Most of you know that Austin Meek is my muse (I miss him so much), but who do you guys like?  Who is your fav K-State writer of all time?

EDIT:  And, by the way,  the best writer ever just took over Rival.com's K-State site.

Quote
Welcome to K-StateOnline.com, Rivals’ new site for Kansas State athletics. I’m Jeffrey Martin, the site’s managing editor and columnist. Some of you might remember me - I served as the K-State beat writer at the Wichita Eagle (and later at the Kansas City Star) from 2005-2009 - or the blog I launched, K-Stated. There was a ton happening during that span - LHC Bill Snyder’s (premature) retirement, the hiring of Ron Prince, Bob Huggins, Frank Martin and then Snyder again, Michael Beasley’s transcendent single season, a secret deal with Prince brokered by a novice athletic director - and my reporting was usually in the lead. The plan is for that to continue here at KSO, where I’ll be joined by senior writer Matt Hall, a K-State alum well-versed in Wildcat lore with a background at Rivals to boot, as well as our recruiting guru Derek Young, a former publisher and analyst at scout.com.

Our goal is to supply you with not only the best coverage of the Wildcats but also the most consistent coverage. In the process, we aim to engage - our presence on the message board will be substantial and we encourage feedback - and entertain - sports are fun, after all.

Take a look around and tell us what you think. I can be reached at [email protected]. Hit me up with anything you want, or anything you want to know, but here are some quick responses to what will probably be frequently asked questions:

I am living in Manhattan through the rest of the year but my family will remain in Portland, Ore., for the remainder of this season. I’ll be at every game, home and away, and almost every press conference.

I was contacted and hired by Rivals to serve in this capacity. In turn, I hired Hall, someone whose work and work ethic I’d always admired. (Plus I was in his wedding, so there’s that.) He is, in fact, the manager at Dick’s Sporting Goods in Manhattan, but I think you’ll find that he’s rather eager to get back to covering the Cats, so that’s what he’ll do for us.

You may be least familiar with Derek at the moment, but that will soon change. He’s a star. He’s going to handle recruiting at a different level than you’ve experienced in the past, and his background running Iowa’s Scout team site means he’s much more than just a recruiting analyst. We’re happy he’s on our side - and you’ll feel the same way.

We will have four writers with credentials at every home game.

Lastly, I am responsible for this site. Rivals used a talented and successful publisher as a consultant to find the best person to take over a site this network cares a ton about – but that was the extent of it. It’s up to me to guide our team as we entertain and delight all of you, and I’m up to the task.

Let’s get started.

If there was like a fantasy football draft for writers, and Meek is sitting there, I take him.  Objectively, I would have others higher than Meek, but not many.  He probably has an ADP of 4 or 5 otherwise.

JMart is probably the ADP 1 guy.  His popularity was second to none.  Janzen an Reichman (sp? on those)were institutions, but not particularly amusing to read.  Manbeck was like Bob Davis calling KU games, which I like.  Ubz isn't EMAW, but might as well be.

Can't forget about Winters' stint as a 13 year old cats video talk show host. Not "writing" per se, but deserves noting.

Almost anyone named in this thread would be a giant upgrade over the non-hambone trash we have now, but getting either of the guys back out of the PNW would be titanically giant.

Pete, as you couldn't be more familiar with, once you go black you never go back.
