You prob already have a place, but if not, find the cheapest place on the strip with a nice pool. Good place: Excalibur. You won't be in your room much and the pool is fantastic.
Also, see if Purple Reign is playing (Prince Tribute band), they may still do the House of Blues on Sunday nights . They also have a tribute Morris Day and Jerome. Best $10 show you'll ever see.
Finally, get into trouble and all, but never, I repeat NEVER shazbot! with the LVPD. Those guys don't shazbot! around.
I know a guy who says that when he goes to Vegas, he goes to the roulette wheel and puts $5 and red and $5 on black. He says that since he's gambling, they bring him free drinks and he only loses $10 whenever the wheel comes up green. I've never tried this myself and I can't imagine that the drinks come that often, but if you're down to your last $10, it might be worth a shot.
Drinks at the pool are going to be very expensive but some pools will let you bring your own drinks in if you aren't toting a cooler around or being obnoxious about it.

One time at Monte Carlo I tried to be obnoxious about it and they told me I could only bring six in at a time but they let me keep the 30 pack at the entrance. I may have been slightly inebriated.

Honestly? The Monte Carlo should prolly be sucking your dick for anyone staying there and gracing the pool with their presence. Still pretty nice of them I guess. Caesars would let us buy our drinks just inside the doors of the casino at one of those little quick shops they have everywhere. It was just as close as the pool bar and was about 1/4 the price. But, still more expensive than going to Walgreens or whatever.

I mean I tried to bring in a 30 pack on my shoulder. And Monte Carlo rooms are nicer than Caesar's. :surprised:
<----Rated baccarat player @ Monte Carlo (MGM/Mirage)
will also be out in vegas for the first time also (aug 6-9th). staying here http://www.arialasvegas.com/ (http://www.arialasvegas.com/) anyone been there before???
HAD a BLAST. Played pretty even until the last day. Can't wait to go back. Aria was nice.
We stayed at MGM FWIW.
yes. how much porn was handed to you on the street? how much did you throw down at the strip club? did you go see penn and teller or chris angel mindhump?!
Day one. Left MCI @ 7:40 drank bloody Mary's on the plane. My friend who is an elite air traffic controller called the pilot who told the crew to take care of us and we got 2 free drinks and an announcement of the bachelor party which got us 2 or 3 more (can't remember from Randos on the plane)that's an awesome report, sounds like you guys had fun. also- i got hungover just reading about your weekend.
Touch down, hit liquor store Welcome to Vegas sign ETC. Arrive at hotel, room's not ready. Register for 11:00 poker Tourney @ MGM. Play some table games and drink waiting for Poker tourney. Won about 100 bucks playing Holdem shootout.
Post poker tourney we hit a craps table. We play for like 6 hours completely losing track of time. up like 400 bucks at this point. Go to hotel room. Go to the pool for happy hour 6-7:30 15 dollar Sangria pitchers. Win a poolside beer pong tourney.
crap shower and shave, go out for a dinner at Top Chef guys steak house. At this point don't remember what I ate. Walk the Strip from MGM to Oshea's(?) gamble there, Gamble at Wild Bill's(?) Take A cab to Strip club, Sapphire Where I'm greeted by Frenchy from Rock of love  at this point I'm the only one up and retardedly I treat at the club. Don't stay very long. Hit up Freemont street gamble at like 3 or 4 places. One of my friends and I get a bite to eat at a diner (4 AM ish?) I'm eating my burger and look up over my buddie's shoulder and in front of me at a booth 20 feet away is sitting a 40ish overweight prostitute in a black miniskirt with legs spread showing me her abused chaunch. Throw up in my mouth a little while lol'ing for my buddy to turn around.
Day 2, Hit up MGM lazy river pool, float around for 3-4 hours playing peg the prostitute. Go to stratusphere to do the jump off the top thing (I did not do). came back to the strip and hit up Ceasar's Oshea's again bumble around some other places Crashed about 4 AM again, got up at 8 did some morning gambling @NY NY, and Aria got to the airport @ 11 for 12:30 flight that got delayed 45 mins. Ate an incredible 360 burrito. Came home.
Might have pics at some point. Pretty much a tornado of drinking and gambling. can't wait to go back.
It went crazy fast. I will slow down the next time. My body almost couldn't handle it. Would have walked around and sight see'd during the day more.Vegas is always like that, hence the reason most people don't spend more than 2 days, 3 max there. Otherwise they'd all die.

kinda feel weird though when all my old ballz co works are like "did you go here?" did you see this?" "did you do _______________?"
and I'm all no, no, no.
I am about to go into a deep hybernation to prepare to survive my wed thur sunday trip in two weeks. Never done more than three days in vegas at a time. Hope my liver can take it. :scared:

What did they want you to see? From your post you covered all the must sees imo :dunno:
Anybody read this book?
I'm reading it now...going to Vegas in Jan. older bro has read (and practices) the techniques.

Cire, great report. I can tell the entire first half was total BS but I love you for it anyways.
Now for Vegas alums: Spending a week out there a month from now, how do I proceed? No gambling suggests because I only hit the nickels and spend my money on tips to keep the dranks comin. Otherwise, I am a stodgy, stuck-in-my-ways bad person who degrades females and Obama lovers, what's the best place to have fun? tia
ps don't say on Fremont
i was going to suggest Sac & FoxCire, great report. I can tell the entire first half was total BS but I love you for it anyways.

this week staying @ the Palazzo Friday - Monday. yes folks, the same Palazzo that was featured in episode 18 of the fifth season of MTV's The Hills as well as a setting for the dramatic season three finale.
where are you staying, when?not sure, like, may of next year.
got offered cocaine twice by the same guyI can assure you this son of a bitch was nowhere to be found at Vegas Pak :curse:
diablos
i leave tomorrow :excited: for the weekend and :ohno: + + :barf: for next week when i get back
my friend stayed at aria last week, said it was amazing but not fully opened yet

I think this may be the mexican place you were talking about and not the biker bar. They have excellent bar type mexican food. Love their nachos. Also, it is mere steps from Aria so I don't think you would need a cab :dunno:

the cantina place was just a restaurant. and it was right on the strip. west side south of the aria.
west side of the strip, but south of the aria.
wow on the write up. My trip has been a blur. I will try to piece it back together after I review the pics on my phone.

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Still kicking self for not eating out more when I was there.
ya all of those places i listed plus a trip to the Wynn's buffet which i forgot to mention in my original post all happened in a 48 hour time span. i was sitting down at places when i was still full from the last meal. but i knew i was surrounded by the best food in the world and wanted to take full advantage.
the wynn buffet was pretty solid, it was $35 + they offered a $7 bump that included all you can drink champagne. LOL damn it.
i ate about a pound of shrimp and another 3-4lbs of alaskan king crab legs.

I thought the wynn buffet was pretty overrated. Had just as good of a buffet at Paris for $10 cheaper.
20-1 on the katz? Friend just got back 2 weeks ago and the odds sheet he brought back from mandalay bay had them at 37-1. I think you just left 1700 on the table bro.
forgot to mention- when we were checking into the hotel, i slide the guy at the desk a $20 and asked for an upgrade. it worked.
Mandalay's sheet had Katz at 15:1. Didn't take it but should've. Wanted to bet the KSU and CU games this weekend as well, would've won both if I had.
Most impressive thing about Vegas from Wed-Mon? They had UNLV fans outnumbered 5,000:1. Badger Bobs and Badger Betties with their little Badger babies with their beady Badger eyes. Drinking Badger beer and stinky Badger breath, they drank and smoked and gambled and did their Badger best. Their Badgers beat the bastards but they lost their Badger bets, for the bastards screwed the Badgers when it came to covering the spread.
In short there were a lot of fat fracking cheeseheads there mucking everything up. I wish we could travel like them. :frown:

10th trip to Vegas! It just doesn't get any better than Circus Circus, does it? Baccarat all day and Zamora the Torture King tonight
Tried the $20 trick at the MGM signature and it didnt work, I'm guessing its because those towers were built as condo's but they had to rent them out as rooms once the economy crapped out. I ask if I could move to a higher room and got moved to the 17th floor from the 8th.

saul you don't really seem too much like a vegas guy to me. why not just hit sac-n-fox for an hour and follow up with a trip to culvers?I'm more of a Golden Eagle fan. No, not much of a Vegas guy but wife really wants to go. Would rather go to Disney world tbh, but who knows I may really enjoy myself.
Also, saul, did you choose The Mirage because it has a Carnegie Deli? Seems like too much of a coincidence. not-anit-semiteNo, I did read about that though. Won't eat there since it says it's like $20 per sandwich and sharing is extra.

