Kansas State Football / Re: KU football is TBD

Meh, in my humble opinion Les is doing about what he needs to do... Keep KU football in the news, sell some home game tickets, tell fans that he will get them to be contenders soon, and recruit high school players.  He has done these things and their recruiting class is currently well ranked.

If he can do these things for another couple of seasons, pick up a few 4-5 win seasons and maybe get the university to improve the stadium then his real job will be done.  My sense is that, despite the media portrayals, Les is a fill gap to attempt some relevancy while KU heals financially and finds its next coach.  I could be way off, just my view from the outside.

We are throwing darts at big corners and OT's.

Recruiting class isn't that great

Meh, Snyder used to get most his class after the season ended and some fans would claim he was getting the late bloomers.  Time will tell.

Feel horrible for Parker, EG and Wheeler... all three seemed to be playing their best ball prior to injury.

I do like that Klieman’s insistence on playing so many players has helped build some experience.  I still don’t think we are a “deep team” but at least when someone has to step up they aren’t coming in green on the 9th game of the season.

This is all just setting up exactly like 06 and 07 it’s not even funny.

That's a hell of a proclamation. The 2006 KU team went 6-6 and the 2007 team went 12-1.

I believe he is referring to when Prince beat ranked Texas teams and then got hammered the following week by KU.

Jerome Tang Coaches Kansas State Basketball / Re: scrimmage

https://basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/bossi-s-best-10-freshmen-who-could-outplay-their-ranking

Why he could outplay ranking: We already gave Gordon a big boost in June after watching him play at the USA Basketball team tryouts. I’m worried it wasn’t enough. He’s athletic, he plays very hard and he should be a high-level defender from the get-go. His ball-handling and shooting are both coming along, I’ve heard nothing but good things out of Manhattan, and I won’t be surprised if he ends up in the NBA at some point in his career.

Nice!  This is pretty exciting analysis if true.  I keep thinking that eventually Diarra, Gordon and Sneed will be our starting backcourt, but I would guess that at first Williams gets the nod at PG and Diarra is the SG.  We will see soon I suppose, either way I imagine that Gordon will get “starter like minutes.”

For those who went to the scrimmage what did the fours look like?  I would guess Stockard starts?

My co-workers and I have been debating if there is a fair way to evaluate KU and KSU progress.  In some respects you could argue that both “look better” and find some supporting stats, but the opposite is also true of both teams as well.  In the end, I think wins is the only fair and objective measure.  Both KU and KSU are laden with seniors and should “look better” due to motivation and experience.  If KU wins more than 3 games and KSU wins more than 5 I will consider it progress.  Thoughts?

I want him, badly.

Yeah, I doubt we are even on his radar but he is a very talented back.  I would say more talented than our current backs.

need more talent. having zuber-rison-knowles right now would be super cool.

This.  OSU has the DB talent to win man-to-man almost every play.  Everyone else could watch the ball carrier / QB... tough to win that way regardless of who is play calling.  Hopefully we can figure something out, Baylor and TCU seem beatable.

Lol at Herbert redshirting. 100/10 is still alive and well.

Redshirting and transferring rumor has it

If he enters the transfer portal I hope we call him ASAP

Ouch, hope he heals up quickly.

I wonder if they will try to work in Graber... Youngblood and Gill will certainly need to step up.

We won’t finish anywhere near #36 but under 50 is still realistic and a huge improvement over Snyder’s last few classes.

Do you think KU will hang onto their recruits?

Yea

I am impressed with the talent he has drawn in...
I assume due to how terrible they have been? Because they have some nice guys, but overall still dead last average rating per recruit in the conference.

Yeah, I am impressed that any kid with legit P5 offers would pick a team with 3 total winning conference seasons since 1996.

I mean, what in the world... they even added two Drive In theater screens

The victims of the Adidas scandal have shown a lot of remorse and have adequately been penalized for their monetary and competitive gains.

