Anyone else following this crap? First NBC forces Leno to retire 5 years down the line and promises the Tonight Show to Conan, so Conan wouldn't accept job offers elsewhere. Then they put Leno ahead of Conan(again) in the 9 PM timeslot. Now they want to move Leno to 10:30 and push Conan and the Tonight show back to 11. NBC is fracking f'd up.

Conan should just tell NBC to go &@#% themselves, remember these are the retards who pay Notre Dame millions and millions of $ each year so we can all enjoy the suckage together, as a family.

It sounds like this is what he's planning to do.

Seems like he is using this kinda as a bargaining chip. What does NBC have if Conan bolts? Leno won't live forever. Just make Leno retire(from NBC anyway) and let Conan do his thing.

I think Jeff Zucker has proven that he isn't exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer... I could see him letting Conan walk away.

    I'm with Coco.
Quote
People of Earth:

In the last few days, I’ve been getting a lot of sympathy calls, and I want to start by making it clear that no one should waste a second feeling sorry for me. For 17 years, I’ve been getting paid to do what I love most and, in a world with real problems, I’ve been absurdly lucky. That said, I’ve been suddenly put in a very public predicament and my bosses are demanding an immediate decision.

Six years ago, I signed a contract with NBC to take over The Tonight Show in June of 2009. Like a lot of us, I grew up watching Johnny Carson every night and the chance to one day sit in that chair has meant everything to me. I worked long and hard to get that opportunity, passed up far more lucrative offers, and since 2004 I have spent literally hundreds of hours thinking of ways to extend the franchise long into the future. It was my mistaken belief that, like my predecessor, I would have the benefit of some time and, just as important, some degree of ratings support from the prime-time schedule. Building a lasting audience at 11:30 is impossible without both.

But sadly, we were never given that chance. After only seven months, with my Tonight Show in its infancy, NBC has decided to react to their terrible difficulties in prime-time by making a change in their long-established late night schedule.

Last Thursday, NBC executives told me they intended to move the Tonight Show to 12:05 to accommodate the Jay Leno Show at 11:35. For 60 years the Tonight Show has aired immediately following the late local news. I sincerely believe that delaying the Tonight Show into the next day to accommodate another comedy program will seriously damage what I consider to be the greatest franchise in the history of broadcasting. The Tonight Show at 12:05 simply isn’t the Tonight Show. Also, if I accept this move I will be knocking the Late Night show, which I inherited from David Letterman and passed on to Jimmy Fallon, out of its long-held time slot. That would hurt the other NBC franchise that I love, and it would be unfair to Jimmy.

So it has come to this: I cannot express in words how much I enjoy hosting this program and what an enormous personal disappointment it is for me to consider losing it. My staff and I have worked unbelievably hard and we are very proud of our contribution to the legacy of The Tonight Show. But I cannot participate in what I honestly believe is its destruction. Some people will make the argument that with DVRs and the Internet a time slot doesn’t matter. But with the Tonight Show, I believe nothing could matter more.

There has been speculation about my going to another network but, to set the record straight, I currently have no other offer and honestly have no idea what happens next. My hope is that NBC and I can resolve this quickly so that my staff, crew, and I can do a show we can be proud of, for a company that values our work.

Have a great day and, for the record, I am truly sorry about my hair; it’s always been that way.

Yours,

Conan

He should go to another network. It wouldn't KO NBC and he may benefit from it. I don't know that there is a network that would specifically fit him anyways.

not very forward thinking by NBC. I remember reading that Conan has the best numbers from the younger audience.

maybe this is karma for not giving the job to letterman.

Fox is "interested" i think. Not sure how well another talk show would do. I mean with Lopez joining the ranks now, there are getting to be too many around. I would watch him wherever he went though.

Yeah, he is not getting near the number Letterman gets. But Conan gets more in the younger demographic which advertisers like.

Welp, tonight is Conan's last show. Take it in while you can!

http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/conan-obrien-day-tonight-show/story?id=9631837

Yeah glad I saw this. What a bunch of dumb&@#%s at NBC to not give Conan what he is owed--the Tonight Show without some garbage Leno stunt immediately prior. I'll watch Conan wherever he shows up next, NBC just doesn't haven't the smarts or the cash to keep him. This whole situation is sadly similar to KSU v. Martin & Co.

Don't watch a lot of late night tv. But, is there a person more deserving of super show biz eliteness than Norm McDonald?  How is he not a multi-gazzilionare?  The guy is amazing.

His pauses at his own hilariousness add to the hilarity!  (should note that my favorite late night person is Jimmy Fallon for the same reason)

:barf: you'd think that after ten years on popular late-night tv he might get the hang of it and stop being awkward and embarrassingly un-funny, but you'd be wrong. you'd be wrong.

I'm so bummed right now. Conan is by far my favorite late-night personality and he's getting &@#%ed over by a failing 4th rated NBC station. I hope Conan can replace David Letterman on CBS and be a true competitor to Jay.

Thats a good point, he was involved with the last NBC clusterf*ck and probably doesn't want anything to do with this one.

I don't watch Conan or Leno, I'm a Letterman guy, but it seems unfair that they can give Conan the Tonight Show and just take it away from him. It's not his fault that Leno was a gigantic failure.

Conan's show was pretty elite last night. Loved the Will Ferrell cowbell at the end
