Title: All-Purpose pro wrestling thread.
Post by: Rob_Cassidy on January 13, 2014, 09:05:12 PM

Hall of Famer.

WWE voters got it right tonight. A victory not only for the Warrior, but for steroid users everywhere.

the rock would whip his candy ass.

The Rock is not on anywhere near the amount of steroids, which puts him at a disadvantage. Look man, Mike Trout is a fine baseball player. But 2001 Barry Bonds would make him look like a goon. The same goes for Warrior and Rocky.

The common theme here, of course, is the unabashed use of anabolic steroids. They make you better at everything.

when i was in college (kansas state university) jake the snake was in some indy wrestling thing that wrestled in some gym on ft riley. some friends of mine brought a mini tape recorder and acted like they were reporters from the collegian and then just asked him questions that they wanted answers to back stage for like half an hour.

I always imagined myself as a clergy-themed wrestler.

My finishing move would be called "The Baptism." I'm not sure what that move is exactly. I go back and forth. Right now it's some sort of fall-away slam off the second turnbuckle.

When smackdown came to topeka a few years back Frank had acquired front row seats to go. He couldn't make it and gave the tickets to my boss at the time. A younger Metalhead got to high five The Big Show that night.

Wait just a minute here. You've obviously forgotten about this guy:

Nothing better than when he'd come in and say "cut the music" and tell all of the "fat slobs" in the crowd to shut up while he "showed their ladies what a real man looks like."

He and Mr. Perfect were the ideal heels.

He died May 23, 1999, now this is very important, are you claiming 5th gradership during the 1998-1999 year or 1999-2000 year, because that is a HUGE difference?

I saw million dollar man fight junk yard dog in Wichita in like 2nd grade. Virgil (his bodyguard) cheated for him so million dollar man won but then JYD got his chain and cleared their asses out of the ring while the crowd went nuts with a "Virgil sucks!" Chant. It made it extra intense because lil sd was taught that sucks was a swear word.

I also made it on TV for a WWF event dressed as the Big Boss Man when I was 11.  Macho Man even said something about me.  I'm the fat little kid dressed as the Big Boss Man, if you can't figure out which one I am

I saw the triple h guy and the giant china lady in a central illinois gold's gym like six years ago.  I didn't know they were in town when I saw them and was all "they look familiar somehow" and then I heard on the radio later that wwe or whatever was in town.  I did not approach them.  He didn't appear particularly tall, but has a very recognizable face.  She was gross.

IRS is on a "legends contract" with the WWE. He makes semi-frequent, non-wrestling appearances on Monday Night Raw. Razor Ramon is on a lot of drugs. Sadly. he's probably not long for this world.

i don't know anything about wrestling but when i first got to middle school, apparently everyone picked sides of being either wcw or nwo and there would be impromptu rumbles all over the hallways for like the first week.  they eventually got it settled down but then we had to read the outsiders and it just took a darker turn and was reincarnated as "greasers vs soc's"

My mom was totally fine with wrestling, but would not let me watch MTV under any circumstance. Weird?

Speaking of, the wrestling thing with me is strange. I've been a huge fan my whole life, but I have no idea why.

Most things that kids like can be traced. I'm a huge Mets fan because my dad would take me to games. I like some classic rock bands because my dad liked them. I know a bunch about the Beatles because my mom loves them. Wrestling, though? Nobody in my family ever liked it. Nobody else I knew as a kid watched it, either. It's like I just stumbled upon it when I was five and learning to work a remote.

Also, back then wrestling was such a southern thing. I have no idea how a kid living on Long Island fell in love with it. I like to think pro wrestling somehow found me.

The picture is a CM Punk, by the way. He's sort of the anti-authority figure of the era. Kinda like a less-redneck, modern-day Stone Cold.

Both shockingly alive. Though, The Narcissist is paralyzed. Also, the Lovely Miss Elizabeth (Macho man's old manager) died of a drug overdose at Narcissist's house.

i don't know anything about wrestling but when i first got to middle school, apparently everyone picked sides of being either wcw or nwo and there would be impromptu rumbles all over the hallways for like the first week.  they eventually got it settled down but then we had to read the outsiders and it just took a darker turn and was reincarnated as "greasers vs soc's"

Stay gold, ponyboy.

