Well it is manhood time. I think the marquee match up is Wade against Romello White who we recruited. I hope Brown can stymie their one stud guard. Some better bench play will be needed than last night.

Team landed in Vegas this evening. Probs jetlagged in Oscar's world

Always liked their unis. Too bad they were in trash New Jersey.

UC Irvine coach Murphy:
“Honestly, if I were just a casual fan in Las Vegas, this is a game that I personally would buy a ticket for,” Northern Arizona coach Jack Murphy said of the Kansas State contest.
Along with UC Irvine coach Russell Turner, Murphy has played both the Sun Devils and Wildcats this season.
“Both teams, for the most part, are led by their guards," Murphy continued, "and I think it’s very intriguing to see what Holder and Shannon Evans and the ASU guards can do against the really stout defensive guards of K-State. It’s a really good matchup.”
“Arizona State played at a really great level against us, and we weren’t able to really make it that much of a game,” Turner said. “We did come back in the second half, but I don’t think we ever threatened them, and that was a credit to their senior guards. But I think that will be hard for them to replicate against Kansas State because Kansas State is excellent defensively.”
Are the Sun Devils legit NCAA Tournament contenders? They look the part. Senior guard Tra Holder – the Pac-12 Player of the Week – has been outstanding. Senior guard Shannon Evans has been equal parts play-maker and scorer. And redshirt-freshman forward Romello White has been as advertised, strong in the post.

Cross post as The Flush's team but new article from K-Dawg. http://amp.kansas.com/sports/college/big-12/kansas-state/article186040698.html

Me too, Greg.
Only downside is because of Thanksgiving I have to watch it with my squawk brother-in-law.

I'm excited for this game. I want to see if we really might be decent.
-
someone (the fball link guy?) please collocate a link to today's cats game here. i would like to watch some or all of the game today.

I hope your Cowboys luck doesn't carry.
-
Holy Cow. First time black shopping ever. Target. Trying to coax maw.out the door to listen to the game. oscar is happy .... this is a very good sign. Man it is tough being in love.
-
The Orleans environment looks different from how I remember it.
-
goddamnit.
-
goddamnit.
Devildammit
-
We seem to have decent depth.
-
Watching our offense is painful even when it's working. That Justice guy is pretty scuzzy. Refs seem shitty.
-
ASU has some shitty uniforms. That yellow stripe is brutal.

It's pretty crazy that Frank-era EMAW showed what the perfect hoops uniform should look like and uniform makers continue to make the opposite of those.
-
Of course that Justice dude is from Mesa. I imagine every good player from suburban Phoenix looks and acts like that
-
oscar is still running small ball, neither Dean or X is on the floor with 4 minutes left. Smdh

This team is exactly who I thought they were
-
Can't wait for the brucecuses
-
Can't rebound, play defense or take care of the ball. Weak Oscarball.
-
This defense will get destroyed by teams who make a pass after our first rotation. We seem pretty bad at it.
-
:flush:
-
Refs were pretty shitty
-
We foul like a Frank team without the same effect.
-
Not sure I’ve ever seen this kind of FT disparity.
oscar seems bad at getting in the refs ear about that kind of thing.
-
Offense rebounds killed us. Also, it pisses me off when oscar calls timeouts when we grab momentum.
-
refs were crap...worst one was the wainwright blockout foul...but this game also shows that we have nothing close to Westicles on defense...
-

I thought maybe he did it to bring Wade and Sneed back in, but no he was "coaching."

I recall several such timeouts last year, one specifically in the Baylor game that completely swing momentum back to the other team.
-
i did like the mental toughness of the perimeter guys
-
I don’t have many complaints. The 3% shooting from both teams was pretty ridiculous. That Justice guy has probably the most punchable face I’ve ever seen so good for our guys showing restraint there.
FTs were obviously the difference, and you just don’t know how the refs are going to call most of the inside stuff. Obviously when we were playing puds the calls went in our favor.
-
-
I can't believe we still had a chance to win after all of that
-
No idea if ASU is any good, but I think we’re ok. We probably won’t ever see another team shoot that many FTs in a game.
-
Yep we aren’t any good
-
I also appreciated that Brown got exactly what he wanted with the game on the line. He makes that layup 8/10 times.
-
Hell of a game and come back by our Basket Cats especially considering the awful foul disparity. The traveling no call in the last minute was rough ridin' ridiculous. We sure suck at rebounding, however. That is going to kill us this season.
-
Can’t blame the lack of rebounds given how they were calling the game. We would have had plenty more rebounds if there were fewer whistles.
And yea, no clue how you miss that traveling call.
-
The Kam blowing shots has to stop. Draw up a post play, that were under utilized all game. If i had a dollar for all the times a post player was open on the block I would have about 8 dollars

We were pretty close.
-
AsU picked 7th in Pac 12, nothing special. Attempting 32 three's (made 15) direct result was nothing in paint and no free throws. Typical Oscar loss
-
I quit watching when we were down 7. No regrets
-
Diarra is a turnover machine, bad refs
-
If that game was played one year from now we win easy.
-
Same crap, different year. We won’t shoot that well again all year. What a waste. So sick of it.