Chose Mirage b/c it seemed nice, centrally located, did ok in the Steve Dave ratings (in the vegassummerpak thread), and got a decent rate.
Yeah, plan on it. Any rec's? Plan on spending lots of $$$ on food, moderate amount on gambling and shows. Also, saul, did you choose The Mirage because it has a Carnegie Deli? good reasons. you should eat at some nice pricey places while you are there though. pretty much the best thing about vegas is the amazing food imo.
i really doubt you enjoy vegas, actually i'd be shocked if you didn't hate it. pretty much seems to be the anti-saul type of place. bring a lot of alcohol based germ killing hand lotion and you might make it out alive. there used to be a gates & sons there but it closed.saul you don't really seem too much like a vegas guy to me. why not just hit sac-n-fox for an hour and follow up with a trip to culvers?I'm more of a Golden Eagle fan. if you like sushi, sushi samba in the palazzo is greatness.
every big chef (mario, emeril, flay, etc) have steak houses in vegas, all good.
because we can get (imo) the best steak in the world here in kansas.
sushi samba. sushi samba. sushi samba. great.Very true about the steak thing.
agree w/ sd's bouchon recommendo, i went there in august. it's french inspired though, and really expensive.
i'm kind of like you in that i don't usually go to steak houses when i'm out of KC just because we can get (imo) the best steak in the world here in kansas.
also of note: i'lll be returning to vegas for 3/17-3/20 for 1st round/2nd round games.
i don't know the wichita area but there are steakhouses across ks that serve steaks that can go up against anything you'd have in vegas/LA.because we can get (imo) the best steak in the world here in kansas.
Where?
Fine to start a separate Kansas/KC steakhouses vs. Vegas steakhouses thread if necessary.

do you know what they serve in steakhouses in LV? dry aged prime cuts of beef. that's it. oh- and a baked potato or some other variant of a starch. it's really not all that difficult. i've eaten at places in western ks that served prime cuts of beef that were raised and slaughtered and aged in the same town. no i don't know the name.i don't know the wichita area but there are steakhouses across ks that serve steaks that can go up against anything you'd have in vegas/LA.because we can get (imo) the best steak in the world here in kansas.

didn't you call me and tell me that you and all your friends were coming to Omaha for Lady Gaga on the 17th? Yes, you did. I was all, "First round of the NCAA you Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!)" and you were all, "No, gaga, we are all going".

in kc you can go to plaza 3 or capital grille and you'll be eating the same crap they serve at carnevino, prime, charlie palmer, and cut.
ya not sure. it's just meat.in kc you can go to plaza 3 or capital grille and you'll be eating the same crap they serve at carnevino, prime, charlie palmer, and cut.
We all ordered what we were told was the best steak CG had, and it wasn't nearly as good as Vegas places. CG was pretty weird too for a "fine steakhouse". Dudes were rolling around on the floor and crap.

Going for my 5th time in late may for a bachelor party, most likely over Memorial day weekend. Anyone been that weekend?
I'm guessing its a little busier than normal and the hotels might be more expensive but really have no idea.
Every time I have been to Vegas in the spring time (March) it ends up being colder than it is that day in KS. I have had bad Vegas luck.

O'sheas? :dunno:
BZZZZZZZZZZZT, wrong. Already got that on the itinerary.O'sheas? :dunno:
there's no way in hell that saul goes into o'sheas
i went there myself, couldn't believe how expensive it was. always get the bone in ribeye. can't wait for march.
Speaking of steaks in vegas. The only one I have eaten out was Delmonico but it was ridiculous. I had bone in ribeye.Delmonico is the definition of elite.

Delmonico is the only place I have ordered Scotch as dessert. Felt big timey.
did not. blanc in omaha should be opening any time now, they serve truffle fries too, i'm not a huge fan of theirs so...i went there myself, couldn't believe how expensive it was. always get the bone in ribeye. can't wait for march.
Did you get the truffle fries? amazing.
are they those kettle chips? like super crunchy?

during the day you can find some. Try harrahs, it sucks but they have outside tables that are usually $5 and they keep the drinks coming and is right across the street from you. The mirage will usually have some $10 tables set up during the day but I don't know that I've ever seen $5.

Love that outdoor blackjack pit at harrahs, I can confirm they do have $5 tables. I also found some at tropicana last september on a friday night, they put out the $10 sign around 10. They just remodeled the Tropicana about a year ago and it just nails the 80's coke influenced scarface look.
Summer before last when i went it was pretty gross. However, they remodeled since then and i've heard it's a lot nicer. Good place to gamble though. Low minimum blackjack tables.yeah, I heard the tropicana isn't bad now. Have never been though.Where can I find $5 blackjack tables with 3:2 payouts (weekdays).

just got back from Vdara. all suites and no smoking throughout the property. No casino or formal restraunt though. It is attached to the Bellagio via skywalk thing and the Vdara is right next to it. half the rooms overlook the bellagio fountains which was pretty cool. rooms were very nice. we spent most of our time at Aria which is my new favorite casino. ate at Julian Serrano's in city center. tapas and spanish food. very, very good. also spent a lot of time at Todd English PUB in the same place. went to Mesa again but it was kind of meh compared to the other times we have been. was pretty PAK'd by the time we got there though so my senses were dulled. won about $1,500 on the tourny/blackjack which was nice. I'm the only person in the world that can get wiped out on a pai gow table immediately. at one point I had about 5 pai gows in a row which I'm pretty sure is the record.

I'll have to hang out there quite a bit. Did you check out the Cosmo at all? Is it dreamy?
My long held and much criticized opinion that the Excalibur is a decent hotel has fallen. SD and his lackeys win again.
I set up a trip for my father to meet up with my sister and her friends. I set him up in a budget room basically, at the MGM Grand, and I just got this text from him: Sweet they didn't have my room so they gave me a suite 1000sq feet Jacuzzi and all. Needless to say I'm a bit envious. All because he was delayed by weather out of Wichita.

pretty great when you get upgrades like that. happens a lot in vegas. why does the MGM care that they were delayed?

One of my bro's is having his bachelor party there. I'm sure I won't have the balls to sneak cocaine on the plane, so what would be the best to snot: Adderall or Hydro's?

Did that for 5 straight years, was fantastic. Now we usually go on the 2nd weekend, so we can actually sit in a sportsbook. Less games but less chaos.

Don't know why, but I love that place.
We will both report.
Just booked our flights for this year's NCAA tourny. Want a two bedroom suite. Has anyone stayed at the Signature by MGM or the Planet Hollywood Towers? Any other suggestions for multi room suites?
Staying in Vegas next Friday-Monday. This will be my fourth time going. Any ideas for shows and/or restaurants to go to for someone that has seen most of the mainstream Vegas attractions. I'll definitely be hitting Freemont Street, gotta check out the Binions Poker Room.

you going with guys or the wife/couples? If wife/couples have you seen Zumanity? Pretty mainstream but we enjoyed it. Got a couch in the front row to ourselves.
Julian Serranos has fantastic tapas and those are always fun in a group. Todd English PUB is great for watching games and drinking. Craftsteak is great.