You must've taken too many chair shots over the years.  How could you even know what KJ's is and not immediately think of the ring?

It was kind of separate but basically part of Chance, just west of the front patio.  And the ring was just a small dance floor with ropes around most of the non-wall sides.

Kinda bummed about the Royal Rumble result.

I was firmly on board with Roman Reigns. Not sure if he's ready to be champ just yet, though. Still, Bautista headlining Wrestlemania does absolutely nothing for me.

Gonna need something like Bryan-Undertaker to save the card.

They're on the verge of not having to do that anymore. They have some young guys that are ready to headline these these big events. They just have to trust them to do it. I think they are finally figuring out that people are sick of seeing The Rock and Lesner.

NWO era in WCW was prob GOAT. Well, at least until the Attitude era of WWF/E, which obviously was better and was the best era of any wrestling era that I can think of.

Also, Ron Simmons.  I was a huge fan as a youngster in his WCW days.

Another point: Was/is there anything better than the old WWF "attitude era" Titantron and entrance ramp area? Loud piping music, excellent mic men, and a ginormous screen playing awesome entrance and highlight videos. That alone probably helped put WCW out of business.

So what are we thinking for a Wrestlemania 30 card?

I'm guessing this:

Bautista vs Orton for the title
Daniel Bryan vs HHH
Dean Ambrose vs Roman Reigns vs Seth Rollins  (Ladder match? Would be sweet)
Brock Lesner vs Undertaker
Cena (accompanied by Hulk Hogan) vs Bray Wyatt
Gold dust vs Cody Rhodes (Woof)
Some stupid Alberto Del Rio Match.

That card doesn't do that much for me, really. I mean, it will still be awesome but isn't WM 30 supposed to be huge? We need CM Punk back.

But whatever. I'll be there anyway. I got some sweet 6th row tickets through Yahoo. Anybody else going? The marriage of Wrestlemania and New Orleans is too awesome to pass up.

They're pretty expensive. I got mine for free through work, but seats in my section are going for 750 bucks on Stubhub right now. I think you can in the building for, like, $50. But that's in the top deck of the Superdome.

undertaker can't lose right.. I mean, right!?

Not to Lesner.

I'd be ok with them jobbing him to Daniel Bryan or some other young-ish guy that will be around for a while. But if he does end up against Lesner, there's no way WWF would be dumb enough to have him lose.

I don't think the card is going to be enticing enough for me to get the network.

There are those who say western Kansas begins about the time you exit Topeka, and though that’s not true from a geographical perspective, it is true from a demographical one. The metropolis of Kansas City and the liberal enclave of Lawrence are to the east, and the air capital of Wichita is way down south. The rest of Kansas is all rolling prairie and western sky, the native territory of the Kiowa and the Pawnee, the Osage and the Arapahoe, with great expanses of it looking – apart from a notable absence of buffalo – just like it did before European settlement.

TLDNR the entire thread, so maybe this has been covered:

I used to love it on WWF (or feel free to insert any pro wrestling ever) when there would be a tag team match and one partner would distract the referee and the other partner would jump in the ring and try to kill the poor sob who was lying on the canvas. The entire crowd would be trying to get the ref's attention and let him know what the hell was going on, but he was always to caught up in giving a terse warning to the other partner. WWF really needed instant replay for crap like that. I'm assuming they use instant replay now? Maybe a second ref? Maybe a cage to keep the other partner from jumping in the ring?

I'm gonna walk over to the arena with enough time before 10 that if there's a line or it looks difficult, I can walk back to try online.  I'll go for any 6 in the front row of the red or at least on the aisle by the ramp so winters can encounter the crap out of everyone coming and going.  If that fails, I'll see if there's anything that looks amazing but would likely just get cheap ones, knowing we'd get upgraded because when I went with Cole, they tarp'd the upper deck and moved everyone to make it look better on tv.
Title: Re: All-Purpose pro wrestling thread.
Post by: Trim on August 22, 2014, 10:35:04 AM
I was too late getting to the arena, I guess.  There were 4 customer sets in front of me, and they and the worker who peek'd his head out all looked incompetent, so I went back home.