Offense was not the problem.

Correct

Holy crap that officiating was butt
-
So much for the great defense.
Wade is still soft. Won't drive in critical situation. Had an opening to drive the lane but passed back to Brown.

Uh oh. Tucknation will be @in me.

The first time since advanced stats (2002) that a K-State team has scored 1.3 ppp or better and lost.
Wade has to score more and Diarra had some really dumb TOs.

I forgot how much Basketball officiating pisses me off.
Also, screw Kodi Justice, cocky punk.
-
If it’s on TV, I will watch every ASU game from now on just waiting for his clock to get cleaned.
-
2nd half, Wade had layup attempt off a nice pass. Initiated a little contact. Missed the layup off the glass. About 20 seconds later, their big had almost exact same scenario, but he finished and drew the foul on Dean. This kinda summed up Wade's poor 2nd half where he was on the bench in foul trouble or on the court doing nothing after Halftime.
When you allow 18 2nd Chance pts and grab only 7 Defensive Rebounds (what we did after Halftime), it's a huge recepie for disaster. Combine that with our fouls, refs calling tight game, and their 18-31 FT shooing in the 2nd....and you have a very poor Defensive statsheet
-

Man, this is absolutely perfect.

They gave him the ball at 91-90 and was no threat to score, didn't even try, that's inexcusable.

That's been his game since day 1. I wish we had a coach to get him aggressive. So much wasted potential there.
-
I corrected the individual stats above. Wade's involvement was poor. He should never be under 10 points per 100 possessions he plays.

With out the foul trouble he is flirting with a triple double. Dean and Sneed need to stay on the court for defense and rebounding.
I think we will be fine, defense will get cleaner specially the benches D. The issue is the margin for error with our schedule is so small.
-
Fan, thanks for the stats.
Rebounding and fouls in the second half.
And the foul trouble on Wade, Sneed and Mawien. Mawien fouled out in 14 minutes and he was out most effective inside player tonight. Sallah and Stockard were no match for ASU's big men.
-
Claws had 7 assists, seems like these were in the 1st half. Again when plays timid due to fouls kind of poor. There are some positives, mainly guards and Sneed. Meats have to do better. Romello White beat their drum like a thunderstorm. Diarra ain't ready to be first guard sub, Wainright is my pick. Fan why did we foul so much? I listened and it has to be more than poor refs. Sounds like rebound positioning lessons are needed. Hope to have better defense against next team.
-
Wade really does need to get some swagger ASAP. He’s a liability out there when he’s timid.
-
Weber just sucks at people. Refs are people.
-
i think the only hope for Wade is to grow an ironic mustache and see if that changes things
-
Fan, The 124% free throw rate in the second half caught my attention. What exactly does that stat mean? Thanks
Never mind. I found the definition. I think we had our work cut out for us to win this game since so many of the fouls came on us trying to get rebound position. I quess we're slow learners.
"FTr = (FTA / FGA). Free throw rate is the ratio of free throws attempted per field goal attempted. It's useful to assess where the bulk of a player's shots are coming from -- low ratios usually indicate a lot of jump shots (fouls are less prevalent the further away from the basket you get), while high rates are the province of inside players who often take strong shots in traffic down low.

How did the Play Hard Chart turn out?
-
Year Six (6): We're So Close!
-
i mean, brown, wade, and stokes are only juniors. i think by the time these guys have some meaningful game experience and their legs under them next year, another play-in game is within reach
-
3 point shooting this season is encouraging. attempting 23/game this year at 41%, vs 19/game and 36% last. 2 years ago it was 18/game at 31% :sdeek:
as far as % of the fg attempts, 3 pointers are making up 40% of the attempts, vs 36% last year and 31% 2 years ago. in hoiberg's last year, 37% of their shots were 3's (making them at 36%). golden state 37%, houston 53% :surprised:, spurs 29%, cavs 37%, okc 36%.
oscar weber is keeping up with the times. if we can keep this up or at least shoot 37% at a high volume, good things will happen

How did the Play Hard Chart turn out?
I believe our hard-tryin' wild wildcats are try-hard undefeated since 2012
-
No way we win the PHC yesterday.
-
If it’s on TV, I will watch every ASU game from now on just waiting for his clock to get cleaned.
I was afraid something was wrong with me for wanting that douche to get a hard elbow to the face.

Dang. ASU beat Xavier 102 to 86. Maybe we are better than we thought.

we aren’t

George Washington U has their own version, called The Ghost Stats.

Way cooler name.