Can't believe I forgot to report back about my PH Towers experience. Sorry bros. By far the most elite hotel I have ever stayed at in Vegas. (The others include some low-budg ones; of course I could afford a nice place each time because I am :kstategrad:, but sometimes you just don't want to throw your riches in peoples' faces like that.)
The hotel was super duper awesome. Went there with four bros for a bachelor party and the room was as big as my parents' upstairs. Just huge. As far as square footage goes, I don't think you can even count that high. Of course, we may have gotten a special deal because our friend who booked it got absolutely terrible customer service, bitched about it, and got us an upgrade--pretty sure they gave us two rooms for the price of one and just removed the door in the middle or something. Even if it had just been one room though, it still would've been massive.
Let's talk TVs. Because there were 8. One tiny one in each bathroom. Small ones in one of the kitchens. Large-ish ones in the bedrooms and one of the living rooms....and then in the main living room you can lower a screen over the humongous window and it becomes a dope projection TV. Full kitchen. Hot tub in bedroom. Dope showers. Humongous leather L-shaped couches. Pretty much anything you could need.
As for PH's other things outside of the room: Sports book seemed pretty good. Haven't had a bunch of sports book experience in my day but this one was busy and I won money on Kazzu beating Texas Tech so it's cool with me. Pool seemed pretty dope. Met some Australian guys there who had been blowing coke for three days straight and taught us lots of hilarious Aussie slang. (Ugly girls in Australia are called beanbag dragons.) There's a pretty decent shopping mall-type place (kinda like the Venetian) if you are unfortunate enough to go to Vegas with a lady. Pretty dece. food court although not the best ever. They do have this one quick sandwich place, though, called Earl of Sandwich...yum. Just yum.
Hotel is in kind of a weird place and not really on the strip, which is kind of a drag, but whatever. Our view from our room wasn't that hot (kind of a sideways/backwards view of a little bit of the strip). Overall though, very awesome place and would totally recommend, especially if you can call ahead to book and complain after getting terrible service and get an upgrade because of it.

good lord. do you live there and not even venture onto the strip (most townies don't, it's fine). treasure island is awful. it doesn't even have dirty charm like O'Sheas. hopefully Bill's sticks around in some form. I miss the Barbary Coast though.

trim and I were going to get those tattoos that only last a month or whatever. were going to get full back/chest tattoos of the pakhead. the tattoo lady told us that because it was so rediculous she would give us a deep discount to do it. didn't have time before our flight though. we had pakhead shirts on. were going to go wake up jmart in the room and pull off our shirts to reveal the exact design of the shirt on our chest/back.

O'Sheas cheap craps was a great learning experience.
O'Sheas cheap craps was a great learning experience.
Played craps for the first time at O'Sheas. I didn't realize that you rolled the dice from wherever you were standing at the table, I thought you had to go to the end of the table to roll them. So the guy slid them over to me and I picked them up to go to the head of the table and everyone started yelling and laughing at me, the guy had to replace all the dice, security came over soon after to watch me for a good twenty minutes. Luckily I had drank enough to not be embarrassed.
O'Sheas fun fact #785: multiple people I've been with have been kicked out (male and female). Trim couldn't even get kicked out.
Used to play craps during my highschool days. We had a traveling table, built it in shop class. It was black velvet, detachable base, and even had cup holders. I think my stepbrother has it in storage.
OShea's fact #352
You can ask the dealer if she chases her children around their trailer with a wooden spoon and still not get kicked out.

Not a big fan of clubs in Vegas so I cant help you out there. My recommendo is the walk up and down the strip hitting up different casino's, I usually stay for 2 drinks. Finish 1 at the table, take other with you.
***Pro tip*** If you are with a group of bros around 2-3am find a table close to the clubs exit. Have a great time and let everyone know you are heaving a great time, the girls will come.

well, i can't afford to play $1000 hands of blackjack all day long
i once played bacarat for 18 hours straight, average bet per the pit boss was $25/hand, averaged 60 hands per hour. over the 18 hour stretch we traded over $25k. they comped me two meals, elite.
monte carlo, it was a fun table. the guy next to me, he'd only bet every once in a while, and when he did bet it was like $5k, or $15k, etc. he'd just ask for a marker and they'd print one out, then he'd tell me to bet with him.i once played bacarat for 18 hours straight, average bet per the pit boss was $25/hand, averaged 60 hands per hour. over the 18 hour stretch we traded over $25k. they comped me two meals, elite.

that's about what you are going to pay. you will sometimes get a late fare sale but by now you probably need to just book. with sw you can cancel and rebook at the cheaper price if it goes down.

yeah I think we paid around $325 last time. I just didn't want to be a dumbass and buy now and then see them go down. I know the traditional thinking is 6 weeks or so prior to travel date, but vegas seems to follow it's own rules.

that's about what you are going to pay. you will sometimes get a late fare sale but by now you probably need to just book. with sw you can cancel and rebook at the cheaper price if it goes down.
yeah I think we paid around $325 last time. I just didn't want to be a dumbass and buy now and then see them go down. I know the traditional thinking is 6 weeks or so prior to travel date, but vegas seems to follow it's own rules.
Did you read steve dave's post? you can cancel and rebook with no penalty on SW.
any goEMAWs gonna be in Vegas this weekend?

How do you avoid the $20+ covers for clubs and whatnot? How common is this?

***Pro tip*** If you are with a group of bros around 2-3am find a table close to the clubs exit. Have a great time and let everyone know you are heaving a great time, the girls will come.

Caesars has lined up $185 million in financing to renovate the 199-room property into a “lifestyle” gaming hotel and casino featuring a 65,000-square-foot rooftop pool and dayclub/nightclub.
HAD a BLAST. Played pretty even until the last day. Can't wait to go back. Aria was nice.
We stayed at MGM FWIW.
Won $2000+ this weekend. Also won the heart of a woman twice my age and change at a rooftop club.

does it suck to go to vegas in the middle of the summer (July, August). Like is it so hot you wouldn't want to go, or does it even matter cause you're inside all the time?

After living in the bay area and Michigan for almost five years, the Vegas mid summer heat feels rough ridin' awesome.
the "vegas in summer isn't bad because no hummidity" thing is complete bullshit. it's as hot as the sun. it does make the pool extra fun. but like clams said walking the length of the strip in the middle of the day is pretty much out of the question unless you want to be completely sweated through your clothes.

sd, Las Vegas is not really as hot as the sun. that is ridiculous. the sun is almost 10,000 degrees Fahrenheit.
I am sorry but I just do not believe you

the pool water turned into lava. my beer only stayed cold for a few minutes so I had to chug.
Let's talk more Vegas. Not going until October but thinking may have to make a summer trip for pools.
Pissclams: Mrs. KK has a special report for you from Vegas. Her and the girls got a bunch of SushiSamba sig cocks comped (probably by a dude trying to bone patrol). Act at Palazzo got the  from mrs. kk. Apparently a super scary guy in a black horse mask and high heels. American Horror Story meets Great Gatsby is the report.
New game: Help select Trim's vegasPAK hotel!
Arriving 8/30, departing 9/1. Plans are to poolPAK, blackjackPAK and eatoutPAK. Hoping to watch the Friday night 5:30 pm their time CATS game with EMAWgeddon and company, Rake and The Ed at a book (or at Rake's regular home) where we can pak and somewhat see and hear the game until we're up by 40 and #life gets taken out. May need to take our victory party to Hyde that night. Beyond that, just drinking, pool, light gambling and going to good places for food and partying post-sd-bedtime.
EMAWgeddon may already be committed to Paris with her crew, but I'm completely flexible. See some cheaper Harrah's branded rooms with a discount code I have, but nothing that would make that the option over someplace elite. I have all the standard hotel program memberships/points.
Go!

Go!
These are basically worthless in Vegas.
I would say on the Strip the best pool is the Mandalay. I'd stay at THEhotel, but on the outside chance you can use four seasons points (are these a thing?) do that.
http://www.mandalaybay.com/accommodations/thehotel/ (http://www.mandalaybay.com/accommodations/thehotel/)
Does Kelly still work there? You should go get a picture with her, tell her your a huge fan. Whatever, just get it done and post it here.
May need to take our victory party to Hyde that night.
if you have Hyatt status try staying at the aria or bellagio and see if they treat you like a big time stud gambler.