Tried to get 6 together at first, and they would've had us in the 4th row, so I figured I'd try to do 3 & 3 right behind them.  It would only let me do one set at a time, and I got 3 front row, section F2.  When I put in for the next 3, what came up was that same section, 3rd row, a little offset.  I should've got those, but ended up trying a few more times and they were just getting further away, so I settled on F1, Row H, seats 2-4.  Those were in the next pricing segment down.  I don't know if 2-4 is on the ramp side of the row or aisle side of the row, but I figure either way, there'll either be ramp encounters or easy access to more booze and the chance of dudes fighting into the stands that way.

Yep.  When I was walked over to the box office, I made a mental note to go back when I had more time and look at the sign outside with rules about size of signs and whatnot.  I remember catching some static about flags and pak head signs when we went to the west virginia game, but eventually lawyerizing us and everything on in.

The .com on the pakhead might be problematic. I could see the WWE being nazi'ish over free "advertising".

edit: I still have one of the non outlined pakheads in my basement we could sacrifice to the wrestling gods by cutting off the bottom gE.com part.

Yeah, I think we'd be alright.  If nothing else, the flag can be folded up and put in a pocket to get it in.

But this reminds me, another of those no-border pak heads and the giant gE check is still in MHK w/KK.  If they haven't come back to Wichita from a football game trip, somebody bring them for this.

KK, look through wherever you found the pak head and big check and see if maybe the flag's there too.

I suppose an EMAW themed macho man is a possibility. Let me think about it. It certainly wouldn't require much more than what I already have in my possession.

So nicname's out, Dr. Jack's in, and metalhead's unlikely.

We've got 6 tickets.  Me, Gooch, Winters, ERiI and Dr. Jack are solid.  Cats2Win will go if metalhead doesn't.  Both could go, as there's still tickets available and I'm sure we could figure out a way to get together inside.

At least now I have sign ideas, primarily focused on nicname and possibly metalhead being timhawks.

Most of the stuff I set aside to be taken Tuesday could fit in any vehicle even with people in it, except for the dresser Winters wants.  I'm sure if there's anything that can't go on this trip, cats2win or gooch could hold it and run it to MHK at a future game.

Heard my guy Bo Dallas didn't get a great reaction from the Wichita crowd. That's a bummer. He's so inspirational. It's a shame to see him not getting the respect he deserves. His positive, upbeat character is essentially DScott. How could he not be over in Wichita? Love that dude.

I'm going to the Pay Per View on Sunday. Pretty excited.

Title: SmackdownPak ---Review!
Post by: Winters on November 03, 2014, 01:53:42 PM
After a delicious meal at Wichita's finest establishment, Trim, Gooch, ERiI, DoctorJack, Cats2Win, and I headed into Intrust bank arena. (Metalhead was a late arrival)

We had our first encounter with this weirdo they call "sign guy" as we headed in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3q9YHWKDK6Q
This guy is kind of like the weird robert of the WWE

Trim had an encounter with this unconfident loser "Sheamus (SP?)"
As Sheamus was high fiving the front row, Trim was giving him a big thumbs down. Sheamus is socially awkward and grabs Trim's thumb and then apologizes for it. Trim responded with "No, thumbs down BRO!" I was afraid ole Sheamus was going to get his ass kicked and choked out. Maybe they'll do something at wrestlemania?  :Chirp:

Metalhead and Gooch trolled the hell out of "the world's strongest man, Mark Henry"
I am 95% sure that he cried (http://image1.frequency.com/uri/w234_h132_ctrim_tt1411350150000/_/item/1/9/4/8/Mark_Henry_crying_during_the_national_an_194876383_thumbnail.jpg)

We ran into a long lost friend at the event as well!

STUDS!

Overall fun pak!

