What? Where?
Let me spell it out for you. I have a new favorite barbecue restaurant called Bite Me (gets points just for the name!!). It is located on 54 Highway on the east side of Goddard, Ks. Best brisket sandwich ever, really good sauce with a little kick, great beans and spicy carrots and cucumbers on the condiment bar. Didn't have the ribs but they looked delicious. Patron that was eating ribs said they were amazing. Will eat there every chance I get.

Probably better, actually. One area NYC will lose to Kansas/Kansas City every damn time is BBQ.

Last time I went there I had a buddy with me that couldn't believe we "called ahead" and still had to wait 2 hours to get a seat. He didn't understand that at G&M's you reserve your food. He understood shortly after. Mmmm I can almost taste the sauce-slathered wonderbread now.

Well it is sufficiently out of the way and ensures you some quality drive time. I guess we need to know what the alcohol situation is there and to what extent it allows you to carry on your drinking and driving fetish.

Roy's BBQ - Hutchinson
Easily the best thing about the town. Brought a few BBQ fetishists (sp?) there one time for ribs, them being skeptical that it could live up to the hype. It blew their minds.

Liquor store right next door. Having several :drink: before I leave the house, several more :drink: while I'm :driving: and then being able to re-stock next door after :lick: for the :driving: back home makes the 6 hour drive time seem like it doesn't even happen.

Jack Stack has great sides.

My buddy manages one of the Jack Stacks. Not sure which one though. Guess I should find out and try it out next time I'm in KC.
-
cheesy corn FTW. their burnt ends are bull crap though.

yeah, everyone thinks their crap is the best.

Smoking or grilling your own stuff is pretty sweet. So is just paying someone else (who knows WTF they're doing) and saving all the hassle.

The Jack Stack at 95th and Metcalf is right down the street from where I grew up . . . color me still unimpressed to this day.
Why didn't Boardroom BBQ pay their taxes . . . Why?? :bawl:

Flew into KC last Monday and tried OJ's for the first time. Z-Man FTW. Also bought the hot BBQ sauce to take home.

+1 on Oklahoma Joes being the best.
Had Rosedale a few weeks ago, sauce was terrible but the burnt ends were surprisingly good. Very juicy.

Rosedale is a polar opposite from OK Joe's as far as sauce style goes. Both are very good imo.

Need a little help guise...
Believe it or not, ol' BP has yet to eat at Oklahoma Joe's. When we land in KC on Friday evening before the UT game, we plan to head to one of 'em for some grub.
I know some BBQ joints are better for brisket (beef) and some for ribs (pork), thus my question is this: What are they best at? And, should we just head to the original location or would we have better luck at around 9pm at Leawood?
Any menu suggestions are welcomed as well.
-
IMO they are best at ribs and probably pork. Prefer Bryant's brisket, but there is no one right answer.
-
Walk your ass to Manhattan, Kansas and get yourself some Karnivore BBQ.
-

Thank you sir... That's what I'm looking for. Should we concern ourselves with location at all? Will we have any trouble getting in at 9-930pm on a Friday eve?
-
You haven't eaten Karnivore in like a year, Stevesie

They are only open until 10, but no, I don't think you'll have trouble at that time.

Much appreciated. We saw the hours on their website, so headed straight there before checking into our room.

where is your hotel?
We're gonna stay down south in the OP/Leawood area... We could either swing by the original or go to the one in Leawood and get to either at about the same time.

OK Joe's is comparable to Dickey's. Bland and terrible.
-
You gotta get a z-man, bookie.

the food is the same at the original and the leawood locashe so i'd pick the one closer to where you're staying. i'd also get it to-go.
-
Get a z-man if you like cheese and onion rings on your BBQ. Get something else if you like BBQ.

Wacky is just trying to lead me astray because I called him out for getting a burger at Kite's during SFA weekend..

Their burnt ends are higher in fat than most places, but they are delicious and juicy all the same.
Lately I've been getting the hog heaven on Texas Toast with beans, and it hasn't done me wrong.
I believe the special on Fridays is an open face sandwich with two sides and a couple ribs for like $15, so try that if you're wanting to try as much as possible.
-
oklahoma kc joes comes up in just about every thread on this board. love it or hate it, its the most popular and well known place in kc.
-
most popular place? wtf? have you ever heard of mcdonald's or subway? how about arby's?

Good advice, sir. I don't think the burnt ends will be an available option for us though.
