The whole campus is beautiful. The teammates were great, the coaching staff was great. The fans were crazy. They love their basketball and their football.

He fits the system, tall kid who can run the floor.  We can play him at the 1,2, or 3 spots anytime we want, which can give our offense a lot of different looks.  Very versatile player, which is good.  During the UT game some of our best offensive play came when Denis played the off guard and Pullen brought it up, so the extra look we can throw at teams of having Southwell bring it up the floor can be a plus.  Top 150 kid can never hurt.

We have 2 dudes on the current roster that played at Rice, and one committed for 2010.  I'd say that qualifies for pipeline status.

Jermaine Maybank = Goucho. 

Not sure if that is part of the pipeline as we did not have any other gauchos and did not use him to get any more Gauchos.  He was more of a Big East connection that Huggs used I think.

Wildcats nab NYC forward Shane Southwell

According to ESPN.com's Kansas State affiliate, www.KSUfans.com, small forward Shane Southwell verbally committed to the Wildcats over the weekend.

Southwell chose the Wildcats over Marquette, Providence, South Carolina and St. John's.

"I knew I was coming to Kansas State since early September," said Southwell who admits that it was certain relationships that made him commit. "I had the the best relationship with a head coach with Coach Martin. I also knew Jordan Henriquez and Curtis Kelly from before."

ESPN.com Recruiting Coordinator John Stovall has the scoop on Southwell.

"Shane's a skilled small forward that can really pass and create his offense versus bigger players. He's very good playing a 'point forward' position, which is where his AAU team - The New York Gauchos - often plays him."

Southwell's size and versatility presents matchup problems all over the court, according to Stovall.

"He's too quick for bigger players to guard and too big for smaller players to guard. He demands a double team and can easily find teammates for shots. He's got nice length and is a solid basketball athlete.

"Shane is a decent scorer but is a pass first type of player. He's got a streaky jumpshot with range to 19 feet. He's also a solid rebounder for his position and is great at grabbing rebounds and then leading the break.

"Shane should be solid for Kansas State and is a 'glue guy' that many teams have that help them win championships.

He was the second prospect to pick K-State over the weekend, following Class of 2011 forward Nino Williams (Leavenworth, Kan./Leavenworth H.S.).