Went to the Smackdown in KC this past Tuesday and had a hell of a time. We stumbled in about 15 minutes late and got our tickets at the box office. The lady who sold our tickets must have been a huge KSU Cat/Daniel Bryan fan as she upgraded our terrible $17 seats for mid-level $57. It was shortly after getting to the seats that we were greeted by big time stud PaulNyakatura who just so happened to have front row seats from 103.3 hot jamz. "Go have fun" he said and boy did we ever. There was no good "Sheamus" encounters like Trim had in Wichita but I did ask Randy Orton that I wanted to do cocaine with him, he didn't seem to appreciate it and totally ignored my high-five. Big thumbs DOWN to Randy Orton for that. Below will have a few videos I captured.

Pics available upon request.

A really fantastic effort from WWE last night. I was a little worried about the show because the build was sorta slow, but it was a solid 8.5 out of 10. I would recommend to a friend. Everything (minus the pre show battle royal) was done well.

Pretty jazzed for Rollins' title reign. He's an absolute Zeus.

I wonder if we'll get the Undertaker on raw tonight. I'm guessing yes. Great time to be a wrestling fan.

But if we're nitpicking ...

What the hell are they doing with Bo Dallas? They hold him off TV forever just to throw him into a battle royal without a storyline or any sort of announcement? The guy's gimmick was gold. Now it seems like he's going to be another jobber.

Also, I'm worried about what may become of my guy Bad New Barrett now. Seems like the crowd has cooled on him for whatever reason.

Why did they take away Nevile's first name when he made the main roster? They did the same thing to (Alexander) Rusev. Also looks like Charlotte Flair is going to get the same treatment. She's going by "Charlotte". I'm pretty indifferent on this, but it seems to be a trend.

Also, we can use this pivot point to transition this thread into the Rusev appreciation thread if we want. Love that guy.

I don't believe so. That would be a fun feud. Ryback and Rusev are what they want Big Show and Kane to be.

Seems like they are going to turn Lana and Rusev against each other. Would be great if Lana left Rusev for Ryback and starting cutting promos about how Rusev was never big enough to satisfy her or whatever.

New Day is my favorite thing around.  I like PTP fine, but I'm really glad New Day won.

And man, Rollins acting like a face his entire match is exciting.  He's got so many cool moves.  I love his superplex into another suplex combo he does.  Wonder if we'll ever see the curb stomp again.

I miss the curb stomp. Orton hinted at using the punt kick so maybe there is a chance Rollins will hint at a curb stomp in the near future.

someday, at the inevitable HHH Rollins showdown, it'd be nice if Rollins pedigree'd Hunter, Hunter kicks out, and Rollins finishes him off with a curbstomp.  it'd be a nice little piece of story telling.

It was this guy Seth Rollins's devastating finishing move where a guy would be on all fours and Seth would jump on the back of his head and smash the guy's face into the mat.  It looked really cool.

Then he abruptly stopped using it for reasons that were never explained.

Oh absolutely.  His over the top nice guy personality is great.  When he high fived Steph last night I lost it.  Plus the badass finish to raw last night (also, hats off to Rollins, of course). Wish they would've given him his original mask, but whatever.

Wish they'd get Rusev out of this dumb storyline and get back to dropping hilarious Bulgarian banners after he whips ass every week.

It vanished around the same time that the WWE was coming under fire for mistreating concussions.

People were making accusations that they were being forced to compete through injuries (including concussions). I read on some dorky-ass wrestling blog that they got rid of it because it didn't look good to have the champ stomping heads while this concussion conversation was happening.

Could be BS. Who knows?

When I first saw these threads on goEMAW.blog, my belief in humanity dropped a little bit. But since Chingon allowed IPs to be visible to all users, I was happy to find out that there is not a large portion of people who actually watch this god-awful reality TV show, and that there are not lot of people who continually mistake a completely scripted soap opera as an actual sport.

The IP-viewing ability has restored my faith in those faithful to real sports, and subsequently restored my faith in goEMAW.

To those who unironically post in this thread as a handcuff to actually taking about this "show" seriously, please move out of your parents' houses and find a job. Be productive in society. You're not going to be able to act like you're 13 very much longer. Soon you're going to have to start a 401K, get your own medical insurance, and generally be useful within the confines of federal economic systems, or your life will turn to shambles faster than you can see it coming.

