    warm up the EMAW
1.  Its been said before:  this is a pre-season game.  I'm not worried, etc.  After sitting through EA Sports losses this doesn't even hit my 'scary radar.'

2.  The line-up is probably not the one we will see during non-con and certainly not the one we'll see in january.

3.  That said, Washburn having three players in double figures rebounding is a slight concern.  One of them was a guard, were we playing alot of zone?

4.  Clent Stewart gets hated on alot and some of it is deserved, but we've got to just start realizing that he is what he is: mediocre:

Player      fgm-fga   fgm-fga   ftm-fta   off-def   tot   pf   tp   a   to   blk   stl   min
Stewart, Clent    3-11    2-8    3-4    0-7    7    1    11    3    2    0    0    41

He can't shoot too well.  He hits his free-throws, he can chase down an occaisonal rebound and his 3-2 ratio means he can hold onto the ball for 41 minutes without completely pooping himself.  Does he have a tendency to play weak and shy away from contact especially at the end of games?  Yes, and but he is only an average point guard and he really doesn't turn it over that much.

his asst/to career #s (per kstatesports in case manhatter is reading)
2005-2006  85-57 1.49
2004-2005  116-70 1.65

for comparison
Mario Chalmers  127-93 1.36
Russell Robinson 152-73 2.08

The main difference is Clent's below average defense and average scoring ability.

5.  Cartier is the team.  I think we all kind of knew this going in, but so goes C-Mart, so goes...If he's on we can still lose games, but when he has an occaisonal off-day it is bad-news.

I did a quick look at our losses from last year and Cartier's #s:

Wash St.
6-17fg 21 points (8-11ft)
N. Illinois
7-13fg 15 points (0-0ft) 4fouls, everyone was in foul trouble this game
Iowa St.
7-15fg 3-5 3ptfg 21 points
Neb.
0-6 2ptfg 4-9 3pt 8-8ft 20points
Colorado
7-15 5-8 3 24 points
Baylor
5-16fg 4-6ft 15 points
Missouri
7-12, 3-7 3pt 19 points
Tech
4-14 15 points
Texas
1-7 17mins fouled out
Oklahoma
10-14fg 2-3 3 4-4ft 26 points is this really a loss?
ku
5-12fg 3-5 3 4-6ft 17points (only Wildcat in double figures)
3-9 0-4 3 10 points

6.  The development of Bennet, Colon, Merrieweather, Walker, Young and the bench (kent, yearby) will be HUGE.  Look at ku last year for example.  Many people were worried about Chalmers development at the beginning, but he blossomed into a legit All-Big XII Defensive Team and All-BigXII 3rd team.  Rush was freshman of the year.  Anyone see what I'm getting at here...... :)

4 for 30 from 3 won't get it done.  Ever.  If you're going to shoot 30, you better make at least 10.

Our offensive performance was by far the biggest disappointment.  I understand we're putting in a new system and there will be growing pains, but WU's defense isn't that good either.  That said, our defense wasn't great either.  Sounds like an ugly game to put behind us quickly and hopefully the right lessons were learned.  I'm glad I didn't have a chance to watch or listen.

The offense reaked of Colon...man, that guy was horrid. sitting 20 feet from the bench and the basket, i saw him miss many rebounds, get shoved around and even saw him yawn on his way up the court. dont give me the true freshman crap, he got owned. he's out of shape too. BIG time.

stewart lost the ball with seconds left....and even my grandma can " chase down the occasional rebound" i dont want to hear crap about coming off surgery.

it was just a first game. we looked lost and confused in the second half because that isnt the personnel that will be in most of the time. yawn.

I'm just saying that statistically his numbers aren't much different from most other point guards around the country.  he isn't some hapless dribbler constantly turning it over.  I don't like him much either, but the stats bear out that he is no worse than average.

What stinks is his (and the team's) defense, especially at creating turnovers.  Our perimeter defenders might be the worst in the Big XII, certainly the slowest.

dude.  your're insane.  even the stats from just the washburn game don't support your perimeter defense theory.
"these are no longer “games” in the commonly accepted sense of the term. these are free throw shooting contests leavened by the occasional sprint to the other end of the floor."

Last year cartier martin led the team in steals.  He ranked 32nd in the Big XII.

    The very best.
LOL. wtf was that?
It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.
