Man, this thread really makes me want to go back to San Francisco, even though it was probably meant to do the opposite. Just not very many jobs in Mechanical Engineering there from what i've seen.

That dolores park picture, man i dont even.... I got bored and was checking out the mission district on google maps and dolores park is absolutely packed when you zoom in.

"Hey dude, you want to go lay out a blanket at the park and just hang out next to 2,500 other people doing the same thing?"

"Sure man, nothing else to do here"

going to Dolores park when it's this crowded:

Why? to sit. Also it isn't "touristy" yet.

Far less great smelling and looking people in that pic that anticipated.

As far as homeless people go, they are pretty elite.

not shitboxes like Berkeley.

hey, eff you, michigan.  also, i walked around the mission the other day.  nice place, a bit yuppie/pricey.  anyone that is nervous there should see a nerve doctor.

Some areas are definitely more yuppie than others. Time of day also matters. The problem is there at l are a lot of mentally ill crackheads that are really unpredictable, (and I think it was an incident at 1am that made him nervous, not the neighborhood). In East Oakland, for example, most unsavory characters are at least mentally stable.

Jesus Christ you must not be looking very hard. And this thread was not meant to persuade anyone to avoid sf, it's just things I enjoy rolling my eyes at

paying $2500/month for a one bedroom in THE rough ridin' MISSION.

do you have to live in the mission? my bro spent a couple years in inner richmond.  seemed like a comfortable place, good food, cheaper rent.  cloudy though

no, not required. inner Richmond is OK, kind of boring and dingy. But still pretty expensive.

the city is split by water, michigancat.  you're almost obliged to take a boat at some point.

Gentrification arguments are the best. I became obsessed with it when I lived in DC. my favorite was the hipster bumper tags (sarcastic of course) "DC: Coming back from black".
"How will I recruit to Manhattan? Well, distance. And the proud state of basketball. It start there, and then daily flights to Dallas, because I'm really good at going out. Like top five good. Ask my wife. She wants me to be happy."