Just regular platinum status that comes with the card.
These are basically worthless in Vegas.
I think they can be used, but it would generally be dumb to when compared to normal cities. But if I can get credit or something for a program because they have an affiliated hotel there, :thumbs:I would say on the Strip the best pool is the Mandalay. Kind of far from the rest of the strip? But with my plans, probably not an issue. If I'll be in the pool/casino most of the time, good reason to get a THEhotel room over the regular Mandalay?
The monorail (not called monorail on the opposite side of the street that links the casino families) thing is free, easy to use and can get you down to the heart of the strip with a little walking.
The good reason to stay at THEhotel is that it is significantly nicer than the Mandalay rooms.
If you rule that out, I think the Venetian/Palazzo are good options as well. Aria if you are going crazy or can find a decent deal.
I'd rather stay at the crappy Caesars or Paris than stay at either end of the strip. drunken walkability is a key factor in my booking a place.
sd, just make the call for me.
I've got 41K Marriott points, silver status.
221K PC points, platinum status.
189K HHonors points, gold status.
27K Hyatt points, platinum status
42K spg, no status.
Over 33K UR points available.
Def fine with paying whatever, but fine with using points too if it's an ok deal. Using hyatt wouldn't be bad because I don't use the seattle hotel anymore that I normally used them at. I don't go to Hawaii or Europe to get max value, and I should have another free night coming my way soon anyway.
You know what I like.

I'd either use Marriott to get a night free at the Cosmo and then pay for whichever remaining night was cheaper or use the PC points at Venetian. That's a shitload of PC points. what kind or room rates are you looking at that time of year?

Haven't really looked at rates in detail, other than seeing that Saturday night is disproportionately higher (labor day weekend). Actually just switched from the prior weekend when it would've been cheaper to pak w/EMAWgeddon and to watch EMAW w/rake, and have the Monday recovery day. Worth the higher rates. Don't care if I'm getting the best value points-wise as opposed to best for this trip - pools, most convenient to pak, viakoffman-level blackjack.
just read back to find the weekend you were going. ill be in vegas with several other (go)emaws that weekend.
sounds like a friday night emaw watch pak could be in the works :dunno:

Looks like I'll do something off here. Just hooked up the MLife to get that gold status. Using points for the more expensive Saturday night seems feasible and any number of those places will meet my needs.

Aria seems to be a consensus gE pick, but I'll take all input. Mandalay's pool does look fun.

Mandalay's on that list. I won't be mad at you if you expand on your opinion a bit.
There won't be much time between arrival and the gamePAK to do too much (not sure how long it'll take to get that pak head back tattoo outside of Harrah's), so the pool won't be a huge factor then. Saturday will be the big skin cancer day. A little on Sunday before 3pm departure. Basically just comes down to how much better the MB pool is over anything else on the list when weighed vs. the other options that'll probably be better in all other non-pool aspects.

hey trim, most of america has the following monday off. you should consider flying back on monday. :dunno:
It will be easier for you to get a table at Hyde if emawgeddon is in Vegas with at least 5 other girls (highly unlikely). Not sure on the set up though but that might get too crowded if you add in 3 guys to that mix.
Sometimes you can find deals by paying your concierge $20 to get you a table. A riskier move is to just show up, walk to the front of the line and try palming a couple few $20's to the door guy, otherwise it looks like bottle service reservation which will be like $150-200/person.

I'll consider it. It'd be an extra $150 plus whatever another hotel night costs, I kind of want to have Monday home to recover and catch up on work, and normally that 3rd night is kind of overkill. But I'm open to it, we'll see.

T-Y, KK. Of course that Bellagio line at the end of my long serious post seeking further input from you on whether Mandalay Bay pool offsets the distance and less eliteness of Aria was a joke.

We stayed in an Aria two bedroom penthouse sky suite last year and honestly i wasn't as impressed as i thought i would be. The private lobby was lame. The bathrooms were amazing, the rest of the room was okay, it seemed really cramped even though it was 2000 sq ft.

Miegecat has set us up at BWW for the local alumni watch party. The volleyball team will be there, so well also probably pak at that game against UNLV. Pretty cool idea?

Ha, you're the 23 guys from Kansas the lady was talking about.
That particular BWW's relatively far from the strip. You all committed to that or you want me to see if these other options would be better?

The Ed just told me it's a nice spot but far from the strip. And that there's a water amusement park by it.

Headed out to vegas for a bachelor party March 6-9(69 LOL )
The last two times we have stayed at MGM Signature, will probably look for a new hotel.
Please make a recommendation based off these requirements/assumptions
1. Is cheap, but not imperial palace type cheap.
2. We will spend no time in the room besides sleeping
3. Must be on the strip.
4. Will probably need 3 rooms in a block together

PH is great for bachelor parties. Cheap, nice enough, younger crowd, good center strip location.

Yeah. Would've been better if my plans had remained never leaving the property. It was a pain to meet people down the strip or at suburban BWWs.
Definitely wouldn't stay there if the pools aren't open.

Get on Hotwire and look at South Strip hotels. The 5 star South strip offer is Aria, Cosmo, or Vdara. You can't go wrong with any of those.
Jab, go see Tiesto at Hakkasan.
I would highly recommend going to XS and seeing Above and Beyond or Avicii. Actually, pretty much anyone they put out there is awesome.
Day clubs at pools, do it. (if going during summer months)
I always go to Bellagio's Sportbook. Caesars is huge but a cluster eff so i don't go there.
I love Vegas

Worth it tho, rite? :D
Might be there before but going sometime in April for sure. Looking for someplace new(er) to go to, preferably in mid-strip somewhere. Been a few years since last time I was there. Looking for what place has some nice set-up suites now :gocho:
Welp, maybe we can go to mexico again for the bachelor party.

Police said the shooting suspect, Benjamin Frazier, 41, of Las Vegas, opened fire about 5:45 a.m. in Bally’s, 3645 Las Vegas Boulevard South at Flamingo Road, after an argument at the entrance to Drai’s After Hours nightclub.
Frazier asked club security whether he could go in and preview the crowd before paying a $30 cover charge. Police said he decided to pay the cover and went inside but came out shortly afterward demanding a refund because the club wasn’t full.
...
Drai’s was moved temporarily to Bally’s earlier this year after Bill’s Gamblin’ Hall was closed to be converted into a 188-room luxury hotel-casino.
The club operated at Bill’s, which was formerly known as the Barbary Coast, as Drai’s After Hours, a late-night, early morning club and restaurant one level below the casino. The club is expected to return to its former location when Caesars Entertainment finishes its makeover next year. Operator Victor Drai is also developing a 65,000-square-foot rooftop pool area with a day club and nightclub facility.

Take A cab to Strip club, Sapphire Where I'm greeted by Frenchy from Rock of love
so i just read the entire thread word for word and it sounds like Aria is the best option. confirm?
I don't think choice of hotel on its own is too relevant to your vegas experience. If you have an idea what you're going to want to be doing, certain hotels could be better for the situation.
think I posted somewhere last year in March about the march madness watch parties. we did harrahs, and it was a blast. would definitely do something like that if youre there for it... im sure there are better options than harrahs. I think it was like $80 but it was unlimited booze and cheap food. they were all over the place.thatd be fun and well worth over spending 120 to go see a cirque show

we did Hoops & Hops at Cosmo. You get a wrist band and they had all kinds of all you can drink craft beer and booze. huge room with a giant screen in each corner and then 55 inch tvs spaced out between them. would put the audio on whatever game was close or coming to a close. put up a betting station right outside of the room. tons of round tables in the middle and theater seating along the outsides. I don't remember what it cost but it was super cheap for what you got and I think I saw they doubled the cost of it the next year. it was good to do for a day but I started to get cabin fevor and needed to get outside or at least into the sun by the end of it.

