The problem isn't swallowing the whistles. It's that they swallow the whistles on our end, then make up calls when they have the ball. It isn't even inconsistency now, the last few calls were just MADE UP.

If we could get even officiating, this would be about a 4 point game. Officials took away a couple baskets on bogus charge calls, and took away other baskets by allowing VCU to mug us at the basket.
Combine that with the stupid touch fouls they call on ALL our bigs, and with EVEN officating, this is a much, much closer game. Even with the stupid 3 point shooting by VCU.

Bill Self needs to be on the hotseat next year. No, I'm not joking. Two upsets in a row by midmajors, not to mention the Bradley and Belmont debacles. Recruiting has been awful for several years now and for whatever reason, our coaching staff has done a horrible job developing guards.

To those Kansans who missed the game and have been asking me if the officials were really that bad:
Yes, the refs were about as bad as can be. I know that people don't like to "blame" the refs but I couldn't care less about looking petty for blaming them. Their starting effing frontline didn't record one foul all game. There were multiple times when a Morii would be in the air, get pushed in midair only to not see a foul call. The blocking/charging fouls all went against us as well.
We were missing free throws left and right, but if their bigs would have had some fouls to worry about things might have been different. If a few more fouls would have been called then we would have gotten to the double bonus faster. At least five points were given to VCU through bad foul calls, probably more if I really want to sit down and think about it.
It disgusts me. It's infuriating that we're about the only rough ridin' perennial power that doesn't get the treatment from the refs that the others do. Every once in awhile I see a game where I think the other team is getting screwed, but it should be more given the way Kentucky's games, UNC's games and Duke's games are reffed.

Seriously though, it's ufortunate that we don't get the calls like the ACC, SEC and Big East darlings. It should not matter where you are from, who you are or who you are playing. We are freaking Kansas! We aren't asking for calls we don't deserve....just call the game even and right!
Listening to the pre-game, the National CBS crap with John Thompson...I told my ife, "It's like they all want VCU to win, like they (CBS/Other coaches) want/need a Cinderella to make the NCAA all warm and fuzzy". I told her that I bad feeling that the fix was in. Hated to miss the game- glad I did with what I'm seeing re:the ref treatment. Ugh!

I thought I would have calmed down by now, but I'm still outraged. We are KANSAS!!!!!!!!!!! I have every right to feel like I do right now. It is the fourth disappointing loss in eight years. We should have one this game!! I am sooo glad to have people rub the loss in my face - NOT. Bill Self is great in the regular season but he cannot do it in the post-season!!!!!! We have a national championship but people tend to forget that.

I mean, it seemed like these guys were strategically making calls. Their stretch in the first half where they didn't get a single f***ing foul called on them opened it up, and when TRob came in he got a quick questionable two.
When we started to make the run in the second half, those were the single two worst calls all tourney long. ALL TOURNEY LONG!

Ok well if you're not frustrated you are a robot. A rough ridin' ROBOT! There is no excuse losing to these types of teams every year. NO EXCUSE! if you have no emotion you might as well be an OU fan in basketball. For an elite program we needed another title this year. Another missed opportunity in a cake walk bracket. Sorry just the way I'm feeling and entitled to my opinion.

Oh, and just for the record, let me say that "Cinderella" is a really a dirty little whore. The way the networks treat the upsets now, almost pleading and begging for them to happen. Storyline after storyline after storyline that talks about the underdog. The rants of announcers, studio people and everyone associated with the tournament when an underdog takes a lead early in a game they can't wait to begin using the word "upset" . I find it all to be very entertaining.

It's a joke! What an awful Final Four! Regular Season doesn't mean much when you have a Final Four that includes a 9th place Big East team with 9 losses, a 3rd place SEC team with 8 losses, a Butler team that tied for it's conf. with 2 other teams and has 9 losses and a VCU team that finished 4th in the freaking Colonial and has 11 losses....that's 37 losses for the final four teams. Makes me question myself on what the regular season really means? Seeding in the NCAA's? Doesn't seem like that really matters much- at least it didn't to these teams.

I have to be honest. I love college bball and am interested beyond just KU games, and I think this is the first time in the last 20 years that I may not watch the Final Four. I'm a little intrigued by VCU-Butler, but I'm not sure I can take it seriously knowing that the four remaining teams were nowhere near the four best teams all year.
And this isn't sour grapes; I wasn't all that interested in 2006's Final Four except to see if Mason could pull it off.

He whined every time he didn't get what he wanted, he whined when they actually called his team for the god ridiculous amount of fouls they committed, he whined when we went on a run, and it finally paid off. His team should be ashamed ASHAMED! of how they got that game, but probably not. They used what they could, including playing the refs and playing the contact and playing the "good, small, classy vs big meany" card to brutal execution against our bigs.

There is just a lot of parity in college now. It is because the NBA raids the teams so they can fill the benches with guys who get paid 2.5 million to play 6 minutes, who never develop into near what they might have been. I am not talking about the few who go every year as freshman that are ready. I am talking about for example, the 4 on our team. Don't tell me Marcus can't raise his stock. He goes this year, he is picked maybe in the late teens, and rides the bench, maybe for the rest of his career for the most part. He waits a year, he is maybe POY, gets picked maybe 3rd, and starts his first year in the NBA.
But he will go, they may all go, it is kind of sad, but the pay an obscene amount of money for the guys who ride the bench, and guys don't want to wait a year to be paid mega obscene money, obscene money is enough to satisfy them. I can't say I blame them, and this is one of the reasons I hate the NBA, I have never seen Kobe of Lebron play, never seen an NBA game even on TV, I never want to. I find the NBA disgusting. Now if a KU guy who stays at least a few years gets some money, I am happy for him. But I will never watch.
I love basketball so much that I hate the NBA, and therefore will never watch it on tv. EVER!

Pay off a couple playas to shave pts/lose some winnable games.

Pay off the right person in the NCAA to stand for the team.

If we were in the Pac-10 would we be in the final four? I think the answer almost surely is yes. Basketball and all sports can be very much affected by small differences or the "Butterfly Effect." My bet is if we were announced in the Pac-16 starting in 2012 right now that we would have made the Final Four and even the Final itself. Whether we would have made the final would have been up to the players but I have a hunch we would have been in the Championship just from the extra buzz. I think having an uncertain future in a faltering at best and dying at worse conference has made a small but tangible difference to optimal performance. Now they are talking about the Pac-12 getting a considerably more TV contrcat than even the mighty SEC. I think we missed a great opportunity to be in a super power conference when we now have to live with an uncertain future. I think it was a big mistake.

It's tough for a KU fan when Bill Self ruins all the players projected for the NBA to actually watch something that Bill Self's players suck at doing on a consistent basis.

I think that's what's the funniest about all this. morningstar had played really well for most of big 12 play. Those two were their glue guys and ks kids, and they completely bombed.
