utah bars are actually pretty great, i think. they are technically private clubs and the patrons are members (or guests of members).

I believe they changed this when they hosted the Olympics.

Also KS was like that until the 80's

I'm talking about the college experience here, cf3. I'm thinking about the former student, that was wackycat08. Road trips made college a blast. Going to opposing schools, partying with their fans, checking out their campus. Utah is beautiful and all, but I would feel sad for any college student that would want to road trip there. I hope they know a friend in town to get into a bar.

I went to coffee shops in Salt Lake City. There are non-mormons and tons of mormons who cheat.

i would guess that the SLC "clubs" operated like bonita flats operates as a "club"
you pay a cover, you're a member of the club. i've never personally been to bonita flats, per se, but that's my guess.

My brother-in-law lives outside of SLC in Ogden. The whole area has some archaic alcohol laws. They are very strict on anything not labeled as a bar (i.e. makes more money from food than alcohol) and some restaurants even have "Zion Curtains" that separate those who aren't Mormon and will be drinking liquor from those who are Mormon. A lot of downtown bars scan your ID to come in, no matter how old you look nor what time of day you come in. That being said, there are normal bars that you can walk into and just get drinks at without paying a cover or being a member. As a whole though they take it way too seriously. Just gotta find the pockets of non-Mormon places.

They also have state-run liquor stores. Anything over a certain ABV content can only be sold in the state's stores, which are operated by state employees. Very weird setup. Also, for some reason you can find most liquors in any liquor store, but beer isn't always sold in liquor stores there.
