While much speculation has surrounded whether or not the New England Patriots would use the franchise tag on Matt Cassel for 2009, the Boston Herald has reported a new possibility: Cassel could wind up reuniting with former Patriots vice president of player personnel Scott Pioli in Kansas City.

The Herald's Karen Guregian cites punditry by Sirius NFL radio analyst Jim Miller, who said, "I'd really look at Pioli down there in Kansas City. Why wouldn't he want him? He knows what the kid is capable of doing. So I think he'd be on their radar... If Kansas (City) were to make that deal, that's their Matt Ryan. That's their Joe Flacco. Unlike a [Mark] Sanchez, for instance, they know he's playing at a starter's level. So to them, I think it'd be worth it to do. They'd get their starting quarterback, they know what he's capable of doing, and they've seen him win games at the NFL level."

The Herald lists the New York Jets, Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings, San Francisco 49ers, Carolina Panthers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Chicago Bears as the other suitors for Cassel's services.

I'm good as long as we don't draft a QB no matter what...theres nobody like Matt Ryan or Joe Flacco is this group of young QBs. I think we could get by with Thigpen but I would love to have Cassel in Kansas City.

Anything to improve from last year... :bawl:

I don't have anything against Thigpen but if GMSP can get Cassel and loves him because he knows him I would be cool with that because I trust GMSP. I just don't want to draft either Stafford or Sanchez. Personally I want Curry, the OLB from Wake Forest, but that could be just me.

I don't know, Cassel was in a pretty good offense.  Randy Moss can make you look good.  I mean he hadn't started since high school and has only one year of work to look at.  I am not against Cassel, but I am not officially on board with it.  If Pioli thinks thats our best option then I can live with.

However, I am not against drafting a QB if we address the defense in FA.

IMO, Patriots will probably give him the franchise tag, which would mean KC would have to give up 1st and 3rd round pick in a trade for him, if so - not gonna happen

I don't mind thigpen another year while we get some pieces in place and try and wait for a franchise guy in the draft.

But we may not be in position to get a franchise guy next year.

Yeah, and its 2 first round picks, not a 1st and a 3rd like I thought before, so IMO no way this happens

I was just about to correct you, a franchise tag not only allows the patriots to match the deal (which i think they realize no one will want cassel for 2 1st round draft picks, just in case brady is unavailable which is very likely.  If someone does want Cassel for that much than it would be worth it for two first round picks in two years.)

No way we are willing to give up two first round picks in two years.. one in 09, one in 10.  We will either stick with thigpen if we believe in him... if pioli doesn't, we will draft sanchez.  He knows more than we do, so I trust his judgement.

PS-  Look at the stats of Cassel and Tyler Thigpen...

Matt Cassel is a joke... his stats are just slightly better than Thigpen's with a MUCH better run offense and better o-line to protect him.  If Thigpen was in that situation, he would have excelled more than that.  Not to mention he is a run threat.

There is no reason for us to give up two first round picks for a player that is slightly better than what we have now.  Mark it, Matt Cassel will not even be considered as Chiefs QB.

Thigpin was part of an offense that ran the option in an NFL.  They do not do this with a QB they see as a long term solution.  I like Cassell, but two first round picks is a tough sell.  Especially when you got #3 this year.  I don't mind Stafford but am not a fan of Sanchez.  I would like them to bring in a vet for a couple years and then prob draft a young QB next year when a much deeper class comes out.  Vets are given up on too early in too many cases, imo, such as Warner and Collins (not incredible #s but the guy just wins games).

There is no way the Patriots are going into next season with two of the top 5 highest paid quarterbacks in the league if Brady is healthy.

Yes, just slightly better.  Matt Cassel has a better O-Line, Recievers, and had the offensive strategy and system of Belichick.  I would hope his stats would show better.  Not to mention Thigpen didn't play in two games and only saw less than a quarter in 2 other games.  If he would have played those games he would be right up there with Cassel in terms of touchdowns and yardage.

I'm not so convinced that he is better at all.
