Here's some true stories:
1. Lived in Wamego when this went down
2. I've talked to Leonard Pickard a few times, seemed pretty cool. I may even have some e-mails from him in an old hotmail account.
3. He ran right by our house the night they were chasing him
4. The cops came to our door and told us to keep the doors locked so my dad got out his shotty.
The e-mails were from when he was already in jail. They had a "Free Leonard Pickard" website with his e-mail address in prison so we exchanged a few. He was pretty politically correct since it was probably monitored. Told me not to go down the path he went etc. But he did tell me a little about his escape attempt and how he was putting cold leaves over himself to hide from the thermal cameras they were using in the helicopters. Probably would have gotten away if that farmer wouldn't have found him sleeping in his barn the next morning.

And you stripped at Club Orleans back when it was Cabaret USA. And for years you banged these gross old dudes in exchange for mad drugs that you did in a crazy-ass missile silo in Wamego. Still, story is crazy and interesting and if I saw this chick at a bar I would have a hundred questions for her.

I also corresponded with Pickard years ago before his email address was deactivated, but I never had the opportunity to ask him about when he was fleeing on foot and I thought what you wrote about Pickard, "putting cold leaves over himself to hide from the thermal cameras they were using in the helicopters." was really interesting. When I was in Wamego doing research I wanted to interview the farmer who found Pickard in his barn and turned him in but I could not find the farmer's name or address.
