The detail I most remember about this is multiple mentions of poop on the street.
I saw human crap at least twice on my ten minute walk to work this morning. I almost stopped to take photos but decided against it.

Mahoney's is one of two alley crews that are constantly engaged in steam-cleaning the streets. They work eight-hour shifts, five days a week, refilling their 250-gallon spray tank two or three times a day.And they can't keep up.http://m.sfgate.com/bayarea/nevius/article/Funds-short-for-S-F-s-No-1-and-No-2-issue-5479025.php
consulting chef Jamie Lauren commented that "I hate to call [Bandidos' cuisine] white people Mexican food, but it is,"
"It was never the most popular ethnic slur, but I'm familiar with that term being used as a slur from those old movies in the '30s and '40s, where all the villains were Mexican. Even some younger Latinos might think that think this is stupid, but it's because they never had to live with that. Older Latino activists fought so that name wouldn't be used."
