The biggest thing against the press is to have a supporting cast along with the guards that can handle the ball as well, and compotently throw over the top of the press.

It's also just about playing smart, stepping through double teams, and avoiding the corners.

I've read the thread and don't see what alternatives you are suggesting instead of starting Stew at the PG spot.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

You can't be racist and like basketball.
And I don't see Huggins treating him with kid gloves at all, I don't know that he treats anyone on this team with kid gloves.

The mere notion that Huggins handles anyone with "kid gloves" is possibly one of the most ridiculous things ever posted on this board.

I think KK is cool with that, as long as we don't suggest he does anything positive, other than shoot open threes.

Fair enough, Rain Man* can nail open 3's all day.

I don't see how relying on Huggins own comments is hiding behind his skirt.  If he was some coach known for coach speak and cliche, perhaps, but that's simply not the case.

Stewart has plenty of intangibles.  His assist numbers do need to be better, but he's doing what is asked of him.  He prepares better than any player on this team and knows what to expect of any opponent.  He is asked to bring the ball up the floor and initiate the offense far more than any other player, and he doesn't have a ton of TOs doing so.  He is hitting shots, and even better he's attacking and getting the foul line.  He's playing with confidence and his teammates and coaches trust him.  Some of those things don't show up in the numbers, but if you've watched K-State basketball for any amount of time its something we haven't had since Larry Reid.  Reid was a much better player, but Stewart has stepped up to the challenge and showing to be a capable Big 12 PG.

I have a feeling if anyone suggested to Huggins his team was winning in spite of Clent Stewart he would call them an idiot.  That's a rediculous statement.

Good luck in medical school.
It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

stewart having great intangibles is like your date having a good personality.

huggs likes him because he's a good kid that gives his all, he just sucks.  and there's no option that is significantly better.

He doesn't suck, please read above. Do you expect Jake Pullen to come in next year and dominate the Big XII?  You should learn to like Rain Man.

    I survived the Dickey/Parrish era.
I was fortunate enough to see the victory in Columbia a couple of weeks back and predict a similar outcome on Wednesday night.  Though MIZZOU has won a couple now, they still are not a fundamentally good basketball team.  Our defensive pressure in Columbia forced them to look bad and play worse.  Down by 10 at half, they found a couple of spurts in the second half to make it closer (one very bad missed dunk...) but we took them out of their game for most the afternoon.  Throw in a rabid student section and the outcome can be much better in Manhattan.  I'm thinking 12 -- 18 if we're shooting free throws the last two minutes of the game.

By the way, I'm looking for tickets to the game on Wednesday.... any tix out there?

lol at this thread.  especially kk with the statistics.  great stuff.
"these are no longer “games” in the commonly accepted sense of the term. these are free throw shooting contests leavened by the occasional sprint to the other end of the floor."

In conclusion:  I believe in the scientific method while everyone else believes that they know better by ignoring any statistics in favor of trying to figure out how good Clent Stewart is through Huggins quotes.

So basically, I am like totally brilliant and way too smart for you dudes to understand.

Suck it losers!

we're discussing the various degrees of stewart's sucking on the court.

here's the fact --- for all the bubble scenarios that have been tossed about on this board, a loss saturday and next week will roll around with everyone on here bemoaning a lost season with an outside shot at the nit.

It all started when someone said Clent had a good game against Mizzou.  Then I said he didn't.  Then ksu_fan started defending him saying that he does more than just shoot threes and that he runs the offense well.  Then I posted his 3pt and asst/TO ratio in conference play.  Then it was "he defends well" then I posted the point totals of backcourts that we've played against.  Then it was Huggins says he is playing well and if I don't like it I should complain to Huggins.  Then I gave up.

Perhaps KK missed that Taylor and others scored many of their points after the game was "decided", or that Clent had very little to do with defending them.

I would say that if Huggs thinks he's playing ok...I'm good with it.

i think kk's point was precisely that clent has had very little to do with guarding folks.

I think KK's point was that Clent Stewart banged KK's girlfriend in the anal area and he harbors a deep resentment towards "Stew" for it.

That 90% of the basketball threads on this board end up off topic?  Someone open up a Clent/Blake Stewart/Young thread please.

By the way, either one of them will play well enough for us to beat MIZZOU.

I love how every time I post some sort of data someone has some great anecdotal evidence to discredit it with.  Post when the points were scored or give me some evidence that clent wasn't guarding him.  I'll happily admit I'm wrong when someone (Clent Stewart or otherwise) surfaces with some piece of evidence to combat what I've said.

Its much easier to take pot-shots at my numbers then to attempt to actually refute them, if you do so successfully then I'll stop my Clent hate-a-thon.

Taylor, I believe, scored all his points in the last 10 minutes of the game, if not, I know it was in the 2nd half...

He was also guarded by Akeem most of the time, if I'm not mistaken...as were most of those you pointed out.

I'm not trying to "fight" you...I just don't get why you can't or won't take what Huggins says to heart...it's not like this is Prince-speak...if Huggs though Clent was suckin' balls, he'd say so.
