A Letter from AD John Currie - January 29

Dear Wildcat Nation,
As we move full speed ahead through this exciting basketball season, I'd like to take a moment to share with you an update on our 2010 football schedule.
First, my sincere appreciation and thanks go to everyone who helped the Wildcats take a positive step forward this past fall. Our student-athletes and coaches are to be commended for their hard work and determination which led to improvement throughout the season and we all appreciate the loyalty and enthusiastic support of our fans and students. I'm also grateful for our staff's efforts in improving our fan experience.
Indeed - all working together - players, coaches, fans, students, staff, we can achieve our vision of having a model intercollegiate athletics program!
You have likely heard me mention that completing the 2010 football schedule has been a major priority since I arrived in June. Coach Snyder and I have worked together to build a scheduling philosophy that makes sense for K-State while also taking into account the significant scheduling pattern changes that have occurred nationally over the last five years.
Generally we have five primary goals in scheduling: 1) to have as many early-season home games as possible; 2) to have at least 11 FBS (formerly known as I-A) opponents each season; 3) attempt to include an open date during the regular season; 4) to create opportunities to provide further exposure for our program and University on a national level and in important K-State "markets" and, 5) have at least six home games, preferably seven, every season.
Of course, there are many factors we don't control such as the basic fact that game arrangements have to fit the goals (and availability) of the other institutions - sometimes even our own goals may conflict! This is coupled with the fact that "guarantees" for single home games (i.e., schools that we will only play in Manhattan) have spiraled out of control nationally over the last several years, in some cases exceeding $1 million per appearance.
With that said, we are very excited to announce our 2010 football slate which includes six home games at LHC Bill Snyder Family Stadium, five of which are against teams coming off bowl appearances.
Our first six games will be in the state of Kansas and Kansas City, beginning September 4 when the eyes of the nation will be upon Manhattan as we welcome UCLA to LHC Bill Snyder Family Stadium on opening weekend.
After hosting Missouri State on September 11, we'll kick off the Big 12 season in Arrowhead Stadium on September 18 against Iowa State. The Chiefs organization is a great partner and we appreciate its willingness along with the Royals to enable K-State to open the 15th Big 12 season, just as we did in the 1996 debut season of the league.
We were fortunate to recently secure a sixth home game for 2010 and are excited to welcome Central Florida of Conference USA to Manhattan on September 25. We'll return the game to UCF on September 22, 2012. Orlando is a great destination trip for Wildcat fans across the country with easy flight access as well from Kansas City, Manhattan and Wichita. Florida of course also represents an important recruiting area and features a strong local K-State alumni base as well.
Thanks to the cooperation of the Big 12 and our friends at ESPN, we will host Nebraska for a rematch of the 2009 Big 12 North title game on Thursday night October 7! ESPN's Thursday night broadcasts are consistently among the most-watched college football games of the year and offer tremendous exposure for the entire University and community.
This is also important competitively as we will essentially have two "open" dates - October 2 before the Nebraska game and then October 9, before our October 16 game at Kansas.
Following a trip to Baylor on October 23, we'll host Oklahoma State and Texas on back-to-back weekends October 30 and November 6 before closing the conference season with road trips to Missouri and Colorado on November 13 and 20, respectively.
Our regular season will conclude with a road trip to the Dallas metroplex to visit North Texas on Saturday, November 27. This provides a great opportunity for our K-State students from Texas and alumni to cap off their Thanksgiving weekend with their own "home game!" As previously scheduled, UNT will return to LHC Bill Snyder Family Stadium September 15, 2012.
We are excited about the future of K-State football and will continue to work to schedule games that make sense for Kansas State University, our football program and our fans.

Announcing our schedule as early as possible is another element of achieving our goal of having the best fan experience in the Big 12. Please start making your plans to be in Manhattan now. Having a sold-out LHC Bill Snyder Family Stadium makes a statement to all of college football.
We will again offer varied ticket plans to provide accessibility to all K-State fans. Even with this tremendous upgrade to the slate of home opponents, our standard season-ticket price will remain the same for 2010, just $300 for a full-season ticket or $330 for a chairback seat. Minimum Ahearn Fund priority seating contributions will also remain unchanged from 2009.
More information will be available next week regarding all season- and single-game options and promotions. If you are not already a season-ticket holder, please click here to sign up for early notification of all available tickets and packages.
Thanks for your continued support of K-State student-athletes. Make plans today to be back in LHC Bill Snyder Family Stadium in 2010!
John Currie

That is actually great scheduling work imo.

Agreed, this is one of the best K-State football schedules I can remember. Hopefully the team can live up to it. Really want to go bowling, and I'll happily take Texas or Independence.

