As everyone here is well aware Kansas State University pulled off a historic coup last season by stealing the Titletown crown from Texas. Before this historic season the Titletown crown had resided in Austin since 2006 when the Longhorns stole the crown away from Stanford(Titletown Champion in 2000).
The question is will any team be able to steal Titletown away from the Katz? Conference Realignment has certainly helped the Katz defense of Titletown by increasing the size of every conference except the big12.
Lets take a look at this years contenders!
FBall Bball(Current Ranking) Baseball(Last Season)Pac12 Stanford 9-3 5th
Big12 Baylor 10-1(#12) 5th
Big10 Mich St 11-1(#5) 7th
ACC FSU 8-3 2nd
SEC Auburn 6-3 12th
Teams to Keep an eye onMichigan St- The Spartans are the favorite to win the Big10 in bball which would give them the vaunted 2maw. If they are serious about taking the Titletown crown from us they will need their baseball team to step up after finishing 7th last year. They did win a baseball conference title in 2011 so it is not out of the realm of possibility.
Baylor- The Bears have never won a title in Bball but Scott Drew has the boys playing well this year(Ranked 12th). It is doubtful that they can win the big12 over OSU/KU but we need to keep an eye on their progress. I don't really know anything about their baseball team but we can worry about that if and when the time comes.
Florida State- The Seminoles are pretty salty in Fball and Baseball but I'm having a real hard time imagining them winning the ACC in bball. If that happens we may have to batten down the hatches and go to defcon 2 during baseball season.
Once every squad has been eliminated from Titletown contention you know what to do!