I would go nuts in the sports book. Like irresponsibly-max-out-creiditcards-mortgage-my-house crazy on betting the first two rounds. I intentionally never have been for that reason.
There are 4 different conference tourneys (WCC, WAC, MWC, PAC12) happening in Vegas the week I am there. :gocho:
rake, have you ever had Yayo Tacos just east of UNLV? Any good?
ill be down there the week of the NCAA tourney. probably going to see blue man group and maybe Britney. gonna spend a day at the hoover dam, too. probably wont do much gambling. has anyone ever been to the pawn stars place? might have to stop by for an hour or two.
Last year my buds and I picked the unders for a lot of random games. It was a complete blast getting irrationally excited for missed layups. Will probably do it again this year, #TeamNoBuckets.

go to pawn star place only if you're one of those people that likes to go to places just so you can tell others you've been there. as for hoover dam, only go if you're one of those people that likes to go to places just so you can tell others you've been there.
(pawn stars: they don't have much of the good stuff out; have fun looking at dumb memorabilia and small-timey fossils and stupid handguns)
(hoover dam: it's a gigantic dam and seeing it is not worth the opportunity cost of missing fun vegas time)
Flying out to vegas at 2pm today, bachelor party :driving: :driving: :driving:   .
My buddy is a pretty big gambler and got our rooms comped at the flamingo. I gave him a giant high five followed by a chest bump and then he dropped this line "Yeah, I've been talking with kelly as well and she may be able to hook us up with a table"
Doubt it happens but whatever, #1cat either way.

what's the scene like at excalibur tonight?
When I walked through Excalibur last time, I stumbled into some weird area with like 300 girls (and only girls) all dressed up in their skankiest of outfits at some pretty rinky-dink bar and was all holy crap wtf is this and then eventually figured out it was the waiting area for the next thunder down under show.
a good cheap documentary can be made by having 4 of us go to vegas for the busiest week of the year and we can't leave excalibur. that's a million dollars.

Do you happen to be going with some guys that you normally travel to do a fantasy football draft but this year you're just going to Vegas in October instead? Guy I know that went to KSU is doing that with his buds.
Hey guys. Now i'm going to vegas (unlike previous times, where I did not go). Flight's been booked. Need to find a hotel that isn't filthy. Suggestos?
Slightly cheaper.
nyny, treasure island or mandalay bay?
Going for my first time for a bachelor party the third week of March. We're staying at the Monte Carlo. Cannot wait.
I am bachelor partying in KC and my fiance is bacheloretting in Vegas. I am losing
Yeah, it's pretty narrow too. More stuff along the sides going on though. Agreed about getting lost. I drunkenly walked a hundred miles in MGM one night trying to stumble my way out.
going in mid-august for the first time. think we'll be at aria or the cosmo
Slightly cheaper.
K, settling on Monte Carlo. Where should I eat? Keep in mind I enjoy everything and need a $100-$150pp option, a $50pp option, and maybe a sushi place.I think it's very clear in this thread where Clams thinks you should go for sushi.
waks, i highly recommend spending the money on a march madness watch party.Tell me more...

Il mullino is a chain similar to sushi samba though. There was one at our hotel in Disney world.Yes, ate there. Wasn't bad.

Sushi samba (clams favorite) at palazzo or Venetian. Chain but not a big one.
Todd English Pub ($50 option) craft beer, great raw bar, gastropub
Demonico at Venetian (steak $150 option). Truffle chips. or Carnevino right there somewhere.
Prime at Bellagio has great steak, think I spent $90ish for myself, amazing meal
Javiers at Aria was good, maybe $130 for me and the wife? idk if it was really worth that much, we had a resort credit we used there
The Jean Phillipe fancy dessert place at Aria is awesome
Todd English is great
Dirt cheap and good pizza at Secret Pizza or Hidden Pizza at Cosmo ($10 or $12 for a couple slices, the place doesn't really have a name, it's just a pizza place hidden down a hallway on the second level up from the casino)
The restaurant at the Eiffel Tower is ok, not amazing, prob worth the price just for the cool view of the Bellagio fountains across the street
Mediterranean place downtown, can't remember the name, but great gyros, only open like normal city hours instead of 24/7 unfortunately
I always get one of those $1.99 foot long hot dogs at Casino Royale because it's a tradition for me. They are god awful
My favorite budget location is Planet Hollywood followed by Flamingo because I like the locations slightly better but Monte Carlo is decent too. I agree the casino feels too narrow and cramped BUT it is also very clean as clams referenced. We stayed at NYNY on our first trip and it's cheesy as hell but the rooms are decent, cheap and a good casino. I like to be further north if possible tho.
don't settle on monte carlo. just stay at mirage.
if your stay involves a weeknight (i.e., mon-thurs) you shouldn't have a problem getting a $150 room for half the price. there are decent bars in the casino, the sportsbook is the best on the strip, the burger joint is excellent, and imo, the mirage is THE best location on las vegas blvd.
there is a country bar next door at Treasure Island that is very fun. Gilley's, I think it is called. and I rough ridin' hate country bars. but it is fun, or at least it was fun when I went there. across the street, some of the cheaper beer can be found at the poor casinos (Quad, Casino Royale). CR still gives out $2 domestic bottles. grab several and walk the strip, stuff 'em in your pocket, etc. we used to just go there to refill.
o'shea's is also now located inside of the quad. very cool spot. they typically have live music, and it's pretty fun.

big fan of Casino Royale after getting pak'd. Cheap tables and I always seem to win there.
Secret pizza is a great place...really all those cosmo places are pretty tasty and good price. the MGM pub (forget the name) is good. Really nothing is good in the new linq area....tried the mexican place (chayo) and flour and barley and both are C at best. Ramseys BRGR at PH is nowhere close to worth the line. If you are Total Rewards platinum you can skip most of the line but still nothing great. B&B at Ventian was okay.
Place I always seem to end up due to the location, TVs, proximity to the sports bar, and ability to sit outside and watch the strip is PBR at Planet Hollywood. There is an EMAW that tends bar there that is a pretty good guy. Don't eat there.
iirc at vegas pak rusty bought either a 12 pack or case of coors light and carried it around the casino. I may not be remembering that correctly though.
iirc at vegas pak rusty bought either a 12 pack or case of coors light and carried it around the casino. I may not be remembering that correctly though.Yes, I have done this in the past. I also took a 30 pack to one of the pools one time. They wouldn't let me take the whole thing in but they let me leave it at the little front desk thing at the pool and bring them in six at a time. Would do again.

the cosmo one was called "hoops and hops" when I went. It was pretty great. was like $60 or so for the day and free drinks all day. best part was the betting window in the room away from the sports book so you didn't have to deal with lines. though they are a cantor book or whatever so you wouldn't have to deal with lines anyway I guess.Same deal last year. I paid a little more to sit in the balcony which is worth it IMO. Now they have the mobile gambling app so don't have to worry about the lines at the window which is sweet... And way to easy to bet dumb bets.
what was your favorite thing that happened, saul?I don't know, Tobias. Pretending to gamble the required amount to get free drinks at the bar? I'll admit, the pervy stuff was ok too.