Here is an argument, with a set of facts, that Kli has increased the quality of recruiting.  247 Sports takes all of the various recruiting ratings and creates a composite score for each recruit, then averages the ratings of each class.  Below is a list of KSU's recent class ratings... these ratings are not dependent on quantity.  They are 100% dependent on evaluated quality.

2006: 0.8059 (Prince)
2007: 0.8251 (Prince)
2008: 0.8404 (Prince)
2009: 0.8222 (Prince - Snyder)
2010: 0.8163 (Snyder)
2011: 0.8167 (Snyder)
2012: 0.7995 (Snyder)
2013: 0.8221 (Snyder)
2014: 0.8217 (Snyder)
2015: 0.8339 (Snyder)
2016: 0.8208 (Snyder)
2017: 0.8333 (Snyder)
2018: 0.8400 (Snyder)
2019: 0.8397 (Snyder - Kli)
2020: 0.8436 (Kli)

Translation, in the last 15 years are highest rated class based on quality are:
2020 - Kli
2008 - Prince
2018 - Snyder
2019 - Snyder & Kli
2015 - Snyder

Our commits are mostly puds, but at least we're gobbling them up fast i guess?

This.

Studs or puds.....who knows?  But their rankings are almost identical to what we got under Snyder.

I guess it’s better to get them early, but I’m really not even sure about that either.

As I posted earlier, our current 247 composite ranking is higher than any Snyder class.  Likewise, I think it is logical that getting kids you saw in camp is way better than waiting until Dec-Jan to pick over whatever is left.  Sometimes kids blow up their senior year, but I would guess most P5 players were great as juniors and kicked-butt at college camps.

The ranking is due to quantity, not quality.  Based on the current quality (or, perceived quality by ranking services) of the guys we have, I would expect our ranking to end up pretty much where it was under Snyder once all the recruiting is complete

No, our composite rating (eg weighted average score of each recruit) is 0.8436 higher than any Snyder  class.

I watched this kids HUDL film and while he might be unranked for football skils right now, he's already a solid four-star crap-talker.

Very underrated part of the game.  For my reference, how many stars did Josh Buhl have?

Seems like a lot of quantity over quality right now. Will Howard ? Okay I guess... The Chris Herron qb commit from last years class looks like 2x the QB this kid is, as long as we get him to stick around. We need some legit big man WRs...

Meh, you may be right; however, 247 has our average rating at 0.8462... the last time we passed the 0.84 mark was 2008 with a weighted score of 0.8404.

For you sitting on the fence, the recruiting for a first year coach, who by the way never HC'ed a P5 team, is good.  We will need to wait a see what things will be like in the next three years.

Yeah, everyone’s biggest concern was how Kli would recruit.  At this point it has to be better than expected for most fans.  If he can sign these kids, win 6-7 games (with a win over KU) it will be a really, really good year.

I may be crazy, but if KSU lands Dekkers, Stroud or Howard I won’t be worried about Chubba.  I think all four of them are pretty talented.

Dekkers is going to the clones, Stroud to Cal and Howard hates the crap out of us.

You may be right, but both ISU and Cal already have QBs committed... I realize that some kids can’t do the math but hopefully our coaches can explain it.

If you’re going off rankings, yes. That guy disappeared after he left.

Yeah, I should clarify:  I was thinking more along the lines of “Which Weber recruits have had the most positive impact for the program?”

In that sense Harris, Foster, etc aren’t in my list :)

24
I think D Gordon may be the best recruit oscar has ever brought into KSU.

Just curious who your top Weber recruits would be?

I think I would go with a top 5 in no order:
Westicles
DJamer
Sneed
Barry
D. Wade

Still #3 in the Big 12 in recruiting.  Plus, we have already received 3 DE verbals in 2020 class.  Van Malone is recruiting Korie Black...that gives me some hope.

I agree on Van Malone, he has been killing it.  If we can get 15-20 kids to sign early I fill pretty confident that Kli can evaluate the remaining talent to fill in the edges... normally KSU was looking to find 20 guys from Dec to Feb.

As for the DEs, I think only Matlack will be a DE.
  Shufflebeam = TE
  Triplette = DT
