Google Chrome is Creepy
« on: May 05, 2015, 12:23:34 PM »
OK, so Google Chrome is super creepy with all of its directed advertising....like Gooch googled New Zealand the other day and then it started giving him ads about flights to New Zealand all the time. And it was trying to get me to join Scientology.

Also, this just happened...

I am on my work computer. I had to clear cache so then I had to log back in to gE...but when I got to the login screen it automatically put in Gooch's username AND password and all I had to do was hit "login" and it logged me into his account.

I am assuming he has never actually come into my work and logged on my work computer....so it is super creepy that Google Chrome is saving his info and then I can access it from my work computer without his authorization.

i typed "feliz cinco de mayo" to mrs mocat on google hangouts today, and a set of freaking animated mariachi things popped up and danced around for a minute. i typed it again, and it happened again. go ahead and try it right now.

You've sync'd your chromes between your work computer and your home computer.

Gooch might think it is creepy if he ever got on this site and saw some posts that he didn't write.

My wife booked a flight on her work computer, at work, using internet explorer, not using a rewards account, nor did she list her gmail account as her email, and today her Google Now told her that she needed to leave for her flight and it included the time, airline, flight number, and her assigned seat (which she didn't even know yet, because she wasn't assigned a seat at the time of booking.) So, how did Google know all that stuff?

Nope. She has a classified email address, can't sync it to her phone.

Still logged into gmail through IE when she booked it?

The CIA probably told Google about it.

That's possible. Seems remarkable that the connection between google and her internet activity can be so tenuous, yet they still find a way to get the info they want.

There may also be a recovery e-mail and phone number associated with a google account.
