I think Atlanta, Charlotte, Nashville, RDU, and DC would all be fine choices. Although RDU and Nashville are relatively lacking in the airport front.DC could be in his footprint, but it might not. It certainly isn't unreasonable choice given his criteria.

You're already moving to the southeast because the job requires it. Live, at least at the start, wherever will make your job easiest and free up the most of your own time.

Charleston and savannah are both nice and have small but adequate airports. I spend a lot of time in both for work. Asheville, NC is my sleeper pick though.
