will Smith.
Q: Favorite actress? A: Scarlett Johansson.
Q: Favorite singer? A: My favorite singer of all time, Lauryn Hill. My favorite rapper of all time, Jay-Z. Favorite rapper right now, Young Thug.
Q: Favorite meal? A: An old family recipe — macaroni and cheese, with baked beans and hot dogs, in one bowl, mixed up. Awesome.
Q: What would the Michael Beasley sitting here now tell the young Michael Beasley? A: I wouldn’t tell him nothing, honestly. Let him live his life (laugh). It got me here. I tell people all the time, like, just because somebody looks older doesn’t mean they’re supposed to act older. Everybody learns life at their own pace. Everybody has things in their past that they wish they hadn’t done or they wish nobody knew about. My life has been documented since I was 13, 14 years old.
Q: Regrets? A: None.

Also for his track record of not being all that good in the NBA.
Clearly better than the guy drafted ahead of him now though!

He did it to himself honestly. That's like minimum wage in NYC. :frown:

Beaz is set for 5 lifetimes , he's out there having a blast doing what he loves

There's a laundry list of "who the eff is that"s making $10-12m per year putting up 8 pts a game. Thankfully Beaz is a FA in 2018...would like to see him get paid.

I'd rather see stability for him. He's played for 5 teams already (not counting China). 1 year deals suck.

he's been great for 3 straight years now, he deserves a chance. funny that lebron thought he was immature but helps get jr, tristan, and iman a combined 40 million a year to score a combined 18ppg, 12rpg, 4apg on terrible efficiency. plus channing frye is getting 7.5m to score 5ppg and be a non-factor in the playoffs. could have had 25 beasleys instead
-
LeBron is a rat and doesn't deserve Beasley.
-
Pfttt
-
Beaz got 28 minutes last night while either Porzingis or Kanter sat. He didn't have a particularly good shooting night but for the first time I've watched they were running a lot of pick and roll through him rather than just isolation. Teammates flat missed him wide-open on a number of occasions.
Be interesting to see what happens in the off season. I think Mike probably likes New York, but I think he'll want more money and assurances of minutes.

Michael Beasley chooses Knicks over Kevin Durant reunion
DENVER — Thanks for the sentiment, Kevin Durant, but Michael Beasley seems like he would rather stick with the Knicks next season than bolt to the Warriors’ juggernaut.
Durant talked a lot about his DC buddy Beasley in his postgame press conference Tuesday night after the Knicks’ 123-112 loss at Golden State, lavishing plaudits on his skill level and agreeing with his friend’s controversial preseason assessment that he “matches up talent-wise” with LeBron James and Durant.
But KD saved his bombshell nugget for the San Jose Mercury News, saying how “amazing’’ it would be to play with Beasley next season on the Warriors, who won’t have cap space but will wield the $5.3 million taxpayer exception.
Beasley was flattered by his buddy’s remarks and acknowledged they have talked about being NBA teammates since they were kids. But Beasley said he would prefer to make New York his home.
Beasley, an impending free agent, told The Post he’s tired of moving and hopes his scoring prowess this season will earn him a long-term spot as a Knick. He also said it wouldn’t be appropriate to start fantasizing about playing with the Warriors next season.
“He’s a best friend. Why not?’’ Beasley said. “But right now I’m a New York Knick. So me placing myself on another team during the season is not fair to my guys. Let the summer be the summer.
“One thing I do think about it is me being tired of moving — having a long-time home,’’ Beasley added. “I don’t want to move anymore.’
When told Durant said Wednesday “he’s found a solid home in New York and hopefully he sticks there,” Beasley responded, “Me too.”
Nevertheless, Durant let his mind wander about hooking up with Beasley next season in Golden State: “It would be amazing,’’ Durant told the Bay Area newspaper. “Especially now, I mean, if we link up now at this age, we done so much, seen so much, being on this league as a player.
“It would have to be next year. I’ll be 30, he’ll be 30 too, so it’ll be like, man — to finally meet up as grown men. Imagine if we were on the same team, that’ll be crazy.”
Beasley, 29, was teammates with Durant twice in high school — at National Christian Academy in Maryland and Oak Hill Academy in Virginia. Beasley admitted that playing together has long been a topic of their conversations.
“All the time before we even thought we could make the NBA,’’ Beasley said. “Before we knew it was a possibility. That’s what best friends do. Talk about the future. Would it be amazing to play with him? One hundred percent. But like I said, I got to fight with my guys.”
Beasley signed a one-year deal for the $2.2 million veteran’s minimum. He has been on a scoring binge since Tim Hardaway Jr. was injured in November. Beasley’s scoring average is now at 12.6 in 19 minutes per game, and “The Walking Bucket’’ is shooting 52.5 percent.
During his 32-point explosion that beat Boston last month, the Garden fans chanted “M-V-P.’’ Certainly Beasley has taken a liking to the big stage after a journeyman’s career.
Durant said Beasley never “got a fair chance’’ before the Knicks. Durant was the No. 2 pick by the SuperSonics, who later became the Thunder, in 2007. Beasley was the No. 2 pick by the Heat in 2008.
On Wednesday, Beasley stepped in for Kristaps Porzingis as starting power forward in the loss, scoring 21 points, four rebounds and four assists and kept the Knicks close into the third quarter.
During training camp, Beasley received scorn for comparing his skill level to James and Durant in Bleacher Report.
“People criticize everything I say,’’ Beasley said. “Ever notice that? I know how good I am. I know how hard I work. It’s good for guys like KD to acknowledge it.”
Indeed, Durant said the comparison isn’t crazy.
“I love Beas,’’ Durant said after Tuesday’s game. “I love his family. I love what he’s doing. He never had a fair chance. I said in a comment earlier this year before the season where he said he was just as skilled as LeBron and myself, and I was feeling him on that.
“I was feeling him, because he is. He can score from anywhere. He can score on anybody. He can use both hands, but there’s something else that separates. I think that’s just the difference, the mental part of it. And he’s got the foundation of his game set, it’s just time to build on top of it.”
Beasley said he and Durant have borrowed from each other’s games but noted KD has been more of a work machine.
“In my lifetime, as hard as I work, I’ve put up a millions of shots,’’ Beasley said. “He’s definitely got up at least twice as many. His jump shot has always been a little better than mine.’’
After Hardaway’s injury, Knicks coach Jeff Hornacek started trusting Beasley as a mainstay of the rotation. Whether Beasley will be re-signed is unclear.
“He’s played his way into a nice deal hopefully, and he’s come in handy for this team throughout the whole season, so I’m proud of him,” Durant said.

