Lots of Battered Women's Syndrome in this thread.

No kidding.  Newsflash idiots . . .

We're Good

In our first matchup, we had 9 points from our bigs.  Somebody explain to me why this number increases dramatically at AFH?

If we get as many wide open looks from the 3 point line as the last game, we won't really need production from our bigs. We will just need to make a reasonable percentage of wide open 3's.

The refs will call fouls closeley, which normally screws us over.  But, barring some major home cooking, that will also incapacitate the foul machine Withey as well.  We can run JO, Gip, and Nino in the paint, and have them all foul out for that matter, but Withey will go with them.  As I said earlier, KU is worried about guard play, K-State needs to make them worry inside, and a closely-called game is just what the doctor ordered.

Probably. :frown:

If Will has another 0 point performance against KU, he should have to get a ride back with his parents.

Definitely no trip to Dairy Queen on the way home if that happens

How many times have we won at AFH the last 25 years? How many times have we beaten KU in the last 25 years, period? No difference in talent can totally explain that. It's a mental thing, further evidenced by how deep we dig a hole at the beginning of each of these games. To say "we'll be all right if we can just keep it close in the first half" is worth about as much as "we'll be all right if we can just finish the game with more points."

This is the most vulnerable KU team in a long while - just not for K-State. The only question is whether the loss tonight is also gonna eff us for Baylor. Hope not.

Also the fact that they have been more talented than us in practically every one of the last 25 seasons, in most cases much more talented.  In the last 25 years, 1999 is the only year they were not starting at least one first round draft pick (2 second rounders, Robertson and Chenowith).  We have started first rounders in 2008 and 1988.

Someone should come up with a Sprads drinking game.

Sprads misses a wide open 3, take a shot
Sprads get burnt on defense for an easy bucket, take a shot
Shannon Spradling name drop, finish your beer

Pass. I have had alcohol poisoning before. It's not a lot of fun.

Sorry Beems, a lot of the battered women in here think that KU gets super preferential treatment from the referees.  It's pretty dumb.

Fouling a lot and being called for fouls are two separate things.

I think there have been times when shitty officiating in AFH have hurt us (Walker's mystery 3rd foul comes to mine), but that is more a shitty officiating complaint and less a preferential treatment complaint.  Withey gets away with a few because he is generally very good at not fouling, so officials give him the benefit of the doubt on occasion.  Not a complaint, but just generally what I would expect as a benefit to a shot blocker that doesn't think every block needs to end up in the 2nd row.

BigXII refs are notoriously susceptible to home crowd influence.  Give KU fans credit.  KSU fans should be the first to admit that we get some calls at home that we don't get on the road.  I credit some of that to our fans.  Refs are human and make emotional calls from time to time.

Yeah, seems like we got some good home cookin last year a few games.  Not trying to turn this into a Frank thread but wonder if that had anything to do with it  :dunno:

The presumption was that the game, including bad calls, would be called evenly, dumbass.  Get off Beems nuts, read the entire post, and maybe, just maybe, you'll get the drift.

Wooly and Dramane Diarra won at AFH. How hard can it be?

I hate to tell you, but Dramane (or Sky Thomas) ain't walking through that door.

Nor is the leading scorer for the Cats that afternoon... but both he and Sky (and Meriemaweather) were at the OOD Saturday to watch the Cats beat ISU.
Double D was/is in Manhattan?  that is great

I think Dramane Diarra might have had the highest ever Name-to-BBall Skills ratio OAT.

name = 100/100
bball skills = 1/100

name/bball skills = 100 (highest possible ratio)

Sorry for the confusion. Unfortunately DD was not in Manhattan, but Sky, Meri, and Stew (the leading scorer when we last won in Lawrence) were there.

PREDICTION UPDATE:

We hit 4 threes in a row in the first four possessions, putting our lead at 12-1 at the 17 minute mark. Massa calls a TO, explodes and spills the spaghetti he'll be eating all over the court, which is made from very acidic spaghetti sauce (pH<2). The sauce eats through the floor and causes it to collapse, forcing the refs to call the game and adds X10 to both teams scores. K-State wins 120-10.  :D
