Currie was a POS.  That said, I was unhappy to see him leave before having to fire oscar.  However, I also didn't trust him with a football coach hire.

Who knows what the Mustang will do, but this Sean chatter is discouraging.

i always used to post this message on the message board to people who wanted currie gone - "be careful what you wish for because i'm telling you we're going to end up with a suckfest and it will be worse than currie because every shred of historical evidence says it will be" and then most everybody was like, "can't get worse than this crap" lol some of you mongloids crack me up.

at this point it's just a matter of time before we nail the final nail in the coffin of what never was a great athletic department

I'd liked John Currie for a long time, he was a brave, honest and decent man. But he wanted out, was going to get out and his methodologies were at times . . . Unsound.

The Mustang is going to hire a couple super old Iowa/Dakota type idiots so he can have some buddies to sit on his ass with and collect checks.

I remember when people were initially coming around to the idea of having The Mustang as AD, now everyone hates him. How times have changed.

I too am happy to see Currie gone, however, he would have never fired oscar. There would have been excuse after excuse. He did what we needed him to in the time he was here (minus his awful basketball hire) and now his creepy mico-managing ass is gone.

I think some of you in here need to pop a few Xanax pills. The guy has only been on the job for a few weeks. I wasn't able to fly out to the Scott City fry this year, so I don't know if he attended, but he hasn't had too many opportunities to make public appearances, talk with people, or really make too many decisions. Can we at least wait until he starts making poor decisions before we threaten to burn everything down?

I honestly don't quite understand the defeatist/pessimistic tone about Taylor. The guy was an energetic and motivated AD at NDSU who really elevated their sports programs. Yes i understand its smaller program but still consider it quite impressive. Transitioning from Div II to FCS is nothing to scoff at, succeeding at very high levels and maintaing it on the field as well as imroving facilities/budget #'s at an institution that didnt place  a huge emphasis on those things is equally impressive. I think his personality is in stark contrast to Currie's but that's not bad thing, just different. Doesnt mean he's not highly driven or ambitious enough to do more than just status quo work here.

Honestly anyone that is trying to convince the board Taylor is some lame duck hire has really nothing to back up that statement other than silly anecdotes about how he looks like your typical middle aged dude. Sso what? Let's wait to actualy see how Taylor handles the program, etc during seasons and not literally the quietest time of the year before any real judgements are made.

you new here?

all he has done thus far is be boring and extend a women's golf coach who finished second to last in the conference. which is fine, he seemed normal in his initial interviews and it's better than socially awkward currie. but, he's also working on a oscar extension, so he's going to really have to earn it to be anything other than low/medium.

New, no. Just lurk mostly. What that has to do with anything not sure.

Again, i know it's hard to wrap your head around. But again, its the fricking slowest time of anything newsworthy for sports related stuff. What are you expecting exactly? Im just curious.

As for working on new extension for Weber. Taylor has been rather vague on it actually. Im sure an extension will ultimately take place, but stay with me here, the merit there should be whether Webers buyout increases or not. Hell i dont care if he gets a bump in annual salary. If his buy out stays the same, Taylor did his job correctly and that extension is essentilly a tolkien piece of paper. . If not, then yes you can bitch. But the longer that drags out negotiation wise, SHOULD make you happy because it's indicative that Taylor isnt some featherweight pushover

Part of his post was also critical of extending an insanely underperforming golf coach.

I don't give much of a crap about our golf program but we (kstate) did build them a championship course and they actually got worse.  Fire someone who is that poor

There are tons of reasons to be wary of Gene Taylor.

He'll have ample opportunity to prove that wariness wrong.

But the simple fact is he's walking into a situation where Kstate Athletics has averaged around $31 million a year in private giving for 5 or 6 straight years.  Can he maintain and grow that?  Can he grow the $18.5 million a (annual/operating) Ahearn Fund?   Can he grow the Directors Circle that has the lions share of Ahearn giving.

Those are fair points sonofdax, I'm not rushing to defend Taylor. Just against already judging him as a dud based on anything. Yes he has some challenges in maintain amd even building momentum here. But like i said, based on his own histpry of fundraising and growth at NDSU i feel like he has some abilities to press the flesh so to speak and continue to motivate people to write checks

I'll take cut throat assholes as long as we win and raise lots of money and the cut throat bad person is more in line with doing everything we can to win as long as it's not egregious rule breaking and covering up major crimes.   I am also open to discussion on what is or is not egregious rule breaking.
