Title: Gameday Location
Post by: Belvis Noland on October 16, 2011, 11:56:50 AM
If we curb stomp KU (as expected) where should we broadcast Gameday?

Anderson Hall, Hale Libary, Aggieville, Stadium?

We want to highlight a unique feature of our university.   :dunno:

Stadium was fine, but seems like gameday is typically filmed with the university's signature architecture as the backdrop.

Was thinking the same thing, but in front of Anderson would be a good venue as well. There will be a ton of people that show up for it if gameday does roll in to town.

Here's how I would envision that day...

1) Gameday from 9-11 at old stadium
2) Mass migration at 11 to BSFS parking lots until...
3) 7pm kickoff on abc
4) Goalposts to aggieville around 10:30pm
5) Hope you wake up the next morning

The more I think about it, in front of Varney's appeals more and more.  All the bars could open up at 7 AM, everyone parties all day.  Sounds good to me.

Can't serve alcohol until 9am.
if they can do it for fake pattys day, they can do it for the biggest game in mhk for a decade.

*(@#ing nobody is giving Kansas State any respect.  The term "overrated" is oft used.  Whoever wins this game, we both lose.

I think you guys would have been better off just losing to Miami and Missouri and Baylor.  All this winning hasn't really changed the perception, sadly.

Also, I think the Anderson lawn is probably too small.  Remember that in past GameDays we've had like 18,000 people show up, setting the record.  We also set the record at the time for a basketball GameDay crowd.  It'll be our biggest game in almost a decade, and we won't be able to fit everybody on Anderson lawn I don't think.  Hale is more likely and still looks good.  Aggieville too.  Would love Anderson but I don't think it can realistically accommodate.

................But we all know they're just gonna do it in the stadium like they always do.  Which totally sucks for sign visibility and scenery.

....This thread is also super jinx-y by the way.  Everything I just posted is hypothetical until we're confirmed!

I see anything but the stadium or possibly the Rec Fields as a non option with the game being at 2:30p. Tailgating gates open at 9:30a and then student gates open at 12:30p. Sadly stadium/rec fields are the only feasible option imo

Not a chance. Aggieville works. The show is over at 11am cst, plenty of time for people to make the trek to the stadium. Imagine for the potential of a mass purple migration across campus, the university could pub the crap out of "a walk". Bit of a walk, but doable for the occassion. And don't underestimate the crazies that'll test the rcpd and drive from the side streets of aggieville to the stadium. Although I could see the city not want them to film a wasted aggieville att 10am

Although I could see the city not want them to film a wasted aggieville att 10am

you have never walked from Aggieville to the stadium have you? Stadium or Rec Fields are the only options people. blame the Big XII and ESPN for not having a good time slot if you want but don't be dumb. Not a chance its in Aggieville or Anderson or Old Stadium.

Yes, let's tempt college kids with drunk driving and/or clog up the shuttle bus system so as to piss off the 'tucks, then the grand finale will be a bunch of empty seats in the student section because 1/4 of the students got too drunk in the ville to make it to the game and the other 3/4 all got to the gate at the same time and created a backlog.

Nobody wants to get drunk and walk from Aggieville to the stadium.  That's rough ridin' Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!).

I have made the trek.  As long as you stop and take the obligatory halfway pit stop (crap) in Ward Hall, it's a pretty easy stroll.

"Logistical nightmare"?  GMAFB with that over-dramatic crap.  They would be inconvenient at most.  But you know what?  Worth it.  The worst possible thing we could do if we get GameDay is put it in a shitty location and say to the rest of the nation, "Well, we had a couple cool ideas but they would've required people to walk a mile and a half, and we're lazy as crap, so...."

Ok...lately gameday has been doing the show in front of on campus sites on the different campuses. So why wouldn't they do it in front of Anderson...huge pretty yard, pretty building, its perfect. Yes some students couldn't get to the tailgate at 9:30  to start getting blacked out drunk (God forbid) but, leaving anderson at 11 and getting to the stadium by 1130 should be enough time to get good and drunk before the game. Try McCormick's vodka...should do the trick.

No Aggieville and no rec center fields, lets be realistic please.

My question is, how would they orientate it in front of Varney's?

Usually the area with a ton of room and people is is behind them.  For an "expansive" view of aggieville, and one that can include a mass of people, to include Varney's, they'd have to put it at least in front of So Long's, or maybe even at the far east end of Moro.

Doesn't make any sense.

What is that? Topeka?  :barf:

Can't be.  Topeka is east of Manhattan.  That's gotta be Ogden.

Welcome to Aggieville, ESPN friends.