A few bros and I are going to Vegas during the weekend of the Final Four. I've been to Vegas once before but only for a short time so I am far from knowledgable about the best places to go.
-We are staying at the Rio. (I realize this is a bit off the strip but we got the room for free so I can't complain about that)
- I we will want to find a sportsbook to watch and bet at during the semifinals and such. What recommendos would you have for a good book?
- What are the best spots for table games that have a relatively low minimum? I assume most casinos have about a $20 minimum on blackjack.
Guys, just got back from Las Vegas! Had a good time. ;)
I'll be at Aria 19th-22
I'll be at Aria 19th-22

I think saul is maybe there right this moment. we vacation right up against each other all the time.Drats!
I'll be at Aria 19th-22
I'm a fan of Casino Royale when looking for $1 Michelobs and low table minimums
Biggest rip off in Vegas - gambling. WHAT A WASTE OF TIME!
Second biggest rip off - Buffets. Even a supposedly "good" buffet (bellagio), still a buffet.
Best meal - dim sum cart, Noodles@Bellagio.
Second best meal - charcuterie@ Public House ( venetian )
Best Entertainment - Britney Spears @ Planet Hollywood, duh.

watching like 4 basketball games end in a span of 20 minutes at a sports book is pretty much the coolest thing ever. plus everyone is just getting super drunk.
Also, if someone asked me to pen a FSD post about vegas I would have said:
The best part about vegas is that, at any given bar in any given building within a half-mile of the strip, there are not less than 3 women who will suck your dick through a condom for cash.
Sports books are about 1/100th as cool as they sound, particularly when compared to the breadth and immediately availability of alternative adult entertainment in vegas.
So somehow Caesar Entertainment think's I am a big roller and is offering me all sorts of free crap despite never betting more than $25 (Maybe $50 in blackout stages) a hand at blackjack.
I was the best man at a bachelor party in Vegas about a year ago and booked rooms for everyone, as soon as I got back they started sending me Free Flight/Room Coupons for flights that go from KC -> Laughlin (With a stop over in GARDEN CITY to pick up more people). Never took them up on the offer but then a month ago some Caesar guy called me and basically said he was my "Member Relations guy", whatever, send me your contact info and I'll let you know if I need you.
I'm going to another bachelor party in vegas over labor day weekend so I emailed the guy. Boom, free room at Planet Hollywood/free show coups/free meal tickets/gambling matchplay etc.
:gocho:

don't watch it at a book. place your bets and go to the roof of Diablos and watch it. cheap pitchers and it's open air so you don't smell like an ashtray. also acceptable quality "nachos".
thoughts on going with a group of people and have everyone get one of these for the weekend

I'm envisioning a bunch of bros cruising around vegas on these things for a bachelor party and it's just breathtaking to behold

It's way more reasonable to stay in old Vegas. The strip is exciting, but when I went last month, one entree was like $30 and a beer was like $12. I highly recommend spending time there, it would honestly even be worth your time to take a cab there for lunch everyday if you are staying on the strip. Also, all of the history around old Vegas is cool. (I'd insert a gambling smiley here but there isn't one..)

You might already know this, but if one of your goals is to get boozed up while not at the tables/ slots and you want to save money stop by one of the shitty convenience shops about a half block to the north by the Fatburger. They've got $2.00 24 oz. monster beers for most brands. High Life and Pabst are 99 cents.
I know :kstategrad:, and you may be family tripping. Just a heads up.
Going to vegas with the GF next weekend, staying 2 nights and looking for some suggestions on things to do while we are there. My only experiences in Vegas are with my bro's where we binge drink and gamble 24/7.
She doesn't gamble much at all so specifically looking for interesting/fun things we can do during the day. We will probably go to the "shows" each night so I'm really just looking for stuff to do during the day besides go to the pool. We will be staying at Planet Hollywood.
Maybe take a cab downtown and walk around? ROLLER COASTER AT NYNY? Maybe a couples massage at the spa or something?
Latest Vegas restaurant reviews of new places hit this weekend.MonAmi Gabi is my favorite breakfast place in Vegas.
Border Grill / Caesars - Actually pretty good fresh ingredients. This is the 2nd locale on the strip (first being Mandalay). Had some temperature issues with some dishes but overall a fine option if looking for mexican on the strip. 3 Tacos
Mon Ami Gabi / Paris - I knew better than to go here but the draw of the patio was too strong. Not horrible but nothing great. 2 Tacos
White Castle / Casino Royale - Always a good choice at 3am. 4 Tacos
Tom's Urban / NYNY - Okay beer selection, good view, food wasn't up to expectations. 2.5 Tacos
Fizz / Caesars - 2 hour bottomless champagne session is a good way to get the night going. 4 Tacos
Martorano's / Paris - Large portions but nothing spectacular food quality wise. Good atmosphere for a group. 2.75 Tacos
Overlook Grill / Cosmo - Bottomless champagne, good views of the pool, fairly good food. 3.25 tacos
Centurion Lounge / LAS - In new D terminal. Pretty solid food and booze choices. Really quiet which was disturbing. 4 tacos
I need some slap hands buddies for the big royals win tonight.
I'd watch it at emerils sports book
the breakfast at bouchon is pretty damn goodWhere is that? I may try it. My favorite breakfast is in the Paris Hotel called Mon Ami Gabi. Great breakfast.

I'll be there in a couple of weeks for the rock n roll run on the strip.
Give me an idea of what we are talking about.I'll be there in a couple of weeks for the rock n roll run on the strip.
Would you be up for swinging by the Mandalay Bay to mule in my three bets on the Royals that I made at the Mandalay Bay last April? No prob if you aren't comfortable with that. I'd pay you though!

I wouldn't expect you to pay me anything I'd it doesn't cost me anything. Do I need to pay them something upfront?
I'd be glad to do that for you. Just tell me what to do and I'm there. I get back the Tuesday following the run.

This is serendipitous, because I was just talking to my wife about how I didn't know how I was going to get these winnings....and I was NOT interested in heading out to Vegas for a weekend thing or anything like that at this point...maybe in a year or so, but not good timing for me right now. ;)

...another goEMAW miracle! :fistpump:I've witnessed a couple of those.
This thread is too long for me to piece together useful info for this: I'm flying in and out of their airport and only staying in the city overnight (en route to the national park loop). I want to stay on the strip so I can walk around, look at crap there, and eat. Any hotel recommendations? Tips? How do I help ensure that I won't be in a gross room?If you are just staying one night have you considered just checking your bag at any of the casinos with the concierge? Then you can move about freely and just collect your bag when you are ready to head back to the airport. I'm not sure what they would charge if you are not a guest, I flew in early morning and couldn't check in until late afternoon. They just held my bag for about seven hours.
I am going to stay at Paris because it is obviously the cleanest and the fanciest and one of the least expensive and not gross at all and also has all of the coolest stuff. The Paris has two of my favorite eating spots, both very pricey, but worth it to me. Mon Ami Gabi has a great menu, and the Eiffel Tower Restaurant is a great place to eat and look out for a nice evening meal. It will set you back about $100 for a basic meal with no alcohol.
If doing a hotel, go flamingo if you just want a cheap good location room. Stay at Cosmo or Aria for a good room in a good location.
I can rarely understand the rates as well.If doing a hotel, go flamingo if you just want a cheap good location room. Stay at Cosmo or Aria for a good room in a good location.
One of my issues is with understanding the rates. Flamingo says $35. Everything I've ever learned in life tells me this means that many gross things happen in those rooms. I'll check out the other two.
Resort fees suck. You will pay them everywhere and won't be told about it in your quoted rate. It's a real screw job. Usually covers wifi, gym....My wifi was not covered by the resort fee.

I don't think vdara has gambling, if you were wanting to be sure you could be in bed 5 minutes after you get up from a table. Bellagio will be more vegas-y, both itself and what's closest. Aria probably best combo of all the stuff you'd care about.
Make sure you're maxing out hyatt/mlife prospects. I assume you are since all 3 you listed were mlife spots.

Yeah..it goes along with the convo we had on the way to the airport last week. Probably a bad use of Hyatt nights, but the quick getaway deal works for us.
And if not in this thread, check the credit card thread from around that same timespan.
Just registered with MLife and sent them an email about the matched status with Hyatt. Link on Hyatt's website wasn't working to sync up the accounts. :curse:
you gonna listen to the guy who was in vegas like 3 weeks ago or the one who was there less than a week ago, i mean come on

Weird because of the tourney? Maybe I'm crazy, but I don't see us getting a huge boost from it. Guess we'll see.
Eh. Even if it is super busy, life will go on without me there. There are 4 other owners that can handle a disaster if they need to. Plus two managers that have worked there for 6 months. If they can't handle crap by now I'm doing something wrong.weird weekend to leave town for vegasI didn't plan it. Cousins bachelor party.

ya i figured it would be the busiest week/end of the year for most places down there.
maybe not? i likened it to owning a fringe plaza bar and leaving the weekend of the art fair but maybe i'm overestimating how far people stray from the P&L itself.

when did a mile long walk become the crossing of the red sea? i mean, good grief, they're visiting KC from out of town, the last thing we'd want them to see is anything but the inside of the P&L Living Room.I mean, I agree with you. But, overweight Iowans typically don't want to walk more than a block or 2 to get their chicken fingers and honey mustard sauce...
A 10 block walk is like a mile, that's a bad recommendation.

