love the stuff, all of it. hard, beer, wine, you name it. However, if I decide to have a 'few' drinks one night, I wake up feeling like crap and will feel like crap until I go to bed the next day. It doesn't take more than 2 or 3 drinks for me to feel it the next day. This is what keeps me from habitually drinking. And I'm only 23......and I'm sure it gets worse. but I guess this should go in the 'hangovers' thread and I should be praising the greatness of booze. cheers :cheers:
Incorrect. It gets easier because your body becomes more tolerant. You get better at having a few at night and answering the bell in the morning.

i don't like malbecs. or at least i haven't really liked any malbecs i've tried. haven't tried a bunch. not a big fan of anything south american really.
big fan of grenache and grenache blends, mostly spanish and french. nothing high alcohol%. also lightweight italians, don't know the grapes. mostly cava on the sparkling side, vinho verde in the summer, prosseco and french, but usually just when i see something that looks like a good deal. cava usually has a better price/quality ratio.
i also drink a lot of cheap wine, just cause it's cheap.
i can name a few brands, etc. if those taste profiles sound something like yours. keep in mind i'm cheap. i'm not going to give you great wine recs. but i can recommend good wines at good prices.

I've given this spiel a handful of times and probably have on this board, but scotch is the only alcohol where I can take a sip of a $50 bottle and a sip of a $250 bottle and say "Yup, this $250 bottle taste about 5x better". No way I could do that with wine. A $5 bottle and $2000 bottle would taste identical to me. Sometimes I can do it with beer, but most of that comes from buying a fancy looking 750ml bottle, not necessarily the taste. Gin, possibly, but I've never had a bottle of gin that cost more than $60 so I wouldn't know for sure.
Scotch, man. What a beverage.

For this reason, I appreciate that Southern Comfort took the time to put out a 100 proof that tastes the same to me in coke.
Also, I love red wine. I found an inexpensive Petite Syrah from Castle Rock recently that is really good. I don't like other petite syrah or the non-petite version of syrah(don't know what the supposed diff is).
With wine, its the bottle or nothing. I don't drink wine more than once every 1 or 2 weeks and I don't want half a bottle going bad before I get to drink the rest of it. I usually drink the second half of the bottle right out of the bottle.

it's not true. petit syrah is a different type (clone) of grape. it's called petit syrah because the grapes are small. it's used to blend a lot because it imparts a ton of color and tannins because of the high surface/volume ratio, not used as a stand alone varietal much, except by winemakers that are either showing off, or have a lot of extra petit syrah planted.

That seems like a dangerous way to go about it. I would suggest bringing your baseline level up during the week. It's like stretching before you play sports, you don't just jump in and expect to play at a high level and not get hurt. It's the same for drinking.

Rogue sucks. Absolutely never ever try their maple bacon ale. A friend of mine bought it. It's ten times worse than it sounds.2 dead guy ales down and a snow day on its way to meet them!
I have enjoyed snow day this year. I find Rogue brews far too pricey for what they actually bring to the table.

guys, 2pm - i think i'll start with a nice starter beer (miller lite or shock top) then move to Tank 7 or bobs 47. then i'll move to liquor, probably some jameson and water. America.
I like to go the other direction. Start with the quality beer, then move to liquor, then land on the cheap miller lite. That way you really enjoy the quality beer, by the time I land on the miller lite I don't give a crap if its good or watery.

Just got back to mhk, considering going to Aggieville and sitting by myself at the bar on Christmas just to sees what it is like. Probably not the same depressing effect after returning from three days of family Christmas gatherings, though.

When the original FTB shirts were up on gpc, some guy there that works at GTM posted that they were working on setting up something similar to cafepress.
Trim, the Baron Davis ones have been up there since I started mine. They have a website as well. I'm pretty sure the guys that are selling them have the trademark on "Fear the Beard".

Yea I'll stop just to lose enough lbs to gain them back at the lake this summer. It's a vicious cycle.

Planning to binge tonight after I get off work, since it's Friday. I'll probably start with a few glasses of wine (most likely red of some kind), then have a couple of gin and tonics and lastly a scotch or three on the rocks for dessert.

love the stuff, all of it. hard,beer, wine,you name it. However, if I decide to have a 'few' drinks one night, I wake up feeling like crap and will feel like crap until I go to bed the next day. It doesn't take more than 2 or 3 drinks for me to feel it the next day. This is what keeps me from habitually drinking. And I'm only 23......and I'm sure it gets worse. but I guess this should go in the 'hangovers' thread and I should be praising the greatness of booze. cheers :cheers:

Soda water is the best elite gin mixer. If your mixing Bombay Saphire, Tanqueray, or Hendricks with tonic water, then good grief, go buy some Barton's and save yourself some money.

Goes in phases. Lately I've been on a 1:1 with Sprite. Usually I'll mix it with a random soda until I throw up from it one too many times, then it's onto another soda.

Cns, instead of going straight to on the rocks (which you won't like right now), just start making your drinks stronger each time until you get to where you just have a splash of soda. When you get to that point you'll be able to taste the difference in bourbons and enjoy them more

the bartender at mae's last night made fun of some guy for ordering 1776 and coke. it made me smile.
anyway, i can fully taste different vodkas when mixed. i don't like greygoose or absolut. love stoli and tito's. ketel one is meh, and the cheap stuff doesn't bother me.
in other whiskey news, i was at the casino a few weeks ago and was getting rum and diets and was half paked after a few and noticed they started tasting weird for like 3 of them and the waitress comes around and she's like "another jack and coke?" and that's when i realized why they tasted weird, but couldn't put my finger on it.

Gotcha. I will say that I can definitely taste the Jack quite a bit over the coke to the point where the coke is pretty much just making it sweet.
I have to try the on the rocks I guess. Would save a bunch of calories that way.

It's a half decent attempt at both, but it isn't quite there, IMO. For summer beers, I like more of the citrusy hoppy flavor like Odell St. Lupulin or Boulevard 80 Acre.
I'm not hating on it, I was just fairly underwhelmed. I've enjoyed it before, it's just not an every time thing.

It all depends on how long you need to leave your vehicle parked. A lot of the time, it is about a wash to get picked up and dropped off at the airport vs. long term parking.

I thought this until I was 24, then I decided I liked having a drink or two about an hour for bed. I've been reconsidering it lately, but only because I've been wanting to get in shape.

"Processed" indicates a step beyond butchering. For example we made hamburger, sausage, and jerky. I guess you could say we butchered him first. Not sure why butchering an animal is disgusting anyway? It's just meat.

hey tobias and chingon. i finished the costco bottle but when i went to replace, they had beefeaters on sale so i bought that. but it turns out i like the costco brand better. it has stronger juniper and a very nice shade of green glass bottle instead of clear glass.

That stuff tastes HORRIBLE. The bottle says you can refill it a few times, it doesn't ever taste better though.

i have verified results that say if you drink when you’re sick that the alcohol will kill the germs in your blood and make you healthy. this study is a copycat job on my original study.

Some weeks I am too busy to squeeze in my two nightly drinks. I am typically pretty good and making up the ground over the weekend though. I even try to bank a few extra just to be safe.
