I like when the cast can't keep from laughing or ad-lib. Keenan did both of those after Sam's outburst. Still, I only chuckled a bit.

lots of too cool for schoolers in here. I've really enjoyed the last few seasons
I still enjoy the show the majority of the time. Obviously, the skits after Weekend Update are pretty hit or miss. As far as tonight goes, I haven't been a fan of Martin Short for like 20 yrs so I was pretty skeptical about him hosting tonight. All in all, the show was okay. Probably about what I expected. With the right host, the show is still capable of being great. With a bad host, this cast can't really hold it own right now, there are very few repeat characters that are really funny right now. (Stefon!)

Keenan Thompson is my least favorite. He plays the same black guy for every character and it only works for "What's up with that?". Which I actually really enjoy so probably keeps him from being my least favorite now that I think about it.

I think Colin is getting better. He'll never be a Seth Myers, but I think he'll compliment Cecily nicely for awhile. I also think Brooks Wheelan has the potential to be good.

I got around to watching it and although I didn't hate it, I expected more from a season premiere. Miley has hosted like 3 or 4 times now and that's more than enough. Musically, she's a vastly less talented version of Lady Gaga.

I don't think Alex Baldwin's trump is actually that good. The laughs are provided by what trump himself does and says. Who couldn't mock him and get a few laughs?
That's a problem with a lot of political comedy now. There's not much humor to simply tack on to real life events; the jokes need a fresh perspective. The snl skit when Chappelle was on w/the people watching the election results come in was good.

I agree with this. Darrell Hammond did a better job especially with the weird pouty lip thing that Trump has. Baldwin's version of Trump has been better in the past and I think he's letting his hatred of Trump ruin his impersonation.

it's probably part nostalgia for me, but if I'm at home at 1030 Saturday night I will always watch snl. watching it "live" on Saturday night will always be better to me than watching it sunday morning on my phone while sitting on the toilet or whatever.
same for me, fellow old ball(s). snl and then cbs sunday morning is a warm blanket for me, only two shows i do this way

I thought this week's episode was great. I laughed more than I have for quite a while. The Cheetos skit was racist, and an equal opportunity racism was evident. I didn't like that aspect, but the premise of the skit was funny.
Can you imagine if you are a newly arrived immigrant who crossed the border in the searing heat and you saw that sketch? You wouldn't think that type of micro aggression was funny.

I would say that recurring guest would be a good way to describe what he currently does on snl with the trump thing. like warm yellow light said, he makes less than 2k per appearance so your asertion that he makes more than the cast members is not close to being correct. also, he has never been a cast member. also, his first snl hosting appearance was in 1990 and he has hosted another 16 times since then for a total of 17 times in 18 years. this means that he pretty much hosts an episode a year and has done it for almost 20 years. he clearly seems to enjoy doing it and they certainly like having him. he has hosted snl more than any other person ever. wow!
Melissa McCarthy first hosted snl in 2011. Like Baldwin, she has never been a cast member. She also hosted in 2013, 2014 and 2016. this year will make it 5 out of 7 years for her and will allow her into the snl five timer club with people like ben affleck, justin timberlake, scarlett johansson and christopher walken.

In general I agree with you, I only had like maybe 2-3 moments while watching this one where I thought "o man, some super lib hollywood elitism going on here." The last several Oscars I felt I have those moments more often. Also, I thought the way most people approached the anti-rape, and minorities and women was more empowering than divisive, Frances McDermond's very creepy laughing aside.

I do get that it is a liberal group of people speaking their minds. I don't think that you could have watched Sunday and come out with an idea that they spent much time attacking the president. The Golden Globes certainly did, but the Oscars didn't. The "political" issues that were brought up were mostly the sexual assault and equality ones, which shouldn't be particularly political.