This is nothing more than a public service announcement. Please be smart about your future.

roman (who bray is feuding with) came out and cut a 10 minute promo wherein he recapped their entire feud.  he was getting "WHAT"'d by the crowd and he said "you guys havin' a hard time hearing me?" then when he continued, the crowd chanted "boring" and he told the crowd that what he was saying WASN'T boring.  then out comes the family wyatt.  bray cut a short promo where he did his mystical babble.  brawn strongman fought roman one on one.  roman wins via count out after a series of superman punches.

honky tonk man and jerry lawler were related in some way.  maybe cousins?  and, this was probably after your time, SD, but brian christopher of Too Cool was the King's son.  it was a running joke between king and JR that people weren't supposed to know of the relationship, but King would slip in "man, that brian christopher is a good lookin' cat!  bet he's been good lookin' his whole life!" and then JR would say "well why don't you just go home and check his baby pictures" and king would quickly screech "WHAT!?"

Some GREAT IRL stories on the Stone Cold Podcast episode with the Jake the Snake interview.

Best one is Austin asking Jake about the first time he ever "bladed" ---- (For you LWIQ people, "blading" is wrestler-speak for cutting yourself with a razor blade during a match)

Anyway ... Austin asks this questions expecting some wrestling story.

Roberts proceeds to tell Austin the first time he ever bladed was not in a match at all, but when he was out late having sex in a car with some wrestling groupie. He knew he had nothing to tell his wife at the time about where he'd been, so Jake decides to try blading. He slices his forehead open multiple time with a razor, goes home and tells her he'd been jumped.

Austin is just silent. He has absolutely no response. It's amazing.

i haven't heard that one yet, rob.  i can't imagine how long austin talked to him about these kids today and their DDT kickouts.  :blindfold:

on the subject of jake the snake, i was reading something the other day about how prior to a match between him and savage, he let his snake bite him in order to show randy that it wasn't that bad.

You guys ever watch legends of wrestling on the Network?

It's exactly the show SD is describing. It's guys sitting around a wooden table smoking cigars and telling IRL stories. They were filmed in the late 90s, it seems but there's some pretty cool stuff. I think there are, like, eight episodes.

By the way, I recommend Owens' feed. He's so great. People tweet him saying things like "My kid is a huge fan, man." He responds with stuff like, "That's great. tell him I blocked his loser dad."

He is a top-10 Twitter feed. Perfect bad guy wrestler.

Watching King of the Ring '93 and there's a first round match between perfect and some guy named "Mr. Hughes."

Turns out "Mr. Hughes" is one "Curtis Hughes," who, according to Jim Ross during the match, is a "former Kansas State Wildcat and one of the most penalized players in Big 8 Conference history."

Here is holding Undertaker's urn after battering him with it:

Early career   Edit
While briefly attending Kansas State University, Hughes played on their football team.[2] After leaving university, he trained professional wrestling under Sonny Myers and Bob Geigel. He debuted in 1987 for Central States Wrestling, before moving to the American Wrestling Association as a face under the ring name Curtis "The Cat" Hughes.

World Championship Wrestling (1990–1992)   Edit
He moved to World Championship Wrestling in November 1990, where he was called Big Cat. At Starrcade 1991 in Tokyo Dome, he was billed as Big Cat Hughes, and subsequently became known as Mr. Hughes, a heel enforcer gimmick with a suit and constant frown. He was a member of factions The York Foundation,[2] and also teamed frequently with Lex Luger, Cactus Jack and Vinnie Vegas. In summer 1992, near the end of his WCW run, he turned face and became Big Cat again, teaming with Junkyard Dog to feud with The Vegas Connection.

What a missed opportunity that the team of big cat and junkyard dog wasn't around during our JYC era.  I'd actually planned on wearing my JYC shirt to one of the TBT games.

There's a guy on FB selling an original Wrestlemania poster for $200. Or ten of them for $1500. They have been stored in a climate controlled environment.
Is this a good deal?

Ten of them?  Sounds like the type who's going to say that the one (or ten) you're getting are the last such posters in existence and then he'll somehow have more to sell next year.