One obstacle to finding a perfect basketball marriage: Beasley’s position and on-the-court style don’t generally lend themselves to playing alongside many of the stars he’s teamed up with. This season, he’s played fewer than 200 minutes with Porzingis (whom he usually subs in for).

Beasley would essentially play the Durant role with the Warriors second unit. I think it would be a great fit. He would be a legitimate All-Star most-improved player candidate.
Beasley would average 20/8 with the Warriors and would be especially fun in all the garbage time games GSW is sure to have. Guys would be not giving a crap and Beasley would be busy getting buckets.
-
he'd be underpaid and play 15 minutes a game, when he deserves to be overpaid and play 30+ starter minutes.
-

He will finally get that championship, though. It’s not all about money and playing time.
-
When he sucked, didn't he sit on the bench with a Lebron Heat team?
-
ya not sure why you would try to defame him like that but he for that season, he averaged 14.8 points per game and 6.4 rebounds per game
-
Not trying to crap on him, but he has had his struggles in the league. I just thought he had a ring already.
-
not trying to crap on him just referring to a time when he sucked that didn't actually exist
-
I was referring to the 2013 and 2014 seasons, where he actually got a ring, but didn't play much, but whatever.

No, I mean he was definitely an air head when I interviewed him, but I loved watching him play. I'm just sad he never lived up to his hype. I also thought he was on one of those Heat teams that had already won one. I was very happy for him this year.

Beside the point really. Beasley, Pullen and Henson should all have jersey's retired

I favor retiring Beasley jersey, but I most would like to see Martin in the pregame video. You see Hartman and other coaches.

Jake got us to the Elite Eight tho, and so close to a final 4. Rod didn't do much for us in the tourney that year.
-
McGruder did more for K-State than Pullen. He won us a conference for the first time in 30+ years.
The national media exposure for Pullen was worth millions to the program and university. McGruder was fine and may deserve to go up, but he wasn't as good and to compare him to Pullen is insane. The team won the conference and there is already a banner for that.
-
I was mainly trying to troll, but I do feel like McGruder was a very likeable player. He should be up there. Obviously Pullen, because of the scoring record.

pretty excited to watch michael beasley, the best player in the history of the big 8/12, play in LA
-
It is kind of great that LeBron demanded MB. We get to see the greatest player in the history of the Big 8/12 and the greatest player in history play together.
-
lebron didn't play in the big 8/12 but if he had, he wouldn't have been as good as beasley was when beasley played at kansas state in the big 12. he would have been way worse.
-
Obviously. You look at the Big 8/12 history and there is no dispute he is the best to ever play in the conference
-
i could see lebron putting up lonzo ball type stats (14pts 7reb 7ass). something boring, nothing ridiculous like mike's 26/12 on crazy efficiency.

