Why? To read Williams whine and blame Hill/KSU for his inept recruiting?

Let me guess. We're paying Williams a lot of money. Maybe Williams should take a pay cut and hire him or someone else who can recruit. Clearly he can't and isn't deserving of his fat salary.

I just found it interesting.  Also interesting in the fact that Gary and Curtis have tried to improve their relationship recently.

Here are some highlights.....

Then there's Curtis Malone, local summer league coach. Gary Williams is not a fan:

Regarding Malone, Williams said: "Don't tell me Curtis Malone has the right to say whether Gary Williams is a good recruiter or not. I don't want to hear about Curtis Malone. I know what he is," a reference to Malone's criminal record.

In 1991, Malone pleaded guilty to one count of possession of cocaine with intent to distribute. He was sentenced to five months in jail, with all but three months suspended. In 1994, Malone pleaded guilty to reckless driving and attempting to elude a police officer. He was sentenced to six months of unsupervised probation.

Malone's response?

"If these are the things Gary is telling you about me, there is no telling what he is telling his assistants," Malone said. "I can bet you there are 50 other coaches who wouldn't say that about Curtis Malone. I'm going down to Duke; Coach K loves Curtis Malone. I went up to Villanova; me and [Coach] Jay Wright have a great relationship."

The article also goes into Malone's former player and coach Dalonte Hill, who angled for a Maryland assistant coaching gig. Williams didn't hire him, but Bob Huggins did at KSU, and Michael Beasley followed Hill there in what even at the time was considered shady.

There's a reason I ignore college recruiting and it's not out of laziness. There's a seediness involved, and it's getting worse with each passing year. It's almost enough to hope that Williams does get fired, and can actually expose what's going on, because I want to hear more stuff like this:

"To bring Beasley, it cost $450,000, for sure," he said. "We know that. We didn't have $450,000. So we are not going to get Beasley."

When did we give 'Te a 50K bump in salary?  Good work, KSU.

really inaccurate if you consider that Judge and McGruder are also involved.  So it's $133k per and the price goes down everytime Te pulls in another player.

Huggins didn't bring Te in at $400K. That happened when Hugs left.

EP: How would you describe your relationship with that program?
GW: Whatever. We like to get really good players, without a doubt. I’d like to get players from DC Assault. DC Assault is a nationally known program. It’s almost like they are a school. They get recruited on a national basis. People from all over the country don’t go to a high school, they go to DC Assault to recruit players. That’s how that works.

EP: So Dalonte Hill was interested in the assistant job and …
GW: $450,000. That deal went down, that’s a fact. That’s in the newspapers. The guy could not get $450,000 here. We can’t pay it. How are we supposed to get Dalonte Hill to work here?

EP: How about for less than $450,000?
GW: That was the number that he was going to go where he could make a lot of money.

EP: Too much for this school?
GW: Why would he go to Kansas State? He was in Charlotte. How do you go from Charlotte to Kansas State?

EP: $450,000
GW: So you bring Beasley with you. To bring Beasley, it cost $450,000 for sure. We know that. We didn’t have $450,000. So we are not going to get Beasley. Would Beasley have gone to K-State without Dalonte there?

EP: [Bob] Huggins told me he would have gone wherever Dalonte went.
GW: Right. They came up with the top number, I assume.

EP: I know the amount. But knowing that, is it frustrating that you don’t have an opportunity to take advantage of Hill’s potential pipeline because you can’t afford $450,000? A disappointment?
GW: No, I try to get assistants here to help recruit, to help develop players. That is who I have hired. Throughout my career, starting at American U, Fran Dunphy, Ed Tapscott were my assistants … Why do guys get head coaching jobs from my staff? They are good enough to run major college programs. I try to hire the best coaches I can. Because I don’t hire Dalonte Hill, I don’t hire good assistants, is that the premise of this?

EP: I’m wondering if there is a frustration because if you could afford Hill, you get the pipeline to DC Assault. If you can’t, then you can’t get that pipeline?
GW: Yeah, you might. Yeah, you get criticized when you coach for a lot of things. Some of it is justified, some of it is not. You can criticize me for not getting a specific player, but in terms of getting players I think I have, in 20 years, the third most pros in the NBA behind North Carolina and Duke. So if you want to judge it on that, judge in on that. [More statistics to defend program]

Gary Williams needs to get out of coaching.  He's back and forth and ridiculous in this thing..

What part?     He's not saying we gave Mike $450k.  He's saying we were the highest bidder for 'Te.  He's just off about the timing of 'Te's raise.

Gary Williams needs to get out of coaching.  He's just stupid.

No.  Stay Gary.  Please stay.  The ksu basketball program and the environment it's operating in has a "texas and ou football are down and it's easier to get recruits out of there and we have good assistants that can recruit" DOD type feel.

I'm guessing at least once in the off the record parts he was talking about Beasley.  He seems pretty riled up over that stuff.

Yes, hilariously riled up.  I hope he gets the MD fans that still like him to hate Dalonte Hill.

LOL @ Gary Williams and his "we don't have the money".

In FY 2008 Maryland Hoops pulled in $10.3 million in revenue on expenses of $3.5 million.   That would make them one of the most net profitable basketball programs in the country.

He's just one of those guys who thinks that because their program had a "nice little run" that all the recruits were going to fall right into their lap.

No hoops stud is going to sign with a school where the headcoach doesn't even pick up the phone, or doesn't show up to see them when they visit.

gary williams seems racist.
It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

Any great recruiting Williams ever did was luck.  He's a crapty recruiter, who fell ass backwards into some studs.  However, he's the only coach to ever win a national championship without and McDs AA.

And Dalonte owns Gary... (Thanks Curtis!)

Quote
“When I was told about the article, it was a little misconstrued because Gary said it would take a half-million dollars to get me,” Hill said. “When I was interested in the job, I was in my second year at Charlotte and making $65,000 a year.

“I never knew that a college assistant would be paid what I’m being paid. I wasn’t asking for anything out of the ordinary. I just wanted the opportunity. He said he wanted to hire a former player, which I respected.

"That’s why I was hired at Charlotte, because I was a former player,” Hill said. “So, I couldn’t be mad at Coach Williams for hiring Michael Adams. That’s not fair.

“I made $110 or $105 (thousand) dollars when I got (to Kansas State), and that should be public knowledge. So, I don’t know where Gary got that from.”

Apologies to McGrowel.  This is what happens when you aren't around the board for a couple of days.

Gary Williams showing his colors

Why did Jason Williams (Sister school legend) have to go mess up his career by changing his name and wrecking his legs on a motorcycle.  He is disgusting in that vid.
