Title: Police posted this on their facebook page
Post by: 420seriouscat69 on September 09, 2016, 10:01:02 AM
And I don't really have a problem with it, but some do. Thoughts?

Do those rough ridin' morons think that people battling addiction are going to be swayed by that photo? That is the grossest display of exploitation I have ever seen.

that one girl who posted the blackface picture, her being shamed is definitely going to prevent her and others from posting anything "racist"

this situation is even worse, the kid's life is going to be pretty mumped due to his parent's poor decision, way worse than blackface girl.

Because that isn't policing and no one would ever turn in a drug dealer to a group of people that look like that? What about those guys says that they are welcoming to receiving info from responsible citizens? Who t.f. wants a swat team patrolling their streets?

Hell even Euro airport police.  All they need is an assault rifle and German Shepard.

Oh you're back to that. Police really shouldn't be in the business of shaming people. I also don't think that picture will deter a single person from taking heroin. I would be quite surprised if someone took heroin without knowing death is a potential consequence, peer pressure and the need for a fix are much stronger pulls than cops shaming strangers at their lowest moment.

Criminals are shamed all the time, small town newspapers publish blotter, mug shots etc.

There is research that shock advertising does work as a deterrent.

Didn't KC used to have "John TV" where they showed people who had been arrested for solicitation of prostitution?

My biggest problem with whatever that was is that it's like the police did not even want their identities to be known.

I got shamed on the radio a few times on KMAN. Not fun. Maybe that's because I'm not a career criminal. I don't know.

Anywho, it sucked, but I was pretty deep in my addiction so it deterred nothing. I was beholden to the booze and I did what the liquor had me do.

It is embarrassing. I even lost a job over my name being in the paper for a charge that was dropped in video court the day after I was arrested. As paperwork had not been taken care of at the DA's office leading the RCPD to arrest me.

Yep, I hate all of that. Innocent until proven guilty unless pious people want to be entertained.

I'd love to read this study, seems like problematic methodology.

30 seconds

Although the use of shocking content in advertising appeals has been widely adopted, the effectiveness of such communication strategies has not been empirically investigated. In two laboratory studies, conducted in the context of HIV/AIDS prevention, we examine the effectiveness of shock advertising in comparison to the commonly used appeals of fear and information. Our findings suggest that shocking content in an advertisement significantly increases attention, benefits memory, and positively influences behavior among a group of university students.
