Mark it down.

In the next 4 poles, KSU plays nubb home and away (both wins), @cyclowns (win), buttaloes (win), @tech and @land thieves (should both be wins), and misery at home (win).  Should be 7 games, 7 wins.  None of these teams are ranked.  Only misery is receiving votes.  No home cooking this time around, though.

In that time,
#10 ut plays #1 gay u.
#9 dook plays #19 georgia tech & @nc
#8 georgetown plays #2 villanova and #4 syracuse
#7 purdue plays @#5 mich st., @#18 ohio st, and home agains #5 mich st
#6 w. virgina plays #21 pitt, #2 nova, and @#21 pitt, and @ uconn
#5 mich st. plays @#16 wisconsin, vs #7 purdue, #18 ohio st, and @#7 purdue
#4 syracuse plays @ #8 georgetown, and vs #2 nova
#3 kentucky plays home and away against #14 tennessee, and @#20 vanderbilt
#2 nova plays @#8 georgetown, @#6 w. virgina, @#21 pitt, and @#4 syracuse.
#1 gay u plays @#10 texass

Half of the top 10 plays a team higher ranked than them right now.

Hell, it isn't impossible KSU could be #1 or #2 by the end of the month. Unlikely, as pieces would have to fall in order, such as the lower ranked teams losing first to allow us space to go up before the big boys in the top 4 lose.  #1 or #2 losing doesn't make us jump them unless we've made our way up to right behind them.  Longshot, but not impossible. :bballonlyfan:

There is way too much optimism going on right now.  This equates to losses.   :ohno:

For the stars to align like you speak of, you have to use some reverse board psychology.  Thought you guys would have learned this by now.

Props on the homework though.  You've cost us at least one win with this post but I appreciate your hard work.

we will not be #1 or 2 with 4 losses right now. #4 at very most.
Realistically number #6 probably. Even if we were to beat ku in lawrence we would still be behind them too. but really who cares. Lets take a 2 or 3 seed in march and go play.

    Hi Brett
Out of those 7 games you speak of we will lose one due to poor free throw shooting.  That has and will continue to be a problem for us.

I'm not even sure I want us to be a top 3 team. For one, I don't think our team would be able to handle that pressure. For two, being ranked around 10 keeps us hungry, it makes us improve. As long as we are a top 3 seed come march I'll be happy.

#5 and #8 go down in successive nights with KSU taking care of business.  We'll pass G-Town, but probably not Mich St, considering they lost to a ranked team.  USF (unranked) beat G-town.  Mich St plays Purdue next week.  We'll pass whichever one loses (assuming we don't completely crap our pants against isu or cu).  We'll also pass texass if/when they lose to  :ku: next Monday.  west virginia might lose to Nova that night.  That could put us up to #6 come the pole after next.

This is kstate we are talking about, so we will lose one of those next 7 games.

If we somehow manage not to mess up, I would realistically think we could crack #5 given the right circumstances.  I don't see us managing to move up higher than that, but until this team actually does win those 7 games, we might as well not worry about it.

From here on out, there will likely be an unexpected loss or two.  Winning on the road in this conference is damned tough.  But I could easily see K-State finishing the season in the top 10 and getting a 3 seed.

Great thread. I tend to agree with several here. Hope Cats don't get pushed to far up to fast. This young team still has up side going into the NCAA tourney. Hope they continue to work hard and develope. Next 7 weeks tough but all winable. Our freshman are in the early stages of showing some maturation.  :kstatriot:

    IT'S DIVISION ONE FOOTBALL!!!
Some people underestimate the difficulty of winning road games.  The uk game last night is a great example.  I will be very surprised if we win the next seven.

I'd be very happy to only lose 1 of the next 7 games.  We could easily lose 2.  Cannot take any Big 12 road game for granted, except for maybe Nebraska.  (Wow, Doc and his Euro-tards are just awful.)

The remaining games I'm most worried about:
1.  @uk (well, I'm more counting on a loss than worried)
2.  @TT
3.  @ISU

A win this weekend would vault us solidly back into the top 10 with a good chance of staying there for the rest of the season.

I'm hoping for an 11-5 finish, then advance past our rival to the Big 12 finals for a shot at the championship, then a Sweet 16 or maybe Elite 8.

Quit being so optimistic. We are KITN State University, where an Oklahoma State-kind of loss is always waiting to happen.

Having said that, I predict a loss this Saturday in Ames. If they backdoor us like Nebraska did, they'll get layups all day. NU had so many easy bunnies that they missed, it was frightening. Iowa State will not miss those same shots. Of course, we might think of stopping the backdoors, but our overplaying on defense leaves us vulnerable to that sort of stuff.

We'll also lose at ku and either tech or ou. Hell, maybe both. Nothing surprises me anymore. We could finish 8-8 or we could go 11-4. Things have been going so well so far that a colossal collapse surely is in the works, right?

Someone give me a Prozac to go with my glass half-empty drink....

Who else?  Texas and K-State will meet as the 2 and 3 seeds in the semis.

@ou scares me more than tt or isu.  underperforming talent usually steps up in "big" games.  though not sure if ou considers anyone outside of tex big.

Weekly roundup:  #10, #8, #2, and #5 (twice) go down.  Will pass 10 and 5.  Maybe 8, since they beat 2.  Duke played better teams this week, so will probably unbreak our tie in AP in their favor.  Look for us to be #8 in both.

#4 plays Sunday, but a loss won't affect us this week, and they won't lose anyway.

Bump

Didn't do too bad on this one.  Now beat uk and there's a chance we pull into the top 3.  I think we'd pass Duke (not many votes behind them now), and possibly gay u.  In that scenario, we have a shot at a #1 seed if we make it to the finals in the Phillips.
