I want to simplify what I'm holding on to and carrying, and making sure I'm getting the most bang for the swipe. The main daily spend categories I deal with for which bonuses are available are gas, dining, and groceries. When I'm not trying to hit a spend, I usually carry the sapphire and the hhonors surpass. Sapphire's obvious, and the surpass gets 6x for gas, groceries and restaurants (but I use the sapphire for restaurants).
I've also got the Marriott, Hyatt and IHG. Marriott & Hyatt are the same - 2x for restaurants, flights and car rental. IHG is 2x for gas, groceries and restaurants.
I've got the Ink for 5x office stuff and 2x gas and hotels, and the SPG, AA and United which don't have any bonuses for things besides themselves, and I may cancel United depending on the results of my war with them.
I'm thinking I'll keep using the sapphire until the end of the year, get my annual dividend, move points to Ink, cancel and get a new one when the time is right. But for when I don't have it or even when I do and have met the new spend, I'd like to maybe replace it as my dining card with the IHG or HHonors, and use that same card for gas/groceries, which sapphire doesn't bonus for. I'd use Ink for everything else to keep building up general UR.
Are the hhonors points so shitty that even using it for 6x things is dumb? After just spending 180K, I've got about 45K now, and currently get about 2K/month just using it on gas and groceries. I've still got around 220K IHG points. Basically comes down to 6x HHonors vs. 2x IHG.
I tried keeping my HHonors card in my car and only using it at gas stations and grocery stores, but lost it the first time I took it into Dillon's because it wasn't in my wallet. Plus, I'm hoping to soon be walking my grocery store trips.
T-Y.
