Thought I'd share some news that hasn't already been posted for once :)

http://www2.kusports.com/news/2006/nov/07/giles_cited_battery/?mens_basketball

Looks as though the Giles second-chance program may be ending early ... and it better.  The kid has blown too many opportunities to get more chances.

That's what's hilarious.  We hire "Thuggins" and they promptly get put on probation, kick a kid off the team, reinstate him after another kid gets hurt, then have him arrested for battery in less than a week.

I really don't care about this crap, but the irony is wonderful.

The NCAA said Kansas "demonstrated a failure to exert a lack of appropriate institutional control" over a six-year period....

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

Squawklogic:  Most ku fans think this is totally unacceptable.

That's great . . . but what you don't get is that it just keeps happening.   I laugh at this stuff because of all the years of hearing "well we just wouldn't bring in that kind of kid here at ku" . . . just like then, the police blotter in Lawrence just keeps getting lit up by the resident Squawk Athletic thugs.

In other ku police blotter news:

Quote
"A Kansas University pole vaulter has been arrested for aggravated battery in connection with a beating last week that sent one of his teammates to the hospital. John K. McDonald, 19, a sophomore from Hays, is due in court for a first appearance Nov. 17"

Having thought about this for a little while, I have to hand it to Giles.

The kid was on the verge of losing his entire future when someone (Kaun) stepped in, got hurt, and forced Self's hand at offering Giles another chance. Giles didn't let the second chance get in his way of beating up a girl.  You've got to respect that kind of stick-to-it-iveness.  Giles should be named a starter for ku within the next 2-3 hrs.

I'm personally very disappointed with many of the offcourt developments in the last several years at my alma mater (oncourt in March, too).  I am hopeful that things have changed since Lew Perkins took over as our AD.  Also hopeful that Self's ability to be more picky about the recruits he goes after helps him weed out potentially troublesome players.  Self was essentially forced to recruit Giddens because Roy had.  And Giles was during a time that Self was rushed to sign a big class, IIRC.  I don't think we ku fans have the right to call any other school "thug" anything until we get our act straightened out a bit.  But I do think it's a bit extreme to call ku "thug" anything either.

"extreme" and "fun" aren't mutually exclusive.
"these are no longer “games” in the commonly accepted sense of the term. these are free throw shooting contests leavened by the occasional sprint to the other end of the floor."

Obviously, they haven't.

Self was essentially forced to recruit Giddens because Roy had.

That's a bunch of crap.  He could have easily dropped Giddens.  It happens all the time.

And Giles was during a time that Self was rushed to sign a big class, IIRC.

You already had Simien on the team and Kaun and Jackson wrapped up.  How was Self "rushed" to sign Giles?

Not quite.

Exactly!  Beating up women just doesn’t cut the mustard.  Beating up a horse, on the other hand, gets you bonus points...

UC was in the final 2 to fet Giles out of HS. That would be sweet if he transferred to KSU, he is a damn good player.
