1)  most do not seem to understand why asprilla might have to attend a juco.
2)  apparently none realize that a juco loi does not preclude the signee from accepting a scholarship from a d1 school.

followup:  Does he really want to burn that Miami Trops bridge?  I mean, the Trops have been filled with suck lately but you really want to keep that door open, right?  Or, will it even matter to Art?

thought about it a bit, and the thomas position is logically sound.  hardball asprilla, and he might get 3 years of a dominant sun belt player.  let him go to maintain aa's favor and he gets nothing more than the chance to recruit tropics players - he's not going to become aa's bff just by declining to &@#% over one of his players, so he's still going to be last in line behind all of aa's true bffs, and at a low major school.

the chances that he would be able to get a similar quality player from the tropics in the next few years would be minuscule.  and presumably thomas is looking to move on within 3-5 years or so.

imo, it's all lose/lose for Thomas.  the only thing he could gain out of it is Aspirlla deciding to stay, which won't happen.  Thomas is just showing why, when he's not in a uniform, he's f'ing terrible at this basketball thing.

Thomas will do okay at FIU and get a better job at a bigger school based on name recognition and bury himself there.

When will we find out about the appeal?

...trashes FIU as being a second rate program ...

LOL.. FIU isn't even a second rate program.  Second rate programs have cheerleaders and don't play in high school gyms.

I recall something about an appeal board to see if he can get a release.

asprilla's request for a release hasn't been denied yet, afaik.  the ad said he would deny it a long time ago, but no new info has come out since then.

if fiu does refuse to grant a release, i believe asprilla could appeal to an fiu faculty committee which would review the ad's decision.  if they approve the ad's decision, then i think there is some sort of ncaa appeal, but i'd guess that there would have to be some procedural or outstanding reason to overturn the school's decision for the appeal to be granted.  not just an "it doesn't seem fair".  otherwise the ncaa would not have vested the decision in the schools to start with.

rivals update claims that asprilla has retained an attorney and is pursuing an appeal.

the update author doesn't have a great accuracy track record.  hopefully he gets this one right.

FIU decided Tuesday to play North Carolina as scheduled Nov. 9 in the Coaches vs. Cancer tournament, ending several uneasy days where the Golden Panthers were so displeased with the matchup that they considered pulling out of the event entirely. For months, FIU worked under the assumption that it would play Ohio State in the opening round.

It's like he's trying to fail.
