yeah, Cookie was humming right along and i thought he would easily go 7 and all it took was one bad inning and then he ends up going the same distance as the braves starter. We definitely need a 7th inning guy, I think Tylor will fill that role nicely when he's healthy.
The most glaring thing for me last night...i'm now thinking that if we would have got Contreras i would very confidently say we are cruising to the NLCS. Its frustrating b/c from all accounts it sounds like the cubs were really just playing themselves by not dealing him. Like, we missed out on what could have been a crucial piece because the cubs were feeling recalcitrant. I think like 2 or 3 of McCann's plate appearances were situations where a base hit or even a productive out could have done some damage. I'm not sure Nido would have fared much better. Nido takes such a long swing, most of the time when he gets a hit i don't really think "nice at-bat Nido" i think "lucky us that his bat just happened to collide with the ball". Don't get me wrong Nido is a very good defensive catcher and i'm not sure i've seen any catcher throw out as many guys at 2nd from their knees as he does. But Contreras loves to sling it around and back pick, i don't think Nido's defense is appreciably better than Contreras but Contreras's bat is head and shoulders above McCann and Nido combined, imho.
