Weiser thinks team names should be removed from the selection committee's databases and discussion, and use codes for each team instead, to ensure that conference affiliations and personal biases are truly removed from the equation.
That might be the
dumbest thing I've ever heard an athletic director say. Really. "So, committee, you cannot base your decision on any games you've watched this year. Nope. Only on which RPI lost/won against other RPIs." We all know how trustworthy the RPI is, right? If tourney selection were all about a computerized ranking (like, you know, the RPI), we wouldn't have had a chance in hell of getting picked for the tourney. It wouldn't be possible to do a blind selection WITHOUT some kind of raking - the committee members' heads would explode. Here's a better idea - get a balanced committee (call me crazy, but maybe the Big 12 should be represented in some way) and implement some checks and balances so that teams with laughable resumes like Illinois and Arkansas don't make it in.
