Talking about corporate real-estate got me thinking about population density.

I'm curious if COVID will create the trend of people moving to the suburbs in favor of larger living spaces.

I've spoken with people who live in small apartments or lofts downtown.  They say social distancing and working from home while living downtown is miserable.  What they loved about living downtown has been taken away from them.

I know a few people who are house searching because they can no longer tolerate the close quarters of a downtown apartment.  Do any of you live downtown?  Does it suck right now?

I live in a condo downtown because I prefer to not be home much and WFH combined with lockdown / not being able to travel has made it feel uncomfortably small.  I haven't once thought of moving because I chose to be here for location to fun stuff, walkability, and ease of maintenance.  I haven't found being able to distance hard at all, few are downtown anymore and we have a boat load of neighborhoods/parks to enjoy.

I could see some wanting to bail out of the situation though as they feel encased in their condo/apartment.  I can say condos are flying off the shelf quicker  than ever with prices rising during this so who knows.

I have been downtown like 3 times since this whole thing started.  The only reason has just been driving around, since the office has been closed, although it is partially open to some now.

I have a very spacious 2 bedroom apartment in the 'burbs with a dedicated office even before all of this.  So I haven't felt like it's been close quarters doing WFH for the past 4 months.  I haven't thought about moving because I already have an ideal situation to deal with all of this.  I do go to several nice parks almost every day though too just to get out the house.  I'm glad that I ended up not moving downtown or closer because I feel like I would have not liked it right now.

hanging out on the north lawn of the WWI with a thermos of wine watching the city will definately be my memory of the lockdown

I didn't see the reports from the American Academy of Physicians and Surgeons (Chum1)

Oh no Dax, hopefully this isn't your study!

I'm not gona dax out but jeez it would be good to discuss some positives.
Here's some perspective.  Over the last week, Arizona has been right around the worst state in terms of deaths per capita.  They stand at 5.4 deaths per million per day rn.

At its peak, NY averaged 68 deaths per million per day.  So almost 13x worse.

Things are trending poorly, but things needs to get way way worse before we start sniffing the daily badness that was mid-April.

No Phil, I read exactly what the AAPS said.

We've discussed this already in detail.

Scientists have also said multiple negative studies on HCQ are flawed, very flawed.

We discussed that as well.

Goodness, just awful anymore.

LOL, it's absolutely hilarious to watch certain factions of BidenBot Nation favored scientists and physicians fall all over themselves to talk down HCQ.    We need to check their stock portfolios.

Apparently yet another total quack at Yale.

yeah, fundamentally different.  in the spring it was one region (with a few satellites) getting absolutely hammered and most of the country free and clear.  now it's a much larger proportion of the country, but even the worst areas are just kinda sorta bad.

Yeah.  The unique problem with the NE back in the spring is you had an absolute shitload of people getting sick and needing to go to the hospital all in one relatively small geographic space -- which compounded existing problems and created new problems (bed/staffing/ppe/vent shortages).

I do think the country has kind of a collective PTSD based on the Northeast Experience in April.  Which is understandable, even if it leads to some misconceptions about the actual state of things as they exist now.

Yeah.  I remember one night some broadcast of manhattan and streets empty except for ambulances all over the tucking place.  It was just lights and sirens and you knew it was a real bad.  Everyone is scared of that.

Yeah, and rightfully so.  My emotional brain is still scared of that, but my rational brain jumps in and says "those scenes are very unlikely to ever happen again from this thing."  But I also spend an embarrassing amount of time looking at data, and I'm also optimistic by nature.

People less obsessive/optimistic hear a soundbyte of "things are bad in FL/AZ/TX" and they immediately jump to NY, where, like I said, things were 13x as bad.

i've been trying to tell tx beto people on twitter that abbott is going to get way more credit for not being a complete dumbfuck than he's going to get blamed for being a mostly dumbfuck, but they don't want to hear it.

Other than Trump conservatives, folks generally don’t think much of Abbott, so when he does things they like, he gets a lot of credit.

My two cents: Abbott is a smart dude who thinks he’s best off aligning with Trump whenever possible, but at the end of the day cares slightly more about his legacy as a guy who brought jobs into Texas and didn’t kill millions of people.

Interesting, maybe it's changed since April:

If you were in hospice and had already been given a few weeks to live, and then you also were found to have COVID, that would be counted as a COVID death. It means technically even if you died of a clear alternate cause, but you had COVID at the same time, it's still listed as a COVID death. So, everyone who's listed as a COVID death doesn't mean that that was the cause of the death, but they had COVID at the time of the death." I don't know Steve, read those words and tell me what you think.

I'm sure there's a FearPorn article or two out there that attempts to say otherwise.
