carl bergstrom had a good thread on the general theme of "good news" in epidemiology a while back.
there is good news that is good news like when a new drug is found to be effective, or something like that. but with regard to the biology of the virus there is no good news. because the results are what they are. they're already known. so if you find out that some virus is less infectious than you thought, that just means that it is more virulent. or the reverse. or if some % of the population is immune, then the virus is even more infectious or more deadly to those that aren't.
when you already have the sum, there's no reason to celebrate if some component part of that sum is less than previously estimated.
