MWC proposes playoff

Mountain West Conference commissioner Craig Thompson made his league's case for sweeping changes to the Bowl Championship Series, including a move to an eight-team playoff, in a 90-minute presentation to other conference leaders Tuesday at the BCS meetings.

Also, the BCS coordinator John Swofford dismissed the looming antitrust lawsuit from the Utah Attorney General as having "no impact" on how the MWC's proposal will be considered.

They could probably do this after the Bowls (just remove the National Title tag from the BCS bowls) and then pick the top 8 teams after the bowls have been played. That way teams that had pushover type schedules who get a bowl game that is probably too good for them can get exposed and not waste a good team's spot in the playoffs.

I think 8 is a good amount for it, though.

They could probably do this after the Bowls (just remove the National Title tag from the BCS bowls) and then pick the top 8 teams after the bowls have been played. Easy enough to do.  And it has to be minimum 16 teams.  Drop one non-con from everyone's schedule,  then just play the tournament at existing bowl locations. Play the games at upper-tier bowls for the first 2 rounds, then move on to BCS sites.  Play the actual championship game at a rotating BCS location, just like now.  The remaining bowls would be held just the same as they already are.  No city loses a bowl, no less teams qualify for a bowl, and the extra games would be played during X-Mas break so they won't interfere with school.  Nobody loses money and the fans get what they've always wanted:  a legitimate national champion.
