grumblings guys, just grumblings so far, but I got my hands on an advance copy of the Clemente announcement.  Unfortunately, like most things KSTATEO, it's a little KITN, mixed with a little opcat

"Morning, 'Cat fans!  It's a great day to be a fan of KSTATEO.  We've received a lot of good suggestions lately about how to honor past Wildcat basketball players.  Today we want to honor one of the best, who was the heart and soul of his team: Denis Clemente.  We've looked at all ways to honor Denis, from retiring his jersey, to naming the court after him, to making a bronze statue of him slapping Tyrel Reed in the back of the head.  We decided to go a different route -- beginning next season, the $3 popcorn (now $4) will be replaced with Denis Clemente Churros.

So grab a warm, crispy, chewy, sugary churro as you watch another WILDCAT VICTORY and remember one of the all-time cat greats, Denis Clemente."

A) Tex is from Texas.  He went to high school in California. http://www.kansascity.com/2010/11/20/2456317/love-for-basketball-is-tex-winters.html
B) He most certainly cut it as a head coach at KSU
C) Frank didn't go to KSU.  Bill Self didn't go to KU.  LHC Bill Snyder didn't go to KSU.  Name a coach that actually attended the school where they became famous.  I can't think of one.

Courts and fields and stadiums get named after guys who spend most of their careers in one spot and were committed to that community. Tex Winter did not do that.

Bob Huggins came in here and turned the thing around in one year.  Are we going to name a court after him?  Hell no.  Does he deserve to be in the Hall of Fame?  Yes.

The court or the next coliseum university may some day be named after Frank Martin.  We'll see.  He's off to a great start.  But if he leaves, we won't name anything after him.

The best way we can honor Tex Winter is to take his offense that we switched to in January and win the whole effing thing.
I want to wake up in a city that never sleeps, etc.

Hoiberg just finished his first year.  In last place.  He is not a famous coach.

Beamer is one. I also thought of Bear Bryant after I made that post. There must be some others, but the point is that there are not many.

Let’s see if this precludes kstatesports from parading him around at games this season.

K-State only names athletic facilities after crusty old people who are
still capable of returning to the sidelines and ruining the program.

 :surprised:
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.