Maybe Snyder wasn't playing Brick Breaker here. Maybe he and Currie were blackberrying together to build a scheduling philosophy that makes sense for K-State while also taking into account the significant scheduling pattern changes that have occurred nationally over the last five years. Bet that pissed seat thief off even more than had he just been playing Brick Breaker.

Well crap, this actually just got me excited. I really didn't know if that would be possible for this upcoming season.

Having 12 days before NU and 9 prior to KU is pretty great.

Another bonus, the schedule release has spawned another twitter duel between K-State writers. Kitchen (http://twitter.com/curtiskitchen) and Cole (http://twitter.com/C_Manbeck) go back and forth a bit.

Also, Levi please interject yourself and arrange to fight one or both of them.

Yes, this must happen

Cole thinks the schedule sets up nicely. Kitchen things the schedule "is a mess".

Outside of the actual games and where they are played, which I'm not including in this as we've known for some time, how could this schedule be arranged any better? We have long breaks before what I would call our two biggest games. :dunno:

9/4 UCLA
9/11 Missouri State
9/18 Farmaggedon (KC)
9/25 UCF

10/30 Oklahoma State
11/6 Texas
11/13 @ Missouri
11/20 @ Colorado
11/27 @ North Texas
Only two home games the last two months of the season kinda sucks. Also will likely get withdrawal before and after the Nebraska game. Otherwise, sets up pretty darn well.
Misery is going to skull shazbot! us.

My best friend teaches in P-Burg now. He says how great it is. I just LOL.
I about got DQ'd from a golf tourney there in HS. The practice green was full, so me and another OC member went down to the (not sure what hole number, the one straight down the hill from the clubhouse) green and started putting. I guess you're not supposed to do that.

The home of Kevin Saunders' sand green course isn't as crappy as some. I like Tipton's better, though.

Also, that should be considered a really good season.
Didn't crap like this along with awful recruiting get the last guy fired? Calming the waters baby!!! Hey its 1990 all over again where sub .500 records give you the conference coach of the year.
Don't kid yourself 0-3 against the "rivals" and loses to CU & ISU would be a disastrous season. Going 0-5 against the nortards should be considered a really good season, LOL. Arkansas intellect is rubbing off on you.

Agreed, going 0-fer in the North would be horrendous.
But what do you like here?
Don't match up with NU or MU at all.
Haven't won a road game since A&M two years ago.
OB hasn't won in Boulder since 2000.
KU and ISU are toss ups, I'll give you that. But, again, one is a road game, the other on a neutral field against a team that: a) returns a lot of key pieces b) took a blocked XP to beat last year.
Five wins with this roster would be an achievement. That's all I'm sayin'.
-
Levi, you completely overlooked the fact that our coaches stayed home from recruiting all season in order to coach these fuckers up. We've got 6 wins in us. NYCPAK, book it.

After originally getting the "veto" from LHC Bill Snyder, sources are now telling us that the (ku) game will be moved to Thursday, October 14.

Disagree. Removes any chance of suffering a crushing 1PM defeat and not being able to watch the games the rest of the day because they all remind you of our loss.

true. most don't realize other games occur the same day as KSU football games. might be educational to the fan base.

We had 2 saturdays in a row off for the Thursday night Louisville game and it was awesome. Love free weekends.
Absent paks, KSU football's been kind of a burden in life for a while now.

Finally, be sure to check back tomorrow as we make an announcement regarding our football program and 2010 schedule - it is surely one that all K-Staters and citizens of the state of Kansas will be excited about!

Not a fan of back-to-back Thurs. night games.
-
Kind of mid-majorish to play all these Thursday games but at least they'll be better TV opportunities that way. Kind of sucks I'll have to decide between the NU and KU games though. Guess I could just go to both but only take one of the Thursday-Friday blocks.

Gonna lose back to back thursday games, how embarrassing

I :dunno: about the UK game. They lost all the best players from a shitty team so it's hard to imagine them being any good this year. But yeah, Nubb is gonna beat our heads in.

I just don't see Nub having enough offense to beat anyone's heads in. They will probably beat us by about 7 points.

KU didn't lose all of their players. In fact, they only lost two starters on defense and return the entire o-line.

I :dunno: about the UK game. They lost all the best players from a shitty team so it's hard to imagine them being any good this year. But yeah, Nubb is gonna beat our heads in.
KU didn't lose all of their players. In fact, they only lost two starters on defense and return the entire o-line.
And lost their only three or four weapons on offense...
Hardly. Pick had the longest run from scrimmage last season, Opurum and McDouglad are both 4-star studs, and Johnathan Wilson has shown flashes of being a very good receiver.

Is McDougald the same highly recruited safety that ku turned into a receiver and then back into a safety that you "warned us" about? Jeebus Cristo Beems, you may be the biggest douche on the planet. For reelz.
