good "foods" in order:

1) jamaican- love jerk chicken. love, love, love it. scotch bonnet peppers are amazing.

2) mexican- tacos, burritos, peppers, sauces, nachos...all good.

3) italian- is pizza actually italian? if so, this is #3 on my list. if not replace this crap country w/ chinese food.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

bad "foods" in order

1) german- just sounds bad. doubt i would like this countries food. big sausages and kraut type stuff i bet. sounds gross.

2) indian- some good, many bad. dislike the bad so much that i cannot recommend this countries food.

3) cuban- don't let the name fool you. this is not good food. very bland. very bland indeed. not "tasty".

Italian is the best, if you include pizza. If no pizza, Italian takes a back seat to Mexican. In third place, you have Pop Tarts. All other foods are crap compared to top 3.

Really kind of a dumb thread.  Any of these foods we are listing are generally not reflective of the actual food served in that country.  For instance generally any chinese you get here is nothing like chinese in China.

FWIW Pizza isn't really Italian, pizza as we know was invented in New York City.

How would you classify American food anyways?

Hot dogs? Hamburgers?

:flush: I mean ya i'll scarf em down but they are bland and flavorless compared to other countries foods.

I think i'd have to go w/ Northern Indian, Thai, or Mediterranean food as my faves.  maybe Ethiopian if I try some more of that, really enjoyed.  Also like "real" mexican food, not tex-mex.

Not dumb, just needs a different label.  For example, "American Chinese" instead of Chinese.

Oh jeez Saul.  Authentic food from other countries is garbage.  The American versions of that authentic crap is ridiculously better.

Pizza, steaks, Mac N Cheese, BBQ (that's why the ? was next to American after I listed BBQ), chili, meatloaf, pot roast, turkey and stuffing, bacon, mashed potatos, meat loaf, pot roast, chicken fried steak, the breakfast burrito, breakfast sandwiches, buffalo wings, boneless buffalo wings, most potato products (f^ck you ireland)....pretty much all stuff that can't be put in a category.  I mean, most of this stuff is English or some other Euro country in origin but is now American.

adendum:  Most of the great sandwiches

No kidding.  During some glorious Spring Break trips to the South Padre/Matamoros metroplex area, I ordered some tacos in a little hole in the wall restaraunt.  They tried to pawn off some dog meat tacos covered with what may have been goat cheese, and garnished with a tasty little slice of avocado.  I was like GMAFB, now run to the back and get me some of those tacos that are dripping with sour cream, guacamole sauce, and diced tomatoes!!!!

Also, didn't we have a rash of food threads in the past month or so??

Matamoros makes me feel very sad just looking at it.  If anyone ever goes to S. Padre I highly recommend never crossing the border.  Stay on the good (American) side.

*spanish - is a sep. cat. because they have great ingredients but their natural cookery/combos are poor.  the food of almost anywhere else can be improved with spanish ingredients, but you shouldn't eat in a spanish restaurant.

Gee all those countries you are talking about pretty much eat mushy rice with ants and beetles don't they?  If they can find a sick opossum to throw in with it then bonus.  Maybe a rat on a stick and then tell the Americans oh that's terriaki chicken, you like? Here have some smashed up beans that we cooked a couple of times they are re-fried beans.  Just grind some hot peppers in there the Americans will love it.

No thanks I'll eat my BBQ and Hamburgers made from dead animals right here in the U.S.A.

1) Mexican
2) Mexican
3) Mexican
4) Southern Cooking (i.e. Chicken Fried anything, Fried [insert meat or vegetable], biscuts and gravy, etc.]
5) Thai

As of about nine months ago, I didn't really care for Thai, but for some reason, in the past year, I really, really started to crave it.

Bad foods:

1) Indian
2) True Eastern European food (Some German, Russian, etc.) - When I'd go back to Central Kansas to visit my family, everything had cabbage in it.  My dad tried to get me to eat beet soup one time (Borscht?), and I told him to KMA.
3) Canadian - They put mayo on everything.  It's disgusting.  And who eats ketchup flavored potato chips?

Quote
Culinary origin

Belgium
Belgian historian Jo Gerard recounts that potatoes were already fried in 1680 in the Spanish Netherlands, in the area of "the Meuse valley between Dinant and Liège, Belgium. The poor inhabitants of this region allegedly had the custom of accompanying their meals with small fried fish, but when the river was frozen and they were unable to fish, they cut potatoes lengthwise and fried them in oil to accompany their meals.
Quote
France
Many Americans attribute the dish to France — although in France they are almost exclusively thought of as Belgian

Well, I think we all know now who asks dumb questions and who doesn't.
