I love how Huggs was being sarcastic about having any suggestions and he just launched into a huge gameplan he thought up.

"Roy Williams didn't like zone."- Petro

"Roy played zone against us in the great 8 for the entire second half". -Huggs.   :D

Huggs sounds like he's reading the paper while trying to maintain very little attention to the questions.  Man he's one sarcastic SOB....which I redily admire!

It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

I tuned it right when he was done talking about UT apparently.  I got there when they were talking about the tickets.

So, what exactly did he say about the gameplan vs UT?

How many games do you have to win - of the remaining 9 - to be assured a NCAA berth?

Huggs- "Nine".

Will you watch the Super Bowl?

Huggs: (audible sigh) "Yes".

He had Petro just stuttering and stammering.  Hilarious.  You KNOW Petro got off the phone and just cursed Huggs fo being so bland.

I love how Huggs makes interviewers absolutley terrified of him. I could just picture the look on Petro's face when Huggs said, "I don't want to hear you talk about Roy like that."

Not much really.  He asked Petro what he'd do and Petro went into a stuttering spiel about a mixture of zone and man.

Higgs said:  "Yea".

Gotta love Hugg's style.

Maybe Prince can take some notes on how to do an interview Huggie style?

We got Petro's gameplan for UT.  Huggs didn't show his cards at all.

Keitz is an entertainer.  He is great at entertaining.

Petro fancies himself a junior x's and o's guru.  He sucks at X's and O's.

Yeah, Petro acts like he spent 10-15 years coaching basketball, football, and baseball sometimes.  Maybe even hockey on the side, though I will give him that he doesn't claim soccer.

Kietz does radio like he's a fan, and he's just as reactionary as your average fan which leads to the preposterous statements he sometimes makes.  However, I agree he's a very good entertainer.  I can live without turning on Petro, though I will listen, but I try to listen to Kietz's show when I can b/c its fun to listen to most of the time.

Does anyone here think that we will ever get to a point where the interviews with Huggins aren't completely filled with awkward silence?

Based on Huggins' ability to switch from sarcasm to blunt honesty in the blink of an eye....my guess is no.  The interviewers will always be confused.

Stan: "so coach, you're down at the half. what kind of adjustments do you need to make to get back in this game?"
Huggs: *glares* "we need to play better defense"
Stan: "ye' ye' yes masta."

It's easy to see why certain members of the press might hate Huggins if they had to cover him on a consistent basis.

Also, some of the best interviews I've heard are the pregame interviews with Wyatt or Stan - they usually go unnoticed by most.

Before the MU game:

Stan:  Now that you're playing the Nortards a second time, is your preparation any different?

Huggs:  *long pause*........no...........we pretty much do the exact same things we normally would.

Before the ISU game:

Wyatt:  How will ISU defend you?

Huggs:  Well, they'll probably just stand in the lane and watch us miss shots like everyone else.

I'm guessing that Huggins gets many a chuckle about toying with the media while he's alone in his office.

He can weave a tapestry of sarcasm, dry humor, and blunt honesty that is simply amazing.

Some guy over at the phog is claiming that Huggins compares unfavorably to the likes of Parcells and Bob Knight based on what he's seen in interviews.  Let me know when Huggins hangs up on succsessive Big XII media conference calls and has had half of the on-court antics of Knight.