:dubious: Kevin Durant thought he was the best 1-on-1 player he’s ever faced. Kevin Durant never spent a year over in China playing basketball, had 5 baby mamas, traded multiple times, and couldn’t make a starting line up in the league. Beas is what he is.
-
Bust: 600+ games played, 6 seasons averaging double figures, 1 averaging 19 points per game. Darko was a bust at #2, Beas has been a decent NBA Player
-
wacks, you should look at the nba drafts from your youth. read through the first round for a five year span.
-
Obvi. That’s why he just got back in the bubble league after Nets players said no thanks. Why is Beas underperforming NBA career the hill gE dies on? I like him, but some of you make a lot of excuses for a player that never lived up to the hype.

How does Beas compare with the #2 pick the past 20 years stats wise? I mean I’m not gonna calc the math, obvi, but how does he compare? My guess is very favorably.

Top 5 picks in the NBA are the most valued picks out of all pro sports. You can’t miss. Rose ended up injury prone and it mumped the bulls. Beas ended up being a bench warmer for the heat before Lebron showed up, and got shipped to every team after that. His best stop was with the Knicks when they had zero players and he put up numbers on a shitty team. Let’s all be grown ass men and admit he made 10 mill playing, but never played a meaningful minute in the league.

Getting into this debate isn’t in the spirit of this thread imo, but you couldn’t be more wrong about Michael’s early career.
1. He was not a bench warmer for the heat, but was moved to make room for Lebron James, Chris Bosh. He was moved because he was valued at the time.
2. He was an up and coming player on a crap Minnesota team thereafter ...
3. Which was enough to earn him a 3-year/$18 contract as a free agent with the Suns. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nba.com/amp/suns/suns-sign-michael-beasley
crap went bad in Phoenix. It was a bad time for Beasley personally, but the whole Suns operation at that time was garbage.

Beasley isn't perfect, but he's a lovely human and plays basketball with joy and blessed us with the most incredible individual season in college basketball history.
No reason to say anything negative about him or even compare him to anyone! He's supercoolbeas even if he's not an all star!

He’s a fair player, but wake me up when Brown, Wes, jake, etc. make it to town.

I think it’s cause he smokes dope, unlike Wes, Pullen, and Barry

Shut up, 8 man. SD, I’m just narrating his NBA career as what it was. I’m super happy he was a cat.

I somewhat agree with Wacky. When Mike left college I thought he was the next Tim Duncan. I thought he'd get multiple appearances in the All-Star game, and become a league superstar.
In that sense he was a bust. There were high expectations for him that went unfulfilled.
He still had a nice career, and will always be able to get buckets. But there is definitely a feeling of what could've been.
-
I don't think Wacky was out of line (except for that weird part about smoking weed). Most college stars never become pro stars. Marcus Morris has essentially the same career stats as Beas. Doesn't mean they mean any less to you, and you'll always have their time at your school to look upon fondly. For all the first-round picks KU has generated in the 21st century, outside of Embiid, have they produced another actual top-level NBA talent? Doesn't mean I can't appreciate a player like Frank Mason.
-
wacks called him "fertilized"

I don't care about the weed thing, but I think he was kind of a dumbass for getting in trouble with it twice, in his first year in the league and got like 3 chicks pregnant during that time span. It's gotta be hard to be totally focused on your job with all of that going on. Just a tough start from the get go.

So what? Maybe Beas just leans into life.

if they are there in October I will try
-
Starts 7/31, but he'll only be in the last 3 of the regular season, 8/9, 8/11 and 8/13. Thereafter, it's just a matter of how far our guy can carry that squad through the playoffs. The longest they could possibly go is 10/12.
You may have to deviate from your customary plans and use your disney knowledge to execute a plan of kidnapping an essential person there and sneaking into the arena in their place.

