If you decide to go PC, then wait until this summer/fall, when Windows 7 comes out.  Most folks using the beta seem to like it, and it's supposed to address Vista's issues.  I'd like to partition and install the beta on my laptop, but it's not going to happen as I'm nearly out of hard drive space.

From what I've heard, most netbooks running Vista are wayyyy slow, and preliminary indications are that Windows 7 will run much better.  I've been wanting to get a netbook myself, but not one that's running Vista.  My ultimate plan is to get a fairly cheap desktop to store/stream/transfer media files to TV/stereo/iPod and get a netbook for portable computing, writing, e-mail, internet, etc.  My current laptop is a "desktop" replacement.  It's not as powerful/big for storage as a cheaper desktop, and it's so large that it's really not that portable.  I think getting two separate machines is ultimately going to help me get more out of their functions.

If you want a photo-editing software for Windows, try GIMP.  It does a lot of what Photoshop does, and it's free.

Almost no netbooks run Vista..........XP or some distro of Linux

Not only is it possible, but it has been proven Microsoft has a better track record of fixing software exploits than Apple, and that OSX is easier to hack than Windows

Doh!  Slipped my mind for a minute.  MS even has special licenses for XP for netbooks.  Of course, IIRC, most netbooks run XP because Vista is so horrid on them.

Still, since it looks like Windows 7 is going to play nicer with netbooks, it still may be worth waiting to see if it's going to become the standard netbook OS.

They're horrid because XP is 9 years old and net books are essentially 9 year old hardware. Smartphones are to a point where they could run XP. Vista is an up-to-date OS that deserves up-to-date hardware.

Only idiots are unable to realize this.

    Weird post.

Netbooks have worse hardware because their focus is on small size and affordability.

And even Microsoft is all but admiting that Vista is no great shakes, even on the best hardware...although a lot of the PR problem had to do with puttimg it onto machines that didn't have good enough specs.  Again, though, that is a result of keeping things affordable.

It looks like Vista is poised to become the Windows ME to 7's XP role.

I know why netbooks have worse hardware. I wasn't arguing why. I was stating that it is idiocy to expect a brand new OS to function great on what is equivalent to 9 year old hard ware. We have 9 year old OS's for that. Just like idiots complained about XP running slowly on machines that shipped with 95, and idiots complained about 95 running slowly on machines that had 3.1.

As for Vista's issues, it's pretty much marketing and lousy driver support. It is Microsoft's best OS to date. Comparing it to ME is ignorance. ME was full of bugs and was the worst OS in terms of reliability. Vista is incredibly reliable compared to anything I've used extensively (OS X, 95-XP, Ubuntu).

Windows 7 should be a service pack because there will not be many upgrades to it over Vista. It will be a little lighter weight, but it will be the same thing essentially. Good luck running it on a netbook.

Easy there, Ballmer.  Nobody said they expected Vista to run well on netbooks, just that it doesn't.  As for running Windows 7 on a netbook, preliminary indications from the beta are that it will indeed run much better than Vista, perhaps even approaching XP in terms of functionality on a netbook.

And regardless of your personal affinity for Vista, it's not a stretch to compare Vista to ME from a public perception standpoint:  both had the public clamoring for the next gen of Windows pretty quickly after their release.

He is speaking of Apples marketing (can't control that) and no, you cannot control drivers

With your beloved MACs you are limited to the amount of hardware you can run in your computer, so it is easier to quality control drivers

You are talking about controlling a litter of kittens (MAC) vs controlling a giant ant farm (PC)

If you don't know anything about computers, please stop makings stupid comments.

In fact, thinking you can control driver support proves you have no clue.

Don't kid yourself, Piss...blatantly believing that there are no virus' out there for mac is ridiculous.  Believing MAC will never have a virus is an even worse idea.

Do you know what a Virus is or how they work?  It wouldn't be that hard to write something that replicates/deletes files or causes other issues once downloaded to a MAC.

don't kid yourself dr00d, i never said i believe any of those things.
i've been working on/with computers since my parents bought me a commodore 64, i think i have an idea how a virus works and how a good computer and OS works.

Great job looking like the clown.  You've been 'working on/with computers since c64' and this is your retort?  You know how a virus works, then you claim viruses can in fact be created/are out there for a mac, then you deny it with something similar that a 12 year old might say.

actually, had Microsoft shared specs related to their new and unneeded OS the app developers would have had drivers in place ahead of launch.  but, as usual, they did things the wrong way and it took application developers months to arrive at solutions that microsoft themselves had created.  I will say it's a bitch finding drivers for my imac

You could get Vista beta's more than a year before it come out, once again you strike out.

Also, are you trying to say MAC's don't need drivers??? (they do) or the fact that they are embedded (something I already explained for your small brain the post above)

2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009. That's 9. Granted, the number of days add up to around 8 years, but who really gives a frack?

My opinions of Vista are irrelevant. You're using public perception as an argument.  The public is full of retards who think their $30 Lexmark printer from 1997 should work with Vista. It doesn't, so Vista sucks and Microsoft is to blame. ME was full of new features that eventually spelled it's doom. It's the first os with system restore. While that feature is great in XP and Vista, it royally f'ed the crap out of Windows ME.

So when people compare the two, it's pretty stupid. If anything, compare it to Windows 2000. I can't wait for the day 32 bit OS's are dropped from the face of the earth and retards everywhere are flung back to the stoneage.
