is it more expensive?

Yes, the state owns all of the liquor stores so they charge more and then pound you with taxes.  Also the selection is limited (although better than I expected) so I will run out of beers well before catching up with stevedave on Untappd. And there aren't very many stores to limit access.

I was in Salt Lake a few weeks ago and was appalled by the lack of liquor stores

Ridiculous, right?  Did you figure out the other crazy rules about alcohol at restaurants?

6 miles was the closest to my hotel, wasn't there long enough to get into restaurant rules but i mean, 6 miles from my hotel  :bang:

tobiasbro is an avid outdoorsman so it works out for him, but he'll just buy $300 of beer or so at a time in idaho and bring it back

I've heard of people doing that.  You would have to be traveling for other reasons like your bro or just be a raging alcoholic to make the drive worth it.

tdaver does it make living in Utah suck?  Why are you in Utah?

I would struggle if my alcohol choices were limited.

Beer drinkers that don't like beer love Boulevard Wheat.  Its not that its any better of a wheat, its that its drinkers won't get made fun of as opposed to ordering that Woodchuck cider that they really want.

blvd wheat is a good fruity summer beer.

They are very good at what they do.  Probably a tad pricey for their high end stuff but it's still really good.

For me it's really only an inconvenience, one more dumb Utah thing to laugh about, but I only drink 3-4 beers a week at most.  If that's what I have to deal with to have a great job in a location with awesome mountains and outdoor activities practically in my backyard, so be it.

Guys do you associate certain beers with certain activities and memories?  Like you're enjoying a Alaskan Amber on some rando Tuesday and you're like "man I remember drinking one of these after a hunt in the Highland Mountains" ???  I love that.

I associate beers with people more than I do events. I have palate for all types, so I tend to drink different types of beers with different friends.

I like Boulevard Wheat. I like it more than Pyramid's Hefe, which is the main one you see out here. I also like Pale Ale as a way to get a little hops in the summer without being too heavy.

Is franziskaner hefe-weisse a non-snobby beer? If so that is my favorite.

Smithwicks would be in 2nd place.
Where did you get that overnight bag?

Tried the new Miller beer this weekend. It's supposed to be whiskey flavored. It isn't really, but if you like whiskey and you like cheap beer, you'll enjoy it.

probably gonna crush a thousand miller lites tomorrow.  tonight will be a classier, spur-of-the-moment decision (i just had the value of one mortgage payment added to my alcohol budget for march)
