After walking the outfield and inspecting the conditions for more than an hour, umpires finally ruled the playing field at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium unsafe for play Saturday afternoon.
Oklahoma State and Kansas State were expecting to finish a three-game series, but the conclusion will have to wait until today at 1 p.m.
The teams were scheduled to finish Friday night’s suspended game before Saturday’s matinee but both were pushed back until today. The Cowboys trailed 3-2 w-th two outs in Kansas State’s half of the seventh inning before play was supended.
The conclusion of the second game will be played prior to the start of the third — and final — game of the series, which will begin approximately 30 minutes after the end of the suspended contest.
Should the doubleheader be rained out today, the 3-2 score in the second game will stand because six innings were already completed. The Cowboys would receive a loss and would fall further behind Texas Tech for the tenth spot in the Big 12 Tournament. Only ten teams make Big 12 postseason play and the Cowboys have never missed the tournament.
