We can't hire him for the same reason we can't put a bigger video board on top of Vanier.
But we had Mangino.
Plus I always laughed at the wind loading, weight crap.
LED videoboards weigh about 50% less than what the old CRT boards weighed. They can just remove the old speakers and what not and put in a wider board, and they wouldn't have to make it any taller, just wider. It's dumb that they they have a 63 foot wide board at the closed end of the stadium, but a 23 foot wide board at the open end of the stadium.
it is not a weight issue, it is a load issue. A larger board with a larger surface area will greatly increase the wind loading on the structure. The building was not designed for this, therefore without a secondary support structure or a major revamping of the Vanier structure, there will be no giant video board.
Well . . . this is taking away the theme of the thread.
But I am not talking about a "giant" video board. The old speaker housings are of significant size are they not?? In fact one could reasonably assume that if the wind is coming from the South it is flowing through the speaker screens and hitting the metal wall at the back, when the wind is coming from the North it is flowing right up against the back wall of those speaker housings. What I am talking about doing is simply removing those and installing an LED screen (which comes in individual LED modules that are then put together) across the area where the old speaker housing were, and no higher than the existing screen. In fact, you could remove the scoreboard below, and lower the profile of the whole thing and use one section of the LED videoboard as the scoreboard during the game just like they do on the South videoboard.
But the in reality, the best thing to do would be to remove that entire structure and declutter the roof of Vanier, and build 2 videoboard/message board structures in the Northeast and Northwest corners of the stadium, at a slight angle in relation to the stands/field. I'd say something along the lines of 2 30 foot wide x 20 foot high HD LED boards with ribbon message boards on Top and Bottom for advertising and what not, limestone structures with Powercat logos on the back . . . Mega Elite, they could probably leverage advertising dollars to make that happen.