Welcome to kc...we hate density. Problem is most great places are a 5 to 10 block walk.... Which is one of the great things the streetcar will pull these places together.
Don't worry, I have my 2 block away recommendations of yard house, etc locked and loaded...you can usually judge what the person is looking for prior to them saying a word.

well I mean crown center is 10 blocks from sprint center, it's pretty sad if you have to tell someone to walk that far for a good restaurant. I'd also look at you like you're an idiot if you told me to walk that far in the economic center of the region for anything decent. Maybe downtown needs more tax incentives? geez.
I'm just pointing out that that's a fairly long walk and ask you to not look at everyone who raises an eyebrow at that distance as some dumb fat Iowan or western Kansan who can't understand the suave and sophisticated urban lifestyle. I mean, you can do it, it's just not a good look.A 10 block walk is like a mile, that's a bad recommendation.

Maybe we should continue in the KC things thread? One glaring but most frequent example. People ask where to get bbq. Well until this year the only two options were both 8-10 blocks away. Plowboys is now closer but only open for lunch.
This whole concept is one of the reasons behind a 2 mile streetcar. Make this 30 block downtown more accessible for those not wanting to walk a mile.

I wish I knew how to bet horses like KCFD does... Dang.Haha I just gave my friend $100 and told him to bet for me. We split what we won evenly.
Also off topic but any chance of doubleshift opening earlier on Friday? Went there for an early happy hour and had to slum it at grinders until 4pm.

Maybe, I dunno how much biz we'd get earlier than 4. Normal weekends it's dead until 5:30 on Fri. I'll consider it though!

I sent a couple sets of fans your way earlier Friday like noon ... They were both looking for breweries... So I felt bad when I got down there around 3 and saw you and border weren't open till 4...im sure grinders took care of them.

Did you carve out some time for the vegas fight tour?
First timer spending one night on the strip on the way back from Zion in a couple of weeks.
Haven't booked a hotel yet. Hoping that Aria drops to something reasonable, but does anyone have any experience with/thoughts on the Cromwell. Looks centrally located and seems flamboyant enough for the "true" Vegas experience.
Don't have much interest in gambling, aside from placing a stupid futures bet on the 'cats and Royals, how should we spend our time? 85% convinced on seeing Love. Worth it? Best way to buy tickets? Looks like Stubhub to me.

Kinda old news, but if you're trying to dupe a Caesars Entertainment Property into free drinks in the slot area, good luck. They keep track of how much you've gambled and won't give you booze util you've hit the target amount. This should be illegal. Them not you.

Going in a couple weeks for our annual college football pilgrimage w/ CAS and Hoochcat (gonna try to get out to Southpoint this time and hunt for Mussy).Bally's Sterling brunch. Never been but hear it's pretty awesome.
Last year, we got the buffet at Ceasar's and were pretty unimpressed. Any elite food recommendos? CAS requires that wherever we go serve prime rib.

Going opening weekend of NCAA bball tourney. Might hit Phoenix en route for some Royals and golf.I assume you've nailed down where you'll be watching/betting? I'd recommend doing some research into getting one of the book's apps that allow you to make a deposit at the book and make bets from your phone. It'll save you ages waiting in line at the cage. I know Ceasar's does this. I assume most of the other ones do as well. Might consider doing it at the Westgate if you're into the exotic stuff (and don't mind the ~10 minute drive off the strip).

I'm surprised that sort of thing is still as popular as it is with how easy it is to gamble and watch lots of games in one place almost anywhere in america.Worth it for the shared experience of being in the sportsbook when you have something like the end of Vikings - Saints and whether or not they would kick the final extra point for an impossible cover.

True. I think the move is to make the bet, go to the pool and pak or whatever fun vegas thing you choose, and go back to the sportsbook area to peek in at the end of the game if it's close.

nothing quite like watching one of the most exciting plays in nfl playoffs history with a bunch of random degenerates in a packed vegas sportsbook

I was at a $1/$3 poker table last year at the Wynn w/ a guy that had $80k tied up in 4 different bets. He didn't give a rats ass about what was happening in the poker game. We were all rooting for him to win his bets.
@pissclams seems to hate gambling. this hurts my feelings.it’s only gambling when you have a shot at winning
Sure he can drink his liver into a comma
I care for it shitloads for about 72 hours about once a year and then also do not care for it at all the restAgreed....sometimes twice a year. Seems like a miserable place to live.

Ever stayed at the cosmo before? gE.c user Dumdeedum has stayed there before and really hated it because the nightclub was too loud. he claimed he could hear the bass anywhere in the hotel.
i've stayed there and didn't notice anything.

the truth is that vegas is a dirty town filled with dirty people living broken dreams. behind the neon sits a truly sad place that I don’t care for at all.

I've done the hoops party twice. we only do it one day each time. it would wear me out being in the dark all day for the entire trip.

Going for the first time in 2 years this weekend, will be with my buddy and his dad. Tentative plan is to gamble and booze the entire time but we could end up boozing and gambling.

I was there two weekends ago with some family for my brother in law's 40th bday - so it was a little lower-key. Stayed at MGM (which must be the biggest hotel in the world).
We went down to Fremont on Friday night. I had an absolute blast down there. Gambling on the strip is hard -- what with the $25-$50 minimums at most tables. I could stomach that if my friends were dead set on it, but my family definitely wasn't. There are much more casual minimums at Fremont. Plus it's still a pretty crazy atmosphere down there.
Went to some exotic gun range and shot some crazy guns -- way more fun than I expected it to be. Also saw Absinthe -- which was great.

fremont is bitb, i'm glad me and dlew see I2I on this oneIt's the perfect place for a 20 something to go out and get torn up at. 20 somethings have no business gambling on the strip.
new york new york is where I play low limit blackjack while a 7+. I close one eye to focus on the cards. then both to look around the room. then back to one eye to look at my cards again because I've forgotten what I have. repeat to infinity. That's a good sig move.
I've never played poker in a casino. I don't think I'm any good at it, and those people would eat me alive. I stick exclusively to BJ and craps.fremont is bitb, i'm glad me and dlew see I2I on this oneIt's the perfect place for a 20 something to go out and get torn up at. 20 somethings have no business gambling on the strip.
I always thought Fremont was where the olds went when they couldn't walk the strip?Weren't very many olds when I went downtown. It was really a pretty raucous environment. Tons of people boozing in the street. 4 or 5 pretty impressive stages with bands playing. People zooming by in the zipline overhead with the big light up ceiling thing. Maybe things were different back in the '90s gramps . And yeah, when I was talking about how the strip's casinos were really expensive, I wasn't talking about the casino at the best western. Hooters (which I also played at last week) also has some low minimums.
You can find low table minimums all over the strip...casino Royale is my personal fave for low minimums
I've done pretty well playing poker at a casino. Unless you're playing in some high limit game, I think it is mostly tourists.I should also mention that I don't like playing poker. I get bored with it very quickly. Probably because I'm a millennial.
I like pai gow :shy:

it's super easy and low risk (like no matter how dumb you are the dealer will not let you do something stupid).
I like it when they say that they have loose slots. I like it even more when they say they have the loosest slots in town.

Was the shuttle running at Zion or did you get to drive in the main canyon? Hike any?
Trip coming up this January with the mrs. and looking for recommendos.
Scenario: Planning to stay in Cesar's palace and would prefer to stick around the strip.
Things we want to do:
-One of the cirque shows (already seen O)
-Magician, comedian, both?
-FOOOOOD (got a food tour lined up already for one evening)
-Sports gambling (it's NFC/AFC conference championship weekend!)
-Texas Hold 'em tournaments
-Cheap table games
GO!
Piff is a good magician and comedian.
I don't know why you're doing a food tour just one night but Mon Ami Gabi in Paris was a random excellent meal we had that didn't require reservations far in advance. (I'd recommend figuring out where you want to eat and make reservations early).