Yeah, except I bet they'd be further East.  They're going to need a ton of room to accomodate for the thousands and thousands of people who will be in the street.  This thing is going to make Fake Patty's Day look like a Tuesday night in June, people-wise.

Are you suggesting ESPN and the ESPN family of networks set up shop in front of the PI World Headquarters?

If they want to have the backdrop in the West, I think PI might be a good spot, but probably even farther.

why would anyone stand 2 blocks down the street when you can't even see the stage or anything that's going on?  Think if they do it in aggieville, people far away will just get bored and go in a bar and drink.

Seriously though, this sucks.  Anderson would be way better than Aggieville.  No matter where you put it there's gonna be some dumbass business in the background looking all rinky-dink.

"Subway!  Eat fresh!"

"Varney's!  Bend over, fuckwads!"

"Ballard's!  We used to be bigger!"

"Krystallo's!  Come make some bead necklaces or something!"

(This is all assuming we get GameDay, which we won't because we've jinxed ourselves.)

So I can stand outside in the back of a huge crowd where I can barely see the stage and NOT drink while watching it on jumbotrons, or I could step inside a nearby bar where I can't see the stage and sit down and watch it in HD WHILE I drink.

That's not a tough choice.

Exactly.

FTR, I would prefer Anderson, but Aggieville is a pretty cool unique thing to K-State.  Every campus in the country has an old building with a huge lawn.

Those saying "Yeah, but I'll get bored and probably just want to go into a bar and drink" are Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) because no matter where it's located, if you're in the back, it's going to be hard to see.  So, unless you show up around 5 am or so, you'll probably have to watch the jumbotron.

I'm on team Aggieville.  Anderson isn't that amazing compared to some of the places they've already been this year (or any other admissions building).  At least Aggieville brings something unique to the table.  As far as university branding goes, nobody knows what Anderson Hall looks like now and they'll forget five minutes after the show.  Love the Rock A Belly spot and the only shitty part of all this is that Varneys wins again.

When I think back to the Gamedays this year, all I remember about the settings are fields and campus buildings. I can't remember a Gameday set in front of a bar district where thousands upon thousand of K-State fans congregate the share a beverage, reminisce on old times and support each other in friendship. Has gameday ever done a bar district?

I'm fully on the Anderson train, but I can see some degree of cool factor in the 'ville if it's done right.

Truth.  But I will tell you that Limestone was right.  Aggieville is not very impressive on TV, at least from the air.  Nothing but one-story buildings and crap.  To truly get the essence of Aggieville you have to drink a fishtank.

Aggieville would probably look pretty cool from the air with 20,000 people in it. If it was in Aggieville they would have done it well and made it look good.

What people are forgetting is that when they come back from commercial breaks during our games they are still going to have shots of windmills, cow pastures and flat fields. Nobody is going to get an impression of us different from the one they already had.

Anderson wins, although I am warming to the idea of Aggieville.  But still not more than Anderson.  I think if we put it in Aggieville people across the country would be all "WTF they don't even have a building on campus nice enough to put the stage in front of?"

Yeah, Aggieville is great but they would really have to work some TV magic to make it look good on TV. It's a bunch of 2-story brick buildings that could be in any town in America. What makes it unique is not going to translate in a bunch of shots where it's just the background.

i would put it at the intersection of moro and 12th with their backs towards varneys. you could have people in front of and behind the stage and people in each direction. it's not going to happen though. they aren't going to do this thing in aggieville and continuing the topic is just stupid. especially when you and skibens are involved. let's just stop and move on. anderson hall. lots of grass and trees. campus. should be great.

Why do we have to give Gameday a location? Why not just follow the guys around campus all morning? They could stop by Call Hall for some ice cream, get 10 frames in at the student union (and play some sweet arcade games while down there), talk to Schultzy at Anderson Hall, then head on over to Aggieville for some beers and So Long's burgers, etc. That sounds like a pretty pleasant morning to me.

At least I'm not trying to do it in front of Jardine like Jrod.  Lol, remember that terrible idea?
:curse: :bawl:

That was the worst idea since President Bush's "mission accomplished" fiasco.  I'm amazed you're still posting after that abortion of an idea.

O my, it is almost as if you have completely blocked out the memory of mistaking adrian diaz for perry ellis.

They should strap the Gameday anchors to their chairs and invert the stage above Moro.

Should do it in the Weber Hall rodeo arena.  Let's face it.  ESPN won't show anything cool about Manhattan or Campus.  Every camera shot is going to be of those farms north of the stadium and that sign saying "LHC Bill Snyder Highway" about 10 miles south of town.  Might as well embrace it.  We could fill the fountains behind the union with naked playmates and they'd pretend it didn't exist.
