I was going to buy one because zipping through airport terminals on a hover board looked pretty bad ass, then airlines stopped allowing them on planes, so I lost my motivation.

I got one to give for christmas right before they got vanished from amazon. Everything I've researched makes me think it's real fuckups whose hoverboards are exploding and it's not based on the hoverboard so much. Just don't leave the thing charging way past full and unsupervised.
I don't think it'll be fun for more than 4 months.

i have the smaller and the big 10" one (lol couldn't decide on a size #firstworldproblems)
big one is amazing for cruising. small one is cooler but harder to ride. they're so much fun and the douchey feeling you get is a great high.
don't worry about explosions, get an outlet timer and buy a plug with a fuse. they only have problems if you overcharge

After all the debacles with amazon selling and pulling and reinstating the non-hoverboard I originally gifted, I'm probably gonna end up with having bought an extra one assuming the first one isn't broken or explosive. Gonna have to decide on returning it or keeping it for myself.
If they let them on planes by February, I could ride it around for a month and then ride it right off the plane to LSOC.

Also, it looks like I'd only be out $25 sending it back, not $50. Still not sure if I'd have much use for it until airlines lighten up about taking them. I did pay attention to the sidewalks when I was walking around yesterday and the curb cuts are relatively flat compared to what I was thinking.

I didn't! Kind of weird that the indicator's on the charger and not on the board. It only needed an hour to get up to full w/whatever it came with. I've got an extra of the stunted-recommended timer chargers too for whenever it needs more juice. Took it out to these skreets after the game but wasn't confident enough to get off my block and over to the waterfront. Beta. :frown:

I'm still on my first charge; still haven't used it that much because I haven't had time to go find a really ideal spot outside for a long ride. Once daylight savings time hits and it gets a little warmer I'll be riding it around the waterfronts at night. And once I get more confidence on it from that, I'll start using it more in downtown during the day. Right now, I don't like riding it around too many people because I'm afraid of wiping out and going #viral.
They're much more prominent on the love and hip-hop family of shows than in my 'hood so far.

AMC was running a Back to the Future marathon this weekend. I was talking with my kids about how Part II's 2015 differs from today (Cubbies :lol:), and my wife chimes in "well, they did finally invent the hoverboard." So then my son goes bonkers and is all "I'm totally getting a hoverboard for xmas!" What do you do in that situation? Tell your wife she's wrong in front of the kids, or just stay quiet and hope the kids forget about it? I opted for silence.

So, there's a kid on my street who got a Hoverboard for Christmas. Little dude is probably ten years old, and he rides this thing everywhere. I'm not even sure he knows how to walk anymore. He made a ramp for it so that he can roll from the house, off the porch, and onto the driveway. This kids takes it down to the 7-11 to pick up snacks, he plays hoops while on his hoverboard, he operates a dog walking service by hoverboarding a bunch of dogs around the neighborhood on leashes. I'm assuming he is the most popular kind in school and will go onto be a very successful adult. Clearly this kid has it figured out, and the rest of us are just playing catch up.

I'd have to do some digging, but when I got mine I read about some things to look for on the plug to see if it's more legit. But really, I think they're all virtually equal, it's just a matter of not leaving them on a charger way past full charge. I still haven't had to charge mine, but I know others using those timer plug-in things discussed in this thread have had no issues.

Mine was on the list. The one I gift'd wasn't.
So I'm reading that and it's implying that I'd have to get w/the distributor, not amazon, to settle up and arrange to ship the thing to them. That sounded like it would be a miserable experience. I research a bit and see the same stories from late January or February about how amazon was taking any they sold back and refunding, but I never saw that amazon actually said that.
So I use the amazon site "contact us" page basically asking what I'm to do w/this one that was def recalled as well as the one that wasn't but seems questionably safe given all I've read. I get a response back from amazon that had me thinking amazon was hacked. It was in nigerian prince-ese.

That was late last week and I hadn't hear anything, so I figured I'd try something else just now. I find another option on the "contact us" page where I put in my phone # and instantly get a call. It sounds like I'm talking to the writer of the above message, but we surprisingly get on the same page of us just trying to figure out what the options are for these 2 h'boards. He's saying because they're $450 and $500 and that's more than he can authorize, he's gotta talk to a boss.
He comes back on and is talking about processing refunds once he gets the OK from the boss. I ask before you get too far w/that, what am I gonna have to do, send this bomb back to you and also track down the gifted one and take it back? He says I won't have to worry about tracking down the gifted one but doesn't explain.
A couple more holds and checkups go and he comes back on and tells me he's got my refund processing for $950 to my card I paid with (chase freedom 10x points at the time, I hope I don't lose all those points, but still $950). I keep waiting for directions on how to send these things back and it never happens, so I don't ask. He says he'll send me a confirmation email. So I'm thinking, wow I just got all my money back and can still hoverboard so long as I don't become Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) and charge mine for a week. But I guess that's the deal - money back and do whatever you want w/your hoverboard including keeping it and continue to 'board.

And LOL at these things supposedly being so dangerous that they're being recalled with all the sellers/distributors eating the money, but not only are they still out in the world and my living room, but it's suggested that I alternatively donate it to someone else apparently more worthy of being blown up.

Amazon is the best. I thought they didn't deliver two things a few weeks ago so I contacted them and they said no worries we'll send them right out. Turns out Mrs Dave got the deliveries and put them in the basement.

It's crazy. I was telling my buddy about where things stood yesterday w/that weird nigerian prince response I'd gotten so far at that point, and he was complaining about some amazon ordeal he was involved with. Can't wait to update him on how mine all played out. Will probably be hoverboard'n as I tell him the story.

I can still log into my account on their website and see my order. But this is the description of the item I purchased:

Call the CPSC that ordered the recall if you're really wanting to pursue it. But don't expect that you're simply gonna get a check for $300 or whatever; their listed remedy is:
Consumers should immediately stop using these recalled products and contact the recalling company to return their hoverboard for a full refund, a free repair or a free replacement depending on the model.
I think I only got the deal I did b/c it's amazon and they'd rather give out a bunch of money than have to deal with doing all that shipping. How that absolves them of liability, I have no idea, given that they've said I or whoever I give it to can keep the thing.

You'd call CPSC and tell your tale and see what they advise.
Obviously, they don't burn houses down unless you overcharge the crap out of the thing. If they did, these "recalls" wouldn't be so nonchalant or in amazon's case, nonexistent.
Look at the people in the news stories about hoverboard fires and ask yourself if you look like them.

Well then why did you tell me to figure out if thing is recalled? I guess I will just ignore the recall and plug the hoverboard in to charge while I am away at work.

Our Factory is also one of the first manufacturers to start making this brand of balancing scooters. They specialize in this type of product, hence, they have already identified and resolved the issues of initial shipments.

Just checked and the near-thousand dollars is credited to my freedom card. I think there was a delay since my card # changed between last year and now. Only 1x the UR points are getting deducted and they'll all end up coming back and then some as I use that $1000 on meals and costco over the next few months at 5x.
And my place didn't burn down while I was covering and left the 'board at home.
Moral of the story, next christmas, buy the trendy but possibly lethal gift from amazon that will eventually get recalled but not really recalled, and don't overcharge it.