Now those are some hot tips!
Is there like no chance of getting a seat at Cesar’s without a reservation? Ideally I’d like to take in a little bit of the atmosphere but mostly just place a few bets and monitor the games while doing other stuff (with the ability to peak in if something gets exciting). I don’t necessarily want to be glued to the TV unless the Chiefs are in the AFC championship game.

So you have to be in the casino to place a bet & collect using the app?
That's fair about the energy thing. I just like poker because I can sit there with my $ longer. I usually can find a few buds at the table who like to joke around and talk about the game. We kinda lol at the guy in the corner taking the game way too seriously.
Rake, any NCAA tourney Vegas pro-tips? Planning to go next spring
i feel like such a mark for not utilizing that $20 trick.

the most optimal time to do it is when staying by yourself on a weekday (monday to thursday). almost no vegas hotel is fully booked and they always have upgraded rooms available. the best rooms are king only, so if you need two queens, you're probably gonna be disappointed in your upgrade most of the time.
the most common upgrades are higher floor (which i hate) and better view (i rarely even open the windows), but every once in a while you strike gold and get the admiral suite or something badass.
I'm terrified of the desk clerk looking at the $20 bill and thinking "wtf is this, peasant" and flipping it back at me and the rest of the check in process is extremely awkward.
And now the m-life app does mobile check in/mobile key so I get to avoid all of that anyways

Do you think slipping a $100 is 5x as successful/more valuable? What about starting at a suite level and then hoping to get something outrageous? I skimmed, but wanted to ask the expert.
I will say that I have used the tip $20 thing a few times in my life and it has been incred
-no reservation at a restaurant in Chicago with a party of 6 and got seated within 15 min
-got a reserved room at a hotel bar which normally was several hundred for $40 with two tips
My wife told the desk at the Park MGM that it was her birthday and they gave us like $100 in food and drink

I'm sure it actually was her birthday, but that reminds me of a related and relatively innocent con when traveling with your wife, partner, sig other, or just friend, which is to tell them you're there to celebrate your anniversary. Wow!

Ok Vegas pros: pregnant wife, celebrating anniversary, but cheap room and overall cheap appearance probably. How do I maximize the check in experience? $20? $40? Fake contractions?
Those kiosks give you the absolute worst room of whatever room type you booked....

In what way? I mean when you get in before 9AM on a Friday, and normal check in time is 3PM, are you really gonna be that picky. I know you’re an airport dork, do you just stay there? I want to lay my luggage down, who gaf if you are 5 floors higher

a bunch of us went for a CFB saturday about six weeks ago, we paid $144 per seat, which reserves your spot for the day. virtually every seat was reserved and there wasn't much for the general public until much later in the day, when there were just a handful of games left.
you can see the reservation prices here, it looks like NFL playoffs is priced similarly: https://www.caesars.com/caesars-palace/casino/race-and-sports-book#.XBKEjZNKjR0
honestly, between the long sportsbook lines, the good-not-great service, and the lack of food options (you have to walk to the food court about 250 yards away), i'd put the caesars experience solidly behind a few of the others on the list.
we went to westgate the next day for NFL sunday. we got a VIP booth for i want to say $700, but the entire cost of the box goes toward food and beverage. we had seven of us, stuffed our face with food from 10am to 4pm, drank from beginning to end, and still didn't use up the allotment. service was great, seating was great, views were great, atmosphere was great. but again, a box isn't necessary to enjoy westgate; you'll find good enough seating on your own.
here's a decent overview of various books on the strip: https://vegashax.com/2018/09/10/best-sportsbooks-for-football/
the books that i personally like to support in town are south point and westgate. both have top-notch staffs who focus on customer service and aren't trying to nickel-and-dime their guests to death. i understand why many books (not just caesars) are going the reserve-a-seat route (caesars, for example, can profit roughly 50k per football weekend on reserved seats if they sell out), but like most decisions casinos in town are making, these are short-sighted moves that are turning people away.
there are lots of guys (and gals potentially!), similar to myself, who go to vegas primarily to bet sports and watch games - particularly if it's a big sports weekend. but between paying (constantly rising) resort fees, paying for WiFi, paying for daily parking, paying for a seat in the sportsbook, paying for drinks (small bets used to get you a handful of drinks; now at many properties $200 gets you one drink ticket), many people are deciding they'd rather just go to a bar.
they'll still get my money because i'm a sicko, but just pointing out the error of their ways.
Almost all the bar slot machines have that in every casino I hear....indont play slots though so not positive
The sports betting/drink tickets and poker comps are pretty bad now too. Sad.

yeah, we were playing the automated roulette. But they were expanding it across all games.

my point was that it's not just Caesars...which is how I read your post.

Yeah for sportsbooks Westgate was the last one close to the strip that did free drinks....went to tickets a few years ago.
Can usually get 2-3 if you bet at least $50 on games at a time and throw the ticket writers a tip. Real shame.
or, you can skip all of the above and just buy drinks like a regular person, which isn't so bad.

easiest way to get drink tickets, if you are so inclined, is to:
a) bet horses (lay a big favorite in a small field for a couple of bucks). most places will accommodate, and you'll have a chance of getting your money back and then some on the bet.
b) bet a smallish amount on a sports game, tip the ticket writer a couple of bucks, and then ask: "hey, do you guys still do drink tickets?" they'll probably throw one or two your way (they're stuck in a tough position if they don't.)
c) sit next to someone in the book who has a bunch of drink tickets on the arm rest of their chair. these people very likely made big bets, or many bets, to accumulate that many tickets. they'll give away the unused ones before they leave (i give mine away all the time), as they are only good on the same day.
an even better way is to line shop at two different books for the best prices on the same game and bet a lot on both sides. for example, let's say there's a Yankees-Athletics game. Caesars has Yankees -120 and MGM (next door) has Athletics +121. This sort of arbitrage - or something close to it - is not uncommon, especially on marquee games or if there's a big recent line move offshore.
So you can lay $1200 to win $1000 on Yankees at Caesars - and collect all your drink tickets; and you can lay $1000 to win $1210 at MGM on the A's - and collect all your drink tickets. Now you've got a handful of free drinks and you'll either break even (if the Yanks win) or win $10 (if the A's win). You can also do this with sides or totals in football and hoops, or basically any other point-spread sport, but you'll want to a) leave open the possibility of a push/middle (likely just a 5% proposition, admittedly) and b) lay the lowest possible vig you can and perhaps gamble to one side over the other.
or, you can skip all of the above and just buy drinks like a regular person, which isn't so bad.
Is it bad when I watch newer movies about Vegas and I know exactly the casino just by the casino floor? Have I REALLY made it?
Will be there Monday-Thursday(5-8) this coming week. As I had thought, everything is open and I am chipped and ready for some pool/gambling action.

The food court at the Cosmo has good options from Hattie B's to a David Chang place. Not anything that you have to hit but if you're in the area and want a quick lunch, there are great options. Momofuku is there too which is very very good.we’re staying at the palazzo but yeah momofuku

flying to vegas today for meetings this week. staying at encore. dinners at Tao and Lakeside. meetings at the wynn/encore. 5 or more years ago I'd have been absolutely stoked for this and try to add on a couple days to the end of this week but I'm dreading it. also my wife is having to pull double duty with swim/basketball/baseball/dance logistics and that makes me feel guilty. also I'll get back and obviously be absolutely worthless for a day because I'll be exhausted and that will make me feel more guilty.

Looks like it’s the 12-year anniversary of vegasPAK.I could not be having a more opposite trip. That said:
Vegas sucks incredible amounts of ass. Fly out today and hope to never go back. Also I got to golf two (2) holes with Colin Morikawa and golf also sucks huge ass but he is very chill/cool and I now only cheer for him until Tiger is back.

The frequency of Vegas visits hasn't changed so hard to know when that flag flipped. I assume awhile ago
