Saturday is huge.   I can't remember the last time the difference between a W and L was so meaningful. 

To preface, I don't envision a W in Lincoln.  We haven't been very good on the road and Lincoln is a really tough place to play.  So, we're looking at 6-6 or 7-5. 

7-5 puts in a great position to challenge for the North title.  We finish no worse than 2nd in Division.  We go to very nice bowl game.  Snyder wins co-coach of the year with Mack Brown.  Effectively puts K-State football back on the map.  Trickle down effects are boosted recruiting, increase in donations, bolstered fan base, etc.  John Curry will do wonders with that momentum and positve upswing. 


On the other hand, we finish 6-6.  Decent season considering, but we probably finish the season with the same record as ku, MU, and ISU.  And with 6 wins, every team in the North goes to a bowl game except for KSU and CU.  In my mind, this would be a huge set back for our school and this program. 


Realistically, the fan base would turn on Snyder.  Our fans are fickle.  Watching ku and MU go bowling would destroy any goodwiil Snyder has garnered thus far. 

I'm praying for scenario 1.  Scenario 2 will be tough to swallow.

I disagree I don't see the fan base turning on Snyder.  Hell at the begining of the year nobody in their right mind, I repeat in their right mind would have even given KSU a chance at 4 conference wins let alone a bowl game.  No way the fans turn on Snyder all he has done is let us believe in KSU football again. 

That being said we should win this weekend and you #2 is a moot point.

Perhaps they won't "turn on" him.  But, I see our fan base's collective indifference growing rapidly.  Hell, we are one game away from going bowling (on senior day) (with 65 degree weather) and there are 8,000 unsold tickets.

8K doesn't really surprise me that much, this program has had a 42-43K solid fanbase for quite a while. Most sell outs we have had in the 5-6 years have been a result of the traveling team buying up 4-6K or more. If we do go bowling look for another 2-4K bandwagon fans to come back on next season.

I don't think one can underestimate the economy either, I know the media has declared the recession is over but its not where I live. In the Wichita area unemployment is high (9+%) and even people that still have jobs are not spending anything except for essentials because they fear getting laid off. If we make a bowl game I do not see the 20-40K fans traveling we have seen in the past. I know it kind of sucks that Saturday's game isn't a sell out but even last week wasn't a sellout 48+K and that is the first time in ages that the ku game wasn't sold out. I know it sucks, but that is the reality of the situation.

Single game tickets as cheap as $24.75 through the ticket office.  Cheaper tickets through Ebay, Stubhup, craigslist, or good 'ol fashion scalping.

25 bucks is cheap and if you live in Manhattan then all the better but if you have to travel then costs go up quickly. 200+ miles round trip now you are talking  $30 in gas plus 1-2 meals $15-20, parking $10 now you are pushing $80-100 minimum, I live in the Wichita area and I have noticed a lot fewer cars going to the games this year. Exit 303 even with construction has not been nearly the bottleneck it has been in past seasons.

There are reasons the stadium is not full, is some of it apathy? Yes, but don't fool yourself because when disposable income gets tight, things like entertainment are usually the first to go in responsible people's budgeting.

Yes, I will be there as always with my 2 tickets but I for one am not going to pass judgement on others and question their support for the program in these economic times. Just go to the game, cheer for your team and don't worry about things out of your control.

I think apathy has a lot more to do with it than the economy.  I'm not blind to the fact that people are negatively affected by the economy.  I get it.  But good fan bases find a way to support their team regardless.  It helps when you have an AD (see Curry) who sets attractive ticket prices.   

Look at the good teams and the teams with good fan bases (in any sport, in any region).  And they're still packing their stadiums.  Hell, even ku and MU were packing their stadiums at the beginning of the year when they still had hope.

So, the question is, are MU and ku fans more immune to the economic downturn?  Or, are KSU fans simply less interested in their teams?

i could care less if people go to games or not. actually prefer it when they don't. more room for me, less lines for bathroom, etc. that aside-people who pay to park are stupid and you can't count meals. are you only going to be eating if you are in manhattan? are you not going to eat in wichita?

Belvis I really don't know about mizzou but ku does a huge base within 20-30 miles of lawrence with the Kansas City metro area, to the west they have Topeka within 20 miles or so.

Manhattan does not have that, Topeka is 50 miles, Salina 60 miles, Wichita 120 miles, KC 120 miles, Hays 170miles or so, and other western Kansas towns like Garden City, Dodge City & Liberal much further. It does make a big difference with 2.5+/gallon gas.

I know myself the round trip is 250 miles at 18 miles per gallon is around $35 per game in gas alone. No biggie for me but it has had effect on attendance no doubt.

I do not buy the economy as an excuse.

Fast food restaurants have turned a profit in this economy, so no one has stopped eating Big Macs and and Whoppers.

Movies continue to perform well if they are something people want to see (I think the reason this last summer was weaker in terms of box office is because there weren't that many good movies).

The fact is, no matter what the economy is doing, people will still spend money on what they want, provided it is a satisfying product.

That is why I do not understand so many tickets still being available for the Mizzou game.  There is a satisfying product being put on the field.  Why in the hell would we not be sold out?  Quit eating fast food for the season, go to fewer movies in the same time, and you've got enough income to afford a couple of games.

I'm a better fan than pretty much everyone and I've only been to two home games this year.  Some people just can't go to all the games.
