Guys I'm not going to even post pictures of Tulane games played in the Superdome because it will only make you really sad. I went to one against ECU in like '09 and I left feeling really bad about myself.
They've fallen so far. DID YOU KNOW that Tulane football used to be big? It's true. They played in the SEC up until 1966, when they left to be independent.
And they used to play in what was at the time an enormous stadium that seated over 72,000. And they regularly filled it, apparently. Or maybe not. But either way it was huge and badass and it hosted three Super Bowls and a gazillion Sugar Bowls and then it got condemned.
Look at this thing. They used to have it so good.
If you're interested in finding out more about this then I recommend you check out the wikipedia page on Tulane Stadium. Unlike the stadium, the wiki page is NOT condemned.
BUT GUESS WHAT!!!I've had an eye on this construction for a while because I drive by it on my way to work every day, but it's hard to see from the road. It's tucked behind the bat wave stadium and even if you walk up to it everything is fenced off. It's about as on-campus of an on-campus facility as you will ever see. There's like one parking spot max. Which is why a bunch of the uppity rich neighbors with actual mansions up against the property line fought really really hard for them to not build this stadium. A lot of them put signs in their yards that said, "30,000 people: where will they all park?!?" And it's like, HEY PEOPLE:
A) They're never filling that thing, are you kidding?
B) Do you think everyone who goes to football games drives? And drives solo, for that matter?
C) Pretty much the only people who will give a rip are students and they'll just walk from their dorms so shut your dumb faces and stop trying to be the levee against the momentum of this green wave. Levees in this town don't stand a chance, dorks.
YOU GUYS READY FOR SOME CRANES???
So here's what it's gonna look like. Kind of a weird design especially for such a little stadium but overall I think it's gonna be pretty badass. I'll save a review of the actual facility for when I can go to a game there and take pictures from the inside (it debuts in week 2 against Georgia Tech!). Here's what it will look like, though. Oh and btw you can learn more at
www.yulmanstadium.comI think this is gonna be the smaller side of the sideline bleachers. It's kinda weird. That side will only go up like 15 or 20 rows before it becomes press box. Was supposed to be way higher but the neighbors thought it would make way too much noise. I mean gmafb. It's Tulane football, these games aren't getting loud. Sick of this.
*edit* might be end zone. Can't tell.
Their lighting systems are honestly a weird mixed bag. Part of them are these tall Bishop Stadium'y guys and then others that you'll see later are very very elite-looking. p. weird combo.
Construction cats! Tell me what's going on here. Besides that BAD (Big-ass duct!
)
Anyone getting an egress boner yet? Honestly I think they should swap this with the aisles from Bramlage because these aren't actually all that wide for a football stadium imo. Should probably just trade with OOD straight up. Paging dax.
Don't forget that Sunday is Senior Day at The 'Plex.
One of the only angles you can see into the stadium through the fence. Is this guy on a Bobcat, or did the West Stadium renovation reserve exclusive rights to those things? Look how low to the ground that press box is LMAO. Hey ESPN 9, hope your cameras can zoom waaaay out.
Outside looks very modern. And those lights!
vroom vroom
The outside's kinda got a future'y looking bump on the outside. Almost looks like it should be on Reboot. (And as of Sept. 6th, WARNING: INCOMING GAME.)
Looks like some kinda transformer badguy in this pic or something. Tulane U., more like Transformer U., amirite
Stadium will connect to their student-athlete center or whatever.
I know I already gave you one Tulane DID YOU KNOW, but guess what, you get a bonus. Did you know! You don't actually have to be a student-athlete to walk around in that student-athlete thing. As long as you just barge in and act like you own the place you get free access to whatever room you want. Snoop around like crazy. Just go nuts. And you can take all the pictures you want because everyone thinks you own the place.
marble wave
All in all, I'm excited. They've been through a lot and deserve something nice and shiny. Don't quote me on this because I mean I'm not a football player or anything but I expect it to be way better than playing games in the outfield of their baseball stadium.