You on that good good? Beasley has had a significantly better career than Jay Williams did. You only have their rookie seasons to compare but Mike had the better rookie season.
-
Just imo and very unscientific. assumed Williams would have been pretty good.
-
Another thing to consider regarding NBA expectations is that he wasn't an ordinary top draft pick. He had one of the all time best college seasons. As a freshman!
-
Beasley's impact goes well beyond basketball stats. Shame on all of you.
-
An underrated talking point about Michael Beasley is that Frank got significantly more out of Mike than Pat Riley did. I think Mike was hurt by playing for old rigid Pat Riley instead of LA Pat.
-
Mike was always in a bit of trouble when he measured 6’7” instead of 6’9” at the combine

Yeah, I don't like that they sent him home. He should have no problem getting two negative tests. The bigger problem is that he can't practice until those two tests. So he has to have time to get fit after the negative tests.

Hope our guy can catch a break

This is more egregious than Bishop not winning the Heisman. At least from an objective perspective.

In both cases, it was the "career achievement" award (Williams & Hansbrough) vs. the best player of the year award.

If you're talking egregious outrage, I think you have to add Sproles losing the Heisman his junior year to some joke of a system QB from OU.

I have that exact same beanie. I believe it was a giveaway for the first X fans at a basketball game the year Beas played.
How many times has Beasley moved since he played here? How many teams in how many countries has he played on? Yet he still has a free beanie he got in college and still wears it.

so blessed that the most interesting and coolest player in the history of basketball chose to play for our favorite team. it's too bad the world didn't embrace him like we did, their loss.

What a night.
It's like the video with Barry but during the game, it was all high and low post moves. It's fantastic that it was Semi and Marcus Smart getting cooked. Frank probably called Mike after and thanked him.

I talked tonight to some scout types who go every year.
GA tickets for access to all games in a day at either venue are $40 each and absent something wild going on like a Zion debut or some recently injured superstar coming back to get reps, one can get tickets day of and grab a seat for their game of interest.
https://www.unlvtickets.com/eventInfo/spe/764/2021-nba-summer-league/
They say the summer league doesn’t have much effect on the rest of Vegas generally.
They predict our guy would try to get about 3 games in and get signed and be done, so they suggest going early. That kind of sucks because this thing starts on a Sunday.

We were there for MiegeCat’s bachelor party while summer league was happening, and saw some borderline NBA players (one tall Baylor dude I forget who) at the airport and basically all of The Ringer staff at Caesar’s. It was the year Zion played and 99% of Vegas was definitely unaware.

The guys I was talking to are not social butterflies or party’rs so wasn’t sure if they’d know what regular Vegas was to compare against.

Portland worked Melo back into the league and found him a role. Could be a good spot for Beasley to do the same. I really think he could be a valuable scorer for a second unit on some of these teams.

i meant the accidental leg rubbing in the video/gif lol

He should fill the Melo role seamlessly.

Cangrejeros De Santurce
32points 14 rebounds 6 assists 2 blocks
14/26 FG in 36 minutes.
Mike has so much to give offensively and I just can’t figure out why a team wouldn’t want to try to utilize his skills. SMH
Either way, I still enjoy some SuperCoolBeas

I feel conflicted reading that article. On the one hand, I feel like he tries to blame everybody but himself for the way things are. On the other hand, I genuinely feel bad for him and appreciate his willingness to talk about his feelings in a very personal manner.
-
He's also correct about his stats and I've never understood why nobody seems interested in giving him any minutes.

Is he the biggest bust K-State ever had or is that Freemaw?

-
At the pro level. We all thought he’d be great and now he’s back in China :frown: Just thought he’d be more than a bench guy in the league/International player.
-
while that's true, no reason to bring it up. he's the greatest wildcat athlete of all time and also had his mental battles throughout life.

damn that's quite the bag
-
The fact that he's still getting paid 7 figures to play basketball is pretty great. At least half of the 2008 Draft Lottery and 2/3 of the draft class overall are out of basketball.
-
I’m happy for him. One million is one million. Hopefully he can be happy.
-
Home boy played in over 600 games over 11 years in the NBA and he’s getting called a bust

I think our biggest bust relative to hype was Marques Hayden. to be fair, his hype was just based on a really sad fanbase clinging to any hope at all.

billy ray qb guy with the bad gut and hot girlfriend

Chris Boggas - not sure his journey from 5 Star, gem of his recruiting class to stealing a baseballs signed by Joe DiMaggio and Mickey Mantle from Snyder's house will ever be topped
